My only hope is not for salvation, but for a comfortable headset to hide in. Haptic feedback that feels close enough to real that I can occasionally forget about the burnt world outside. Virtual Reality isn't a solution. It's a life raft for the last sane people to drift off in while the ship sinks behind us. We'll tell out kids not to look at the flames, hand them a headset, and hope they won't be too angry at us for not fighting for their future.
