Due to their poor absorption, if too many sugar alcohols are ingested, they can lead to gas or diarrhea. A list of sugar alcohols including their classification numbers in Europe is:
Hydrogenated glucose syrup, hydrogenated starch hydrolysates and polyglycitol syrup (all the same thing) is a mixtures of sugar alcohols. Lycasin is a trade name for hydrogenated glucose syrup. I would also recommend that you generally stay away from anything that contains malt and products derived from malt, such as barley malt extract. Some fruits and vegetables also contain high amounts sorbitol and/or maltitol. An internet search will tell you. See also:

Due to very poor consumer reviews and negative media attention in 2014, Haribo discontinued sugar free gummy bears. The gummy bears contained maltitol, a sugar alcohol that is not fully digestible and that ferments in the gut. It can cause increased flatulence, loose stools, and diarrhea.

Delving into the Adverse Effects of an Instant Noodle-Only Diet: A Comprehensive Analysis of a Case Study Introduction The human body is a complex and delicate system that relies on a balanced intake of nutrients to function optimally. When this delicate balance is disrupted, a cascade of adverse effects can ensue, potentially leading to severe health complications. This discussion delves into a case study involving an individual who consumed solely instant noodles for an extended period of six months, highlighting the detrimental impact of such a restrictive diet on various organs and overall well-being. Exploring the Nutritional Deficiencies Instant noodles, often marketed as a quick and convenient meal option, are typically devoid of essential nutrients crucial for maintaining good health. Subsisting on a diet consisting solely of instant noodles for an extended period can result in severe nutritional deficiencies. These deficiencies can manifest in various ways, affecting multiple organs and systems. Gastrointestinal Distress: A Common Consequence The lack of dietary fiber in instant noodles can disrupt the digestive process, leading to constipation and other gastrointestinal issues. Additionally, the high sodium content can exacerbate these problems, further irritating the gastrointestinal tract and potentially contributing to the development of more severe conditions. Compromised Immune Function: A Weakened Defense System A diet lacking in essential vitamins and minerals can severely compromise the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections and diseases. The absence of antioxidants in instant noodles further exacerbates this vulnerability, leaving the body poorly equipped to combat oxidative stress and free radical damage. Metabolic Disturbances: Disrupting the Body's Energy Balance The high carbohydrate content of instant noodles, coupled with the lack of protein and healthy fats, can wreak havoc on the body's metabolism. This imbalance can result in weight gain, insulin resistance, and an increased risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Hepatic Damage: A Silent Threat to Liver Health The liver, responsible for metabolizing and detoxifying various substances, can suffer significant damage when subjected to a diet devoid of essential nutrients. The high fat and sodium content in instant noodles can contribute to the accumulation of fat in the liver, leading to inflammation and potentially irreversible scarring. Cardiovascular Risks: A Ticking Time Bomb for Heart Health The excessive sodium intake associated with an instant noodle-only diet can elevate blood pressure, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the high saturated fat content can contribute to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, further increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Neurological Implications: Affecting Brain Function and Mental Well-being The brain, the control center of the nervous system, relies on a steady supply of nutrients to function optimally. Deficiencies in B vitamins, essential fatty acids, and other nutrients can impair cognitive function, mood regulation, and overall mental well-being. Case Study: A Cautionary Tale The case study presented in the article serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact that a restrictive diet can have on human health. The individual's consumption of instant noodles as the sole source of sustenance for six months resulted in severe nutritional deficiencies, leading to a myriad of health complications. These included gastrointestinal distress, compromised immune function, metabolic disturbances, hepatic damage, cardiovascular risks, and neurological implications. Conclusion: Embracing a Balanced and Nutritious Diet The human body is a complex and intricate system that thrives on a diverse and balanced diet. Restricting oneself to a single food item, such as instant noodles, for an extended period can have catastrophic consequences, as evidenced by the case study discussed. A healthy diet should encompass a variety of nutrient-rich foods from all food groups, ensuring that the body receives the essential nutrients it needs to function optimally.
