Personally this results in a catch-22 when it comes to anime: if the show is unrealistic and has a cute girl (or girls) fawning over some self-insert, short, weak, loser MC, then I get annoyed at a) the thought that I'm overlooking or outright buying into a lie, if I watch the show b) knowing that it is the result of an active decision on the part of the creators to offer this take comfort because it will sell better to pathetic people like me.

On the other hand, if it's realistic, either in crushing or demonizing the desires of weak male characters, or just outright removing them from existence (only attractive male characters), then I still feel terrible watching it.

The only solution so far seems to be not watching anime as much. Though to be honest, normies took anime long ago, and it appeals to me much less. You'll get shit on for mentioning enjoying it by people that tell you they cosplay, or love whatever seasonal thing is popular and sexual.
