Have you considered ZeroNet? It runs on the BitTorrent network and works with existing torrent trackers to distribute files.

It's relatively easy to set up, and making a proxy to the clearnet is also really quick. When Reddit banned /r/watchpeopledie, my friends and I managed to setup a ZeroNet site and also made it accessible to the outside world through a VPS (Check out here for a demo).

Maybe Saidit could also have a similar system. There's even a Voat clone in ZeroNet that you guys could probably use as a starting point.

Hi, I am a 13 year Reddit veteran seeking asylum on Saidit by friend in Introductions

I feel the same way too. Even when using an alt I never felt comfortable commenting on Reddit. But here I really feel welcomed. I like y'all :)

I wanted something that's very unique, to the point that passerby's would just forget about me, but those who are actually interested in me wouldn't have a hard time remembering my username.

Kinda egocentric, but I only wanna be remembered by those who care.

Hey, nice to be back. I'll inform the community discord members about this.

FYI, the Saidit app is also available on the Play Store.

Being able to play by hearing is so much fun! Not to brag or anything, but I was fortunate enough to go to piano lessons as a kid, so I can (almost) instantly know how to play a song just by hearing it once. Now I'm trying to learn how to read sheet music since I really suck at it lol.

Don't give up practicing my dude. I assure you it is very nice being able to improv on the fly, especially when you're playing with other friends who could play music too.

That's going to be a bit challenging. I guess the front end UI part could be hosted normally while the user content is stored in IPFS. Keeping the database won't be possible with IPFS since it only works with static files, but I think using a separate proxy server to contact ZeroNet might work.

So the clearnet UI will connect to a clearnet proxy which has access to ZeroNet. There could even be multiple proxies located in different regions for redundancy.

But by doing that, the community wouldn't be seeding the ZeroNet backend since everything is done through a proxy.

Also, I don't think the Voat clone on ZeroNet runs Voat code, since the backend system is completely different from conventional websites. Rewriting the site from scratch would've been easier.

Can you elaborate on Voat having to pay to run the code? Does it run on a proprietary/commercial license or something?

Just FYI, someone's already made a Voat clone on ZeroNet so it is possible to host Saidit in there.

There's already a working Voat clone on ZeroNet, which we can use as a starting point for a new site. it's just a matter of whether or not the community wants to move.

The site is up on github. It's just a clone of ZeroTalk with some modifications to support nested comments and downvotes.

Why you shouldn't exercise to lose weight, explained with 60+ studies - Vox - Pocket by Entropick in Fitness

This is true. Back then I used to hit the gym frequently but I never controlled my food intake because I thought the exercise would've made up for it. In fact, I actually are more and didn't lose any weight, so I stopped exercising.

But recently I tried to re-evaluate my calories in and out, and realized that I'm eating way too much. I started cutting my food intake down and stopped snacking altogether, and within weeks I've already lost more weight than the entire year when I went to the gym.

I plan to hit the gym again soon, and this time also controlling my food intake too. This time around I'm sure it'll work.

Hey buddy, welcome too!

Yup, was out when WPD was banned. I don't go there often so I don't recognize your username, sorry. I just had fond memories of it and the people there were really nice too, so I was upset when they finally decided to ban the community.

Well I guess that ban finally snapped me out of my reddit addiction because I don't open it anymore. I just visit /r/anime every once in a while to catch up with the latest discussions haha.

Ah that's neat. My country's finally finishing what they said they'd do a long time ago. Kinda sad we've been stalling the project but also glad that it's finally nearing its completion.

Yeah, IPFS is another thing. It integrates more easily into existing browsers without having to download extra software, and there are already websites implementing it (e.g. d.tube). Clearnet is just a term we use to refer to the normal internet.

Not sure what they're planning, but isn't keeping it a secret basically just security by obscurity? Sooner or later someone's going to find out anyways. Redundancy should be better in that case.

I saw the ZeroNet helper extension but it still requires ZeroNet to be installed in your computer, which is probably one of the main barriers that prevents people from adopting the technology. Downloading another piece of software just to access one website is too much of a hassle.

And thanks for introducing me to Holochain, I just checked it out and it seems interesting. I'll have to look into it.

There's already a fully working Voat clone on ZeroNet, I guess it's up to Saidit to decide whether they want to move the community over.

Hooh boy I'm so hyped right now. Hoping it doesn't get delayed. Hoping it will be 24 episodes (what's the term? 2 cors?). Hoping animation quality stays great.

All aboard the hype train! Choo choo!

Ah I see. Well it's nice to see the sub created already. I've told the discord group, hopefully they'll join in the move.
