That may be because it's a basic NATO tenet that if one member is engaged, then all members are engaged.

The main reason that Article 15 has not been triggered
every time a NATO member (typically the USA)
does something on its own (attacks someone),
is that it typically attacks weak countries that cannot hit back.

Here, however, if/when a NATO member (France or Britain as you suggest)
does something on its own (attacks Russia),
there may be a response/escalation.

This would then trigger Article 15, ... i.e. WWIII.

Britain and France would not attack Russia. Their navies would keep the Russian navy from blocking Ukraine's exports from the Black Sea. Their air forces would provide air cover for Ukraine. Their armies would be the reserve, freeing Ukrainian troops to go to the front and blocking any Russian breakthroughs.
