I remember being a regular on Digg for years and then suddenly having to jump ship to Reddit with the v4 downfall. And now here we are again having to migrate.
Reddit's death is dragging on much much slower than Digg's sudden collapse but viable alternatives like this place gaining momentum, it's only a matter of time.
I've noticed a common theme in both the collapse of Digg and Reddit's current downfall: Bowing to corporations. Digg v4 allowed "Mainstream outlets" (IE advertisers) and Power Users to have more control over the front page and disabled the bury button. Reddit is currently banning subs that aren't advertiser friendly and quarantining any they can't outright ban whilst finding any excuse to escalate it to a ban.
Maybe that's the inevitable result of these sites when they get big and we'll have to jump again. Either way I hope to at least be here for the next 10 years before that ever happens, if it happens, to this place.
