I really wish the US hadn't invaded Iran in 1953. They were actually pretty progressive until 1979, then the revolution was super religious in reaction to the forced western liberalism, and it became this ridiculously controlling hyper-religious society when a few decades prior it was one of the most modernized places in the world.

I feel bad for all the progressive/scientific Iranians who are being dragged backward in to religious nonsense, simply out a state-wide over-reaction to modernization.
