As a name it more commonly means fair-haired/blonde , from the Irish Finn/Fionn. It's funny actually, easy to pronounce in English male Irish names are common tif names, eg Finn, Aidan, Rory.

They didn't really apologise, just said they should have educated the 90 year old better.

There are no old women suddenly becoming men.

While 'old' is relative I know of three women in their 30s/40s, all mothers, who are calling themselves men now. They are all friends of friends, two started the NB to transmasc to 'man' train around the time their youngest went to school, the third decided she was a man shortly after becoming a mother. One of the first two is married to a woman, the other two are married to men. At least one of them has a 'transkid.' The first two have always struck me as quite narcissistic. I don't really know the third woman but I wonder if she's having some sort of post partum psychosis, either way I feel extremely sorry for her baby and husband.

It's probably the smallest demographic of the transing population, but for a certain type of narc woman who likes to control those around her, transing is a powerful weapon to wield.

Do you have a link to what started this? I tried going back on Pluckrose' twitter but I lost the will when I'd been scrolling down for ages and hadn't even reached the day before yesterday.

Rad fems aren't into body positivity are they? That's more of a lib fem stance. All of the people I know who insist how much they deeply love their fat curves and berate others for even mentioning losing a bit of weight/staying fit are all TRAs too.

Jesus. I tested as having 155 when I was a teenager and was invited for more involved testing because 155 was the highest result possible on the test I did. But I couldn't travel to the city where the testing was. For some reason I had it in my head that 155 was the top cenitle.

I really feel massively fucking unaccomplished now.

Wanderingthehalls 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 3 months ago

How are you defining high IQ? As in firmly above average or actually high IQ as in 155+, ie the top centile? Because I'm in a couple of those facebooks and yes, most of the women there are well educated with professional careers or who could have had professional careers if they hadn't prioritised fulltime motherhood. But, realistically, it would be unlikely that much more than two in a hundred would actually have a high IQ (higher odds than 1% due to the fact that few, if any, members would have a below average IQ). Yes, the Dunning-Kruger effect is very clearly on display with relatively intelligent people parroting the most stupid shit like, but Michael Phelps has big hands!!!!, immediately blaming JKR when news broke of B Ghey's murder and lots and lots of anti-science body positivity nonsense. Lots and lots of what Stella O'Malley calls toxic empathy. She describes it as a huge issue for teens but I see it as an incredibly huge problem for swathes of Millenial and even late-gen X mothers.

I don't see much evidence of critical thinking in these groups. Now a huge part of that, is because it's pretty obvious that if you question the group think, you get fucked out. So I suspect/hope that there are at least some other women in these groups who are still in them in order to observe.

The round up, round down thing is, at a stretch, technically kind of correct. However, it's also an example of the phenomenon of oversimplification. A process where something is simplified to the point of being incorrect. These people are basically showing that they have oversimplified their brains.

It's so weird that they post these utterly obvious pictures of people that are the absolute 'best' looking results of transition but are still painfully, obviously not the sex they are trying to be. And that's in a still photo, angled, lit and probably filtered for maximum effectiveness. Our brains are wired to recognise things that aren't right. There is a person who works in a shop I go to regularly who is either a transman or a very unfortunate man. They are about 5'7"/5'8" so not freakishly tall for a woman or small for a man. And a bit overweight and always wearing a baggy fleece so their body shape isn't super obvious. They have short hair gelled forward in a way that men sometimes do to cover up a receding hair line and straggly facial hair/crappy short beard. And yet, even before I heard this person speak or saw them walk, my brain clocked weirdness the instant I looked at 'him.' It honestly felt like the scenery shifted or my eyes couldn't quite settle on what I was seeing. Then 'he' spoke and, while a lot of transmen I've heard on tv/online have a voice that's either like a pubescent boy with a newly cracking voice or a very camp effeminate gay man, this person's voice is more feminine than that. Not like a woman's natural voice but nothing even close to male. A few days ago I saw this person walking to work and my eyes were immediately drawn to them even in the distance, before I recognised who it was, as their stride didn't match their male-ish appearance.

We evolved to notice and pay attention to incongruence because it's a signifier of possible threat. And I wonder what type of reaction this person provokes in people who aren't terminally online and don't have the knowledge to conclude that they are interacting with a young woman who's had a mastectomy (because I've clocked women wearing binders and that's not what this looks like) and taking testosterone. Because even knowing what this person most probably is, I instinctually feel weirded out by them and have a strong desire to finish our interaction and move away. Logically I feel a mixture of pity for the messed up girl who has destroyed her body and probably has a lowered their life expectancy and long term quality of life. And a wariness of somehow provoking an irrational outburst. And also some guilt in case I'm wrong and I'm having a massive internal negative reaction to a young man with some sort of DSD. Though statistically, I know it's much more likely to be a transman.

Yeah, I've been figuring for a while that one of the big tipping points with this shit will be when enough people realise that being detrans makes them much more special than being trans. I have huge sympathy for kids who were allowed/encouraged to destroy their bodies and are now filled with anger and regret. But the grifters who jumped on being trans for social status will jump on being detrans just as enthusiastically once that's where they think the new status is. They might even get money from it if they sue.

