I think it is, but life isn't just about sex, after all. You'll still be stuck with someone who despises that they settled for you, the bedroom will die, and eventually you get your divorce when they find someone better.

Basically it's following the rules of society, and paying with several years of your life instead of $200 for a hooker. Both seem unappealing, but at least the hooker route involves less prolonged daily misery.
