Obey company rules put in place for reasons you don't understand, or be fired. It's not even difficult; literally the default was doing the thing that doesn't get you fired. Besides which that thing could have wrecked both him and his car if it freaked out inside which makes him a dummy so they should have fired him for being a dummy anyway.

That sounds like a legit decision on the company's part. The guy knew what he was doing was illegal and wrong.