Knee surgery, especially replacement, requires following a strict exercise programme almost immediately after hospital discharge and for at least a year afterwards. If someone doesn't commit to that, the knee will heal badly. That's what causes more problems than the person initially had. Lots of people don't commit to that as it's hard work, that's very painful to begin with.

I fucking despair for humanity. I didn't think so many people were so very, very stupid while thinking they are so clever that they are happy to actively promote their stupidity online. This morning I saw a twitter post from someone who walked past the school in Dublin where a week ago three children and a care worker were stabbed, and he complained that there were a pair of drunks/drug addicts sitting on the entrance steps that the children had to walk around. Straight away some fucking white knight jumped up to berate him for his prejudices against the poor victims of addiction. The original poster was clearly making a point about the lack of care being shown by the gardai to the children and staff of a school that had just gone through a very real trauma. The state should be doing everything they can to help those kids feel safe but they are being ignored. And this stupid shit jumps up to call the person pointing this out a bigot.

It was definitely the trans shit for me. I used to believe that people were genuinely trans. I very, very much assumed that huge amounts of caution were exercised when children claimed to be the opposite sex. And I thought it was so obvious that transwomen couldn't be in women's sports or prisons and third spaces of some kind would be made. When people started bullshitting that no transwomen really were physically just like women I couldn't get my head around how stupid it was. Then non-binary started and that's just fucking beyond parody stupid. Then I looked into it and saw that they not only rushed children to transition, but actively promote it to kids. It made me question just about every single thing I thought I knew.

That said, I'm currently reeling again at all the utter dumbfuck morons online claiming that the released Israeli hostages had a great old time with their sweet, huggable Hamas captors. I didn't think that people could honestly be that fucking stupid. Even if you politically side with the Palestinians, how the actual fuck can you look at pictures and video of terrified people doing what they are told in the hopes of surviving and having their still captive loved ones survive, and claim it's genuine love and respect for their captors.

Transphobia is the start of the left to rightwing pipeline.

This is in Belfast, so it's not the Irish government. Belfast is in Northern Ireland, so it's the UK. Funny thing is, not that long ago, graffiti saying Irish Lives Matter, in NI would have referred to the de facto civil war that went on there through "The Troubles." If anyone is arrested for painting it, they should claim it's just a statement about an oppressed indigenous people under a colonialist power

I think it's a social 'be kind' thing. Women show up as better at determining the sex of a person from a range of traits, even just gait seen through points of light. Men and women are both very, very good at determining anyone's sex (no-one passes in real life) but women have the edge on it.

What's actually happening? How is this happening? How does this end? What comes next? It's not my area of expertise but I have studied Europe in the 1930s and the evidence of a descent into degeneracy in certain quarters that played a part in the rise of fascism and the horrors that came with that. I'm genuinely becoming very scared of where we have found ourselves and what will come as a result when the backlash comes full force. Both because I'm scared of an over-reaction and also scared because part of me welcomes it, because what's happening now has to fucking stop.

The fuckers already are. Varadker has just said he wants to rush in very unpopular incitement to hate laws. But if he does, this will be just the start. People really hate the proposed legislation. It's almost certainly unconstitutional and Elon Musk has outright told the Irish government that he will do everything he can to stop them.

For context. Yesterday afternoon a man attacked a group of 5&6 year old children leaving their school. Stabbing 3 of them and a woman, reported to be a creche worker, who tried to stop him. The woman and one little girl were very seriously injured. A passing food delivery driver (who is Brazilian) jumped off his bike and hit the attacker with his motorcycle helmet. Other passersby also intervened and pretty much beat the shit out of the attacker who also had to be hospitalised.

People started to gather and word went out that the attacker is an Algerian immigrant. And this attack was jihadist. This hasn't been officially confirmed or denied. But the protests escalated into a full scale riot. A rumour has also gone around that the little girl didn't survive and it's being kept quiet. I really hope that part is not true. In the last few weeks there have been two very high profile murder convictions of immigrant men. One who murdered a young woman while she was jogging another who very, very viciously murdered two gay men in their homes. There is another trial upcoming of an Afghan man who mutilated and murdered a woman earlier this year.

On top of that we have a housing crisis as we have taken in too many refugees to house. Meaning that accommodation is unavailable for a lot of the current population. Hotels in many areas are full of migrants, which also means that businesses that rely on tourism are making no money. And there have been a lot of reports of increases of rape and sexual assaults in areas where groups of these men are housed.

There has been no civil unrest close to this in Ireland since the civil war 100 years ago. The Gardaí (police) where completely overwhelmed by it. They have no training for events like this. Very little equipment and are a mostly unarmed force. And tbf to them, many were probably shaken following the initial attack too. So they could do nothing other than hang about last night.

I suspect this is likely to be the start of something. Trashing your own city, destroying buses and trams isn't going to achieve anything. But it does show clearly that there is a huge amount of people who feel ignored and there is a lot of stored up anger that could be tapped into if a political movement was to develop out of it.
