Looks like the second killer took some kind of poison (judging by the frothing on his lips) and when the pain became too agonizing, he shot himself.

Why take poison instead of just shooting yourself? Seems a little unpleasant.

I'm guessing he thought it'd be the less painful/more dignified option (obviously, it was not). Once he realized it wasn't, he went for the gun right away.

Psychologically, it's much easier to bite down on a cyanide capsule than to pull the trigger.
