Most people with disorders of sex development have a clear chromosomal sex, and a clear physical presentation at birth. The most common type of DSD actually isn’t evident at birth at all.

Trans people believe people with DSD’s are “hermaphrodites,” which is a slur that’s been used to justify things like mutilating babies. That’s where they stole the term “assigned at birth” from. This was how people with DSD’s described the forced SRS they underwent as infants without consent — they were assigned a sex, surgically. Trans people have stolen this and used it for pity points, as though a nurse simply observing the obvious is comparable to the violence done to people with DSD’s who have atypical genitalia.
