There was a segment today about social contagion and moral panic dealing with the McMartin/Satanic abuse case of the 1980s (which I remember). They went into how children were maneuvered into saying all sorts of crazy shit by psychologists who fed them leading questions. They talked about how it spread across the country despite there being little evidence to support any of it and how morally outraged people became. They talked about the costs of the trials and how people's lives were ruined.
I found myself thinking, "Oh, if you could only see yourself and your role in promoting the tracking of potentially LGB kids into gender transition. If only you could see the moral panic you're wrapped up in that demonizes anyone who questions gender ideology."
