Note:

--exclude={blah,blah}

This is a Bash extension on the POSIX shell. It might work on other shells, or it might not. If you don't know which shell you use (why not?) just write multiple --exclude=blah arguments.

Confess I didn't see the video but I really don't need to...I've used rsync for backups for years and it works great.
