One of the moderators of our group formerly for gay males posted this weekend talking about the future of the group and whether or not they (the moderators) would continue to allow any posts other than announcements about outside events, the reason being that they are having to plow through so many "toxic" posts. The complaint is that it shouldn't become a place just for people to attack one another.
Well, guess what. Before the TQ+ tidal wave, it wasn't like that. 99% of the time, it's trans women or non-binary idmales posting angry messages denouncing anyone who doesn't agree with them. Pretty much everyone I used to be friends with has withdrawn from discussions if they haven't left the group altogether.
We used to be a group of gay men who, for the most part, got along. Then, to be inclusive, we opened the doors to the TQ+, and, as a result, it's constant shit-flinging and acting-out. And they go on all the time about how much they hate "cis" people.
So, no, I don't want to be part of the LGBTQ+ because I don't feel the need to make common cause with people who hate me and seem to want me around only insofar as I'll serve as their punching bag.
Someone could simply try to form a new group for gay men, but what do you want to bet that they'd follow?
Edit: At one level, I do have compassion for these people because they seem to have a LOT of serious psychological problems that lead to very unpleasant outcomes in their lives, but, at the same time, I do know one thing: Whatever is wrong with them, it's not my fault or my responsibility.
