The first time I went to burningman, I was told we had to bring a gift. When I told my friend I wanted to bring the gift of nothing, I was laughed at. Who's laughing now?

I thought I was the only Burner on here. Few people talk about it. I went 10 times 1999-2008.

I went with almost nothing one year. I had a tent but didn't even unpack it. I was too busy and just slept in some of the wonderful chill spaces.

Other years I went with almost everything.

It was always different. Some years I got loaded. 2 years I did sober. A couple years I got nuffin. Other years I got laid like crazy. Obviously that's feeding into the negative taboo stereotypes about it being about sex and drugs, but there's sooooo much more, and to properly address any of that actually requires context.

My ex went when you were aloud to get run over and could shoot guns. There is no context.

Those were the very early days, in 1998 or before. They used to have a "drive by shooting range" where they'd set up targets and folks in the back of pickup trucks would drive by and shoot at them. In those days the numbers were smaller and the people were generally more rugged and safety conscious. Of course accidents were made. A guy sleeping in his tent was run over by someone going too fast in the wide open space. Another guy fell of the back of a truck and got pinched and/or run over by the trailer. Beyond that I don't know of much other running over of people, though I'm quite sure there have been other non-fatal incidences. It's an extreme event in an extreme environment with extreme people. There's no where else I'd rather be.
