What is retro
/s/retrogaming is for vintage gaming.
What is allowed
For consoles we consider anything that is 6th generation and prior to be vintage.
For handhelds we consider Game Boy Advance and its contemporaries to be vintage, and everything before.
For computers we consider approximately everything before 2000 to be vintage, but there are exceptions to that rule based on style. We look at how much 3D acceleration a game needs in order to run. Just ask yourself, "Could this be reasonably ported to PlayStation?" If the answer is yes, then it's probably okay. If no, then it's probably not retro enough.
Homebrews are welcome. New hardware that plays vintage games is perfectly fine.
What is not allowed
No 7th gen and later console posts. No advanced 2000s PC games with graphical abilities too advanced for PSX or N64 to handle. No modern indie games done in a retro style.
Note: Discussion is allowed on these topics.
Exceptions to the "not retro" rule
On occasion a retro game will be re-released for a new platform or receive a sequel after many years of the franchise being dormant. We allow posts about this sort of news.
Homebrews for retro consoles is specifically permitted. That also includes new computer games developed for older operating systems, like DOS.
Indie games are allowed as well as long as they're conform to the two above exceptions.
