The tech for renewable energy is actually woefully inadequate. Nuclear is the greenest stopgap we have at the moment as far as the grid is concerned because of it's high yield to investment ratio, but electric cars are mobile so need lithium batteries and there's nowhere near enough to meet demand at a 5-year life cycle, and the methods of extracting the needed materials to make lithium batteries is far from green.

If we don't correct course we'll be in trouble eventually, that is certain, but who knows when or what system will break down first. They have enough trouble telling us what the weather on the weekend will be like. I'd wager it's already too late to avoid some major calamity or other though, like the ocean conveyor suddenly shutting down or something, which will do the job of brining down our carbon footprint by killing most of us.
