They must have eaten all the smart ones first.

I suppose you are joking but may I point out that three of the best writers in English during the 20th century were Irish. In poetry we have W.B. Yeats who wrote The Second Coming (considered the best poem of that century by many) and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923. James Joyce hardly needs an introduction and Brian O'Nolan, writing under the pseudonym Flann O'Brien, is not so well known but try The Third Policeman and see what you think. There are others of course. Irish are also fun to have a drink with.

Oh definitely. I'm American, my mom was born and raised in Wexford and oddly enough, I was born right outside of London, but moved to the states when I was 6. Big fan of Yeats and Joyce, as every Irish person should be, not so much O'Brien (thanks for the recommendation) and The Second Coming is one of my favorites (hell, everyone steals lines from it, lol). Yeasts was part English as well and I believe was instrumental in keeping the Irish language alive, no? Even though he didn't speak it.

I hope you'll like The Third Policeman. I'm not sure why O'Brien is not more well known but those I know who have read him always remember.
