I have no problem wpd by suicide if it's from afar. But I try to avoid close-ups of people actually killing themselves. Seeing a person alive one sec then dead the next unsettles me. I understand why the Idea of suicide is tempting, it helps on bad nights as Nietzsche said. But to willingly stop "being" by destroying a perfectly healthy body, I cannot understand. Such a waste. Putting a face on the person increases my aversion by focusing it on them so... yeah mixed feelings. I probably don't feel safe if looking directly at the face of Death.

It's a good exemple of cognitive dissonance (fancy term for: self-bullshiting) ex.people loving meat but being incapable of picturing how it was actually manufactured from a real animal. But I'm digging into it...

I think about suicide a lot and I'm sure I will one day get to it instead of dying a natural death. Being suicidal is so normal for me it actually shocked me that some people don't want to off themselves.

My co-worker talked about some celebrity suicide and said she just didn't understand why you'd do that. Your comment reminded me of that.

It's probably as weird for her (and you?) to want that as it is for me to not want that.

I actually had to take a step back to "realise": wow, not everybody is suicidal ...?! Seems so obvious and dumb but I never thought about it much before.

And while I don't think every suicide is necessarily connected to mental health problems: a healthy body doesn't mean that much to mental illness and suicidal thoughts. It's so weird for me to see you connect these things, I would've never thought of that from my point of view. Definitely interesting to read though!

People who never experienced it have no clue about what depression is like. This woman was already dead inside.
