sure, but we are taking away the utility of their puppets by treating them as mentally ill.

You are playing into their hands. The puppets are decoys. They don't have any credibility to destroy. They are an ablation shield. We need to identify the institutions that push the lies and take away their credibility. We need to use the trans lie to take away their ability to command any respect for anything else. We need to take away their claim of authority.

In the eye's of the public the mentally ill are just victims. You can't hold them accountable for anything. Simply criticizing them in any way makes you and evil attacker and they automatically side with them no matter what. You have to avoid that trap.

Always make the conversation about the lies of the institutions and never about the mental illness.
