What's the real reason students are rioting on American University campuses? I don't really think it's Israel.

This is faulty logic. Self destructing your nation state to maintain your identity is short sighted. South Africa renounced it's apartheid policies and reorganized under a new government and it survived. Israel has clearly failed to maintain it's global political legitimacy just as South Africa did by not treating it's citizens as equal under the law. If apartheid Israel continues to embrace ethnic cleansing and genocide they will lose enough international trade to cause an economic drain that will force the potbellied occupiers to evacuate to prosperous nations. Israel won't be the first or last petty power that has destroyed itself to cling to identity as a colonial master.

Why focus on Israel?

It's been continually committing crimes against humanity since at least 1948. A few decent people reject crimes against humanity as non-negotiable and will not participate monetarily, politically or socially.

They were only responding to a mass slaughter of their own citizens

The Palestinians would agree with this statement. They have been agreeing to this statement for almost hundred years now. Yet they are not allowed the same respect as their murders due to their identity.

and are just trying to stabilize the situation, so it won't happen again.

Israel has been excusing genocide and ethnic cleansing through this tactic for longer than it has existed. Perhaps next time if they wanted to protect their people they would have not held a large music festival next to their apartheid fence with no one guarding them. We have a word for this: bait. Hamas took that bait and Israel got blanket global permission to openly engage in ethnic cleansing and genocide. Everyone in the political picture got what they wanted.

The Muslims are always trying to destroy the state of Israel, because they won't tolerate a non-Muslim nation in their midst.

That is a poor argument. It is literally not accurate.

It's atypical for a modern nation state to openly engage in all out ethnic cleansing and genocide. It is nonsense to state that nation states need to engage in these activities to maintain their existence. The historical record is pretty clear that nation states that engage in repeated internal ethnic cleansing and genocide typically do not last as they hollow themselves out in the process. However their always exceptions to that rule since that historical record is quite long and varied.

So, what exactly is the issue, or are the issues, here?

The issue is that these universities collaborate with the state of Israel. The students don't want them to take money from Israel or advance or support the nation of Israel in any capacity on their dollar. The universities don't want to change. It ain't that complicated.

Why didn't VR get more popular?
unagisongs 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 7 days ago

Consumer VR is still in the novelty, experimental and enthusiast stage. The total cost is still too high. Computer hardware requirements are still significant. Headsets are still too heavy and cumbersome. The sweet spot between price to quality has yet to be met. VR motion sickness turns people off. User fatigue has a real impact. No killer app to bring in the masses. Sim gamers are probably the only crowd I see consistently using VR hardware and even then I hear the same complaints.

Apple's VisionPro headset clearly missed the mark which did not trigger price drops from the other VR competitors or panic to catch up. Valve collaborated with Apple on the prototype stage for the VisionPro. Based on Valve's success with the steam deck I suspect the Index two will be a marriage between the steam deck and the original Index. Valve's hardware launches tend to hint at future releases. This may be the killer hardware combination the finally gets VR over the hump.

Currently the only headset hardware sized correctly in my opinion is the Bigscreen Beyond. However it's greatest strength is also it's greatest weakness. Custom goggle that fit your face and your eyes means the single enthusiast gets the full experience while the lay person doesn't get jazzed enough to buy their own. It decreases adoption by masses slowing down future development of goggle style VR.

A steam deck that can run VR googles about the size of Bigscreen Beyond at a consistent reasonable FPS and a high enough refresh rate and that are portal, affordable and sold on mass. Which is why I'm looking at the Valve Index Two to possibly break that mold. However this is Valve time we're talking about so maybe they get around to replacing the Index when it stops selling in a decade or two.

How Biden Can Win on the Economy: Stop Mass Layoffs (I don't think that Biden can win this way because he's too corrupt, but it's an interesting thought exercise)

The French government genuinely face getting overthrown by the citizens if they do not secure their cheap uranium to fuel their nuclear reactors. This is why France suddenly went on a real war footing against Russia when all the rebellious sub-Saharan African countries invited in Russian mercenaries to ensure the French don't try to "liberate" their country. The US is in sub-saharan Africa to prevent Europe from imploding from their ever increasing energy prices.

Biden has repeatedly shown extreme contempt for the American people. The oligarchy must have strong confidence they can neuter Trump before election day. Either way the small window the American people had to take back the country got slammed shut. Now we wait for the fallout for our failure to reign in the geocidal sociopaths running the country.

Before I go in on Google, I would like to mention that I have always been an advocate of Google before this.

Google has no obligation to feed anyone traffic. A responsible business owner cannot rely on a single revenue stream if they intend to keep the business upright. From their own account the dodo had time and money to broaden their revenue streams instead they hired too many people without a business plan to stay solvent in case Google dropped them. Once they easy money dried up they should have started firing people when they still had a small window to save the business. Adapt or die. They chose death.

Russia isn't invading or conquering Ukraine. Russia is devouring and absorbing Ukraine.
unagisongs 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun 1 month ago

Russia has settled down to the process of systematically absorbing all the best parts of Ukraine, and, they may get around to the rest of the country, as well.

This is foolish western hubris believing occupying is country is feasible or rational. The west's intelligence organizations would love to fund an insurgency to make Russia miserable. Russians are a lot more caution after the Afghanistan debacle. Occupying the totality of Ukraine is fundamentally a trap.

Sure, Russian soldiers are dying in Ukraine. But, so are a lot of Ukrainians,

More importantly Russia is disarming Europe. It's hard to have any kind of occupying force to try and invade Russia with nothing left in the tank. Nor will Europe have bodies willing to try invading. Any European solider with a functioning brain does not wants to be sent to invade Russia. The Ukrainians that are willing to invade Russia are getting eradicated. The same people that would be joining an insurgency if Russia was to occupy the entire country or voting against Russia in the future are losing more their lives, but their total political opposition to Russian interests.

What NATO still doesn't quite get, is that all they're doing by "helping" Ukraine, is hurting the Ukrainian people, and hurting themselves, and their own economies.

The current goal of NATO is to strip Ukraine for parts and literally sell it off to Black Rock and it's subsidiaries. Every war is a resource war. There is no "helping". War is about people "helping themselves" to other people's wealth and resources. Especially weak countries like Ukraine are too fragile to stop the US from forming a shadow government and forcing them into a war with the Russians. Ukraine won't be a state by the time the war is over. It will have collapsed into stateless buffer zone between Russia and rest of Europe. West Ukraine with no formal government structure benefits the Russia security state by letting them have carte blanche to shape West Ukraine as they see fit without occupying the area directly. I expect West Ukraine will be heavily dependent on Russian humanitarian aid once the West slips out the back door.

NATO is trying to teach Russia a lesson,

NATO is fighting Russia due to their interference with the US coup in Syria. This prevented the Saudi/UAE pipeline from running oil and gas pipe lines through the middle east to the balkens to directly compete with Russian oil and gas production. Effectively putting Russia in the dog house by by having the Saudis and UAE temporarily drive European oil and gas prices into the ground. This benefits the Saudis and the UAE by putting a global competitor in the oil business under their thumb. Europe benefits by ensuring an abundant oil and gas supply from cheap suppliers whether the Saudis or the new balkanized Russia they had intended to create. Naturally the Russians did not want to stay Europe's whipping boy and decided to protect their interests. However many Russian oligarchs that would very much like to see Putin put down so they may rise again as petty lords. They paid US politicians handsomely to do their bidding and pursue a regime change war through the Ukrainian puppetry. This has lead to some Russians learning how fly the hard way. All that pain and suffering for what? A little bit more money and power.
