I want to share some paycheck details of Canada Post Full Time Letter Carriers to the public. That way potential workers who want to work in similiar fields will have knowledge beforehand and able to make fair comparisons, thus workers will hopefully get less cheated on by greedy corporate management.
Main downsides for working in Canada Post Public Service jobs are: - Biweekly system: also need to wait extra 2 weeks after end of each pay period to get your earnings. - Tax & Benefits deduction takes up about 31% (nearly 1/3) out of every single paycheck - Federal Taxes are the biggest deduction in every paycheck (10~15%), followed by CPP(Canada Pension Plan) and EI. And the more overtime you work, the bigger percentage of your paycheck will be automatically deducted as taxes as per government calculations based on your martiall status, depedents and location. These heavy government mandated deductions are non-avoidable and non-negotiable for government related jobs such as in Canada Post, with no workarounds to further reduce it. - CUPW union dues of nearly ~$98 is deducted monthly (roughly every 2 paychecks) - Full time employees have extra deduction for disability&life insurance & dental plan: this is not 100% covered by the company, premiums totaling about $40 are deducted from employees in every biweekly paycheck. - Canada Post Benefits pays only around 80% for most benefits coverages, and limits to only about $1000~2000 total claims per year. - Full time employees also have extra deduction of ~$200 in every pay check for seperate company pension contribution, and this is not the same as the national CPP. You get some of this money back (minus tax witholdings and investment losses) after you leave the company, and apply to the Canada Post Pension Centre for the commuted value payout - paystubs often has reversal / shady questionable entries, such as negative dolloar figures for vacation pay clawbacks/adjustments, and "overpayment recovery" being improerly listed in earnings section when it is actually a deduction
