U.S. pundits are literally starting to say it out loud: for "good" to triumph, we must be evil. "Good" of course being the preservation of the Rules-Based Order, aka U.S. hegemony. That's literally the argument here: "the only way to protect a world fit for freedom is to engage in impure acts."
