How exactly is this racist?

A person with Asian ancestry felt insulted by the image of the chinaman. Made a big deal about it. People of color seem to be triggered by cartoons. I don't know any white men who feel like Elmer Fudd is ridiculing them, but I have met people who take images of little black Sambo personally.

SaidIt Survey: Ban /u/socks and /u/ActuallyNot or keep them around?

Keep them around, and stop attacking them. Y'all need to learn how to respect people who are different from yourselves.

It's a big internet, it's impossible to be all things to all people. Saidit's promise of high quality debate is attractive. Too often the 'debate' degenerates into propaganda and insults. The challenge is to live up to the promise, not to degenerate further, to propaganda, insults and porn. Plenty of other sites have that market covered.

Lol, you want me to access a PDF in the downloads directory of your C: drive, Rob? Somehow I doubt if that is a government website. It just gets more lame every time I look into it.

Human nature and the two-party system conspire to limit intelligent discussion. Intelligent discussion on the internet is easier if the topic is car repair or cooking - easier for the mods to recognize off-topic posts, and far less knee-jerk hatred. Yet the effort is admirable and necessary.

Did the Rothschilds pay to have a Denail of Service attack on Saidit?

"denail" - guess you would use a claw hammer for that.

If you had control of a botnet designed for DDoS, you might want to test it. So you might seek web sites for target practice. You find a web-based community small enough that you won't attract too much attention, and kind enough to let you in. You command your bots to join and to contribute to the community. Being bots, they don't have a lot to contribute to the conversation, but being bots, that doesn't stop them. As the botnet creators are generally adversarial, these bots carry a lot of antagonistic patterns in their database. Rational discourse is not part of their design.

The community watches as these newcomers fill the forum with gibberish. The bot masters test the limits of the community, trying to find how far they can go without being banned.

The bots attempt to invoke hatred in the community as a cover for their exploits.

I've heard it said that in the US, the people fear the government, while in France it't the other way around - the government fears the people.

The web is nothing but a picture box now.

Dyslexia?

I've watched all of the media that I use to love turn to shit in the last decade. Myspace was great, for a time. Facebook was too. Digg. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Colbert. Chapelle. JRE. YouTube. Reddit. They all got mainstreamed (or ceased to exist altogether) and they all lost their edge.
wendolynne 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun 3 years ago

It's still a big internet, and you can still find stuff worth reading/watching. I'm not going to list my favorites here, for fear that they may become popular and attract the attention of the cancel culture, or the trolls, or the deep state, or the religious fundamentalists, or the clowns,..... (Okay, I will mention Saturday Night Live, it probably won't last anyway)

"Build bridges, make a big tent, and win over the majority of people. I sincerely don't believe that conservative causes are unpopular ones. Explained rationally, almost everyone in the world can agree with at least some of them. The objective must not be to set 50% against the other 50%, but to unite the 99% of honest people against the 1% of elites."

Keep the focus on the issues and causes. Avoid attributing your ideas to one side or the other, which only invites people to dismiss your ideas out-of-hand. If it is truly a good idea, something that will make the world a better place, then it will appeal to most people who listen to them. Don't unnecessarily give them a reason to avoid reading/listening.

Politics seems to attract crazy people. Rallies seem to attract violent people. Crazy and violent people seem to attract news reporters - "if it bleads it leads." Crazy violent people steal the focus and are a setback. Promoting good solid solutions is not as dramatic.

"Autoritätsdusel ist der größte Feind der Wahrheit." / "Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth." ~ Albert Einstein
wendolynne 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun 5 years ago

If I'm using google translate correctly, "Autoritätsdusel " is a compound word made of two words:

Autoritäts = of authority, and

dusel = fluke, luck, happenstance

The rest of the phrase translates directly. Maybe it should be: Accidental authority is the greatest enemy of truth.

The sense being, just because someone has credentials doesn't necessarily mean they know everything, but it is hard to convince people that you are right when you contradict authority.
