Alternative.to is a godsend for me for when I'm looking for things! Didn't know of Owncloud though, what makes it different to DropBox?
Nextcloud is way more developed than owncloud.
tildes is run by a former reddit admin -- I'd avoid it.
Remember imzy though? LOL.
Damn, my only regret was forgetting to check in earlier today, good to see all these alternatives
EDIT: Might want to add FireAlpaca for Photoshop alternatives, it also works wonderfully

I've also heard of affinity photo. Haven't really dove into any of the alternatives yet to see which suits me better
Steam: gog, piracy

If you want an alternative to Chrome but still have the ability to use Chrome extensions, use Opera.
Also Vivaldi
Been using it for months. Their tab stacking is awesome.

My focus besides just having another option, is censorship-resistance. These are still third parties, and their website could be taken down etc. But they seem to respect privacy and deserve trust:
d.tube - runs on top of steemit blockchain, content served over IPFS, storage paid for by part of steem rewards from upvotes
BitChute - Uses webtorrent to serve video content
Protonmail - serious about privacy, integrated PGP is nice
Fastmail - serious about privacy, very flexible options if you own your own domain name
Keybase - not just secure chat, but file sharing, group chat, and lots more. Great user experience with PGP under the hood.
Censorship Resistance is especially needed for YouTube alternatives. We see what happens when such sites care more about advertisers than their content creators...
Almost forgot:
Internet: Real life :-)
Folk usually go to Movie review sites, channels in YouTube and such. For me, I go to www.TasteDive.com. put your movie in, folks give a yay or nay and also recommend similar movies through choice, not an algorithm. The sites been instrumental in me finding new horror movies similar to my tastes, also works for music too, and various other things.
Edited for link.
Wikipedia: wikispooks -Only 20,000 articles rather than howevermany millions, but as long as you're sceptical about corporate media, you're welcome to say you're piece
If you like the gun community on youtube (Forgotten Weapons, InrangeTV, Hickock, MAC, etc.) check out Full30. The censorship from YT has led them to start mirroring everything to this site. It has been running for a few years and is established. They are prepared for the day that YT goes too far and starts cutting out anything with firearms.
For Android I use YouTube vanced instead of normal YouTube. Vlc also has a nice music player. Just the basics though.
Oh damn VLC is sexy as fuck. Added benefit - I'm able to watch Reddit's stupid video format on my phone (Seriously, how do you fuck up so hard on a video format? You can't properly link it, it won't even play on Android normally, and even on the computer it sometimes likes to break in browsers. It's actually fascinating how they fucked up something so simple and yet still managed to get it widely used when every other place got it right)
I can vouch for YouTube Vanced, its built-in adblock and background playing feature are awesome!
