Okay, I will do that, but it's going to be a couple weeks at least.

I'm game to spam hunt if you like, but full disclosure; I won't be anywhere as consistent as the mighty u/Vulptex.

Noted! Any help is appreciated, doesn't have to be daily.

Happy to help!

Oh, and could you like Mow my lawn? In advance. Thanks!

LarrySwinger2[S] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun 8 months ago

We are collectively mowing the lawn that is Saidit.

Vulptex 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Something also needs to be done about the bans. The 500 errors have been getting worse. u/d3rr said it will only continue to get worse as more accounts are banned. He said he made it the wrong kind of table or something. You said you feel git is too unsafe though, so I'm not sure if I could be of any help since I don't know you in person. Do you happen to know anyone who might be able to?

mut 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Perhaps unban 100 of the oldest usernames and then delete (?) those accounts, or increase the table size. But get help with this beforehand. An alternative might be here.

Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

No, we are not deleting accounts.

My idea is to use the bans reddit has (or at least what they had before going closed-source). They exist on saidit, but currently it's impossible to use them because there's no frontend (nor API).

neolib 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Do you mean the whole ban db table for all users, where records are like "user X is banned by user Y"? Or bans from subs?

Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

This is only the global ban table u/d3rr set up, and according to him improperly. Sub bans come from reddit and function normally.

The solution is to use suspensions, which already exist on saidit at the backend, but there's no way to use them right now.

neolib 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Ah, I only now realized that the blocking system is the new saidit feature, and doesn't exist on reddit. How big is the ban table now - hundreds of thousands of records? I mean it doesn't make sense to clear a hundred or two of old blocks for me? (430 spammers are blocked currently)

passionflounder 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Good... I'll recommence reporting Spam instead of just blocking the spammer.

This is how they ruin Reddit.

New people come.

Add mods.

New mods censor.

jet199 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Just have long term users do it then.

magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Yes I will be looking for long-term users with a good track record of high-quality comments and posts regularly over a long span of time. If anyone is interested in helping to remove spam from saidit, PM me.

[deleted] 2 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 5 fun 8 months ago

Damn. My comments are traditionally low quality. I'm out 😞

iamonlyoneman 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun 8 months ago

I got high quality comments but I'm lazy af for moderation work

[deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun 8 months ago

I shit post and shit comment. But the quality posts and comments do add to the website.

[deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Ive been here for years now. But I won’t mod. It’s work.

cunninglingus 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

But m7 also removes mods that users complain about - or rather he did long ago. Many long-term mods no longer visit Saidit.

magnora7 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Mods who abuse saidit mod rules will definitely still be removed. A well-known user was removed from his mod positions just a few months ago because he refused to reduce the number of subs he moderated to below 40 after dozens of polite requests.

cunninglingus 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Yes - he has only himself to blame, given his experience & many warnings - and I think Saidit was a major part of his life for 4 years while online. He's been in the chat, and I think he'll likely return to his original account in due course. There are some unhinged users who will ask you if they can mod the major subs. If at any point you'd like more info, please feel free to ask me and others, or make an 'asksaidit' post, where users can potentially recommend the relatively sane (tolerant), active users, or warn you of potential problems.

neolib 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Regularly check /s/[sub]/modlog for subs you feel can be censored - unlike reddit here modlogs are public.

MagicMike 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

I haven’t had any problem with this site whatsoever. It’s a good place for NOT having some power crazed Troon ban an idea.

LarrySwinger2[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

Content admins agree to only remove site breaking content such as spam. Don't worry, this isn't Reddit.

Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 8 months ago

There has been at least 2 troons so far, and that hasn't happened.
