I really hope the whole gold thing doesn't get implemented here. I'd much rather they just stick up a donation link or something.

Gold was honestly so cringey. Like "let me pay money to this free site for an incredibly boring and repetitive comment/post".

I would love to know how much of the gold and awards are used to pay for advertising, astroturfing, and marketing. It wouldn't be difficult to use Reddit Gold as a currency to hype posts and ads and orchestrate marketing campaigns through a bot network. Just like many bots are put through a period of karma farming to get their social credit high enough to be impactful.

Part of the thing is that reddit mods (or maybe just admins) could award posts without paying for it, artificially inflating the perceived value of posts, which were usually leftist.
