Only a small percent are and sadly those are the ones we all talk about and remember. I've been to almost every major city on the east coast and spend many winters in Florida near Delray Beach. I never had an issue any more serious then I did in Toronto, Canada. I was very surprised how friendly people in NYC were. We were clearly tourist and people were great giving us advice on how to get around and good places to eat and visit. No one was rude.

99% of Americans and I would say most people around the world are decent just trying to live their lives.

Perhaps. If we judge people solely from our interactions on the Internet, we're going to think everybody is an asshole.

Everyone is an asshole; it's just that for some people it takes years to show their true face.

I'm like Trump: An honest asshole. It's the dishonest and phony ones you gotta watch out for.

You aren't honest with yourself. If you were you would act different.

I don't think Trump knows the word honest. The US should just ban old people (anyone over 55 when elected) from Congress and the White House. The GDP would skyrocket.

You just haven't met the right people, then.

That's like saying I haven't been touched by God yet. It's an assertion.

My experience in NYC is that people are friendly when you interact with them, but otherwise keep to themselves and rarely make eye contact. Upstate New Yorkers were super friendly.

They are friendly to tourists, because they see a walking wallet.

Yeah, I did the tourist stuff on the honeymoon but we've been back several times and we tend to stick to were the locals go. No more Times Square for us!

Last time we were there we hung out in Hell's Kitchen, in particular there was a bar called The Blue Ruin. Not sure if it survived COVID or not but back then they had a happy hour with draft beer or a rum and coke for $1.50! Place was packed with locals on there way home. They would stop in for a couple of drinks and we would chat them up. It was an awesome time! Lots of cool and crazy stories. Everyone having a great time!

I feel bad for the city with the recent influx of immigrants. I don't think I would feel safe there anymore.

English people always remark on how friendly and helpful Americans are.

They are taught to value their own boundaries more than they really should.

They're angry because they spent all their healthcare money on being everyone else's military.

The government does not represent us anymore, not the people, but corporations that use lobbyists to give bribe money to vote for laws in their favor.

George Washington is rolling in his grave that the USA is a Corporate Tyranny.

It would be more appropriate to discuss one particular Russian when discussing bad people.

Mcheetah 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 11 days ago

"Bad" is relative to the observer. If you ask me, I'd say 99% of people in this world are selfish and objectively worthless to the species and contribute literally nothing of value to humanity. But that's because I'm cynical and jaded. If you asked most people, they'd probably say something like "Most people are just trying to live their lives and make their way home" or some Joan Osborne rhetoric. As long as you're not trying to rape anyone or diddle kids, I won't consider someone to be a "bad person," but I still do think most people are too self-absorbed to be anything you'd call "good." You've probably spent too much time on social media, regardless if you're not an American or actually are.

Also, as a American-born citizen, I guarantee you my ass grew up broker than you. Unless you too went dumpster diving behind fast food restaurants and had to eat processed, bullshit Dollar Tree "food" for large chunks of your life.

What is an American? Given the diversity of the population, you will need to be specific, we practically have 50 different states with 50 different backgrounds minimum.

Its the liberals, we aren't all that bad
