I literally just watched that and came here to post it. I've been trying to explain to my mom why I don't go on reddit anymore. Hopefully this will help. Fuck, I miss truelesbians. You guys are great but it was such an active community.

To be a parent by [deleted] in Lesbians

[–]weirdlyhaunted 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have never, ever, ever wanted to have kids. Since I was five I've been saying I don't want kids, and only now in my thirties are people starting to believe me. In the interim, I have discovered that I'm not actually opposed to being a parent, I just have no desire to go through the horrific and life-threatening condition of pregnancy and the trauma of giving birth. I may adopt, someday, but even that is very unlikely because I simply don't want to live for someone else.

One of my all-time favorite campy movies from high school, and something that makes me feel stupid for not realizing at that time that I am, basically, Megan. I went another decade before accepting that I'm gay.

Also, Clea DuVall forever.

Exactly this. I wish I knew what it used to be like--I only finally accepted my sexuality around 2015, and was miserable thinking I was a broken straight girl before that. I just want to be. Why is it so difficult for others to allow that?

I'm getting off toxic social media. The TL ban was the impetus, and now reddit is nothing but a wasteland of virtue signaling and horror porn. Getting back into my irl hobbies, like you. I'm thinking about learning to hunt and spending more time outside.

Honestly, I love looking at any naturescape that is devoid of obvious human interference. Vast, rolling grasslands? Yes, please. Mossy, lakeside forest? Absolutely. Humid, sticky swamp. I'm there. Give me a place without people and it's my favorite. Even arid deserts, so long as I don't have to be in them.

Do you believe in compulsory heterosexuality? by QueenOfTheNorth in Lesbians

[–]weirdlyhaunted 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I grew up in an extremely dysfunctional family where the baseline was feeling bad about yourself and being anxious about literally everything. So when boys started showing interest around puberty, I mistook that feeling in the pit of my stomach (which was dread and bad anxiety) for butterflies and went with it. Oh, I suppose I should mention that my dysfunctional family got extra fun when my dad converted to very conservative christianity when I was still a little kid, so I spent my formative years learning that gay people had something wrong with them and I so desperately wanted to feel like I was normal and not in a fucked up emotionally abusive home that I never even considered whether I might be a lesbian until many, many years later, after I got into therapy and on antidepressants. The "female sexuality is fluid" bullshit did some damage, too. Any attraction I did allow myself to feel for women was rationalized away as "well, they're objectively attractive, all straight women think so, too." I'm better now and I've cut off the toxic family members. But I still have so much baggage to work on that I'm terrified of starting anything with any woman, because I don't want to fuck up someone else's life.

That FACE! I want to cuddle this pup so much. I love big dogs. Your wife is going to love it. I mean, she might be irked at first because introducing a new animal into a household is quite stressful, especially if you didn't choose the change, but how can you be upset for long when that face is there?

Working 9 to 5... by fckme in Lesbians

[–]weirdlyhaunted 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've changed careers two or three times already, so no, I did not know from a young age that I'd be doing what I'm doing now. I'm an attorney. I enjoy the work but I have no passion for it. That said, it's fulfilling enough to balance the parts of it that are emotionally draining and it pays well enough to fund the things in my life I actually am passionate about. It's definitely not for everyone, though, and I made the conscious decision to pursue a lower-stress (and lower-paying) practice area and market, which is also not a decision that would work for everyone. But I wanted a work-life balance, and I got it. Suits me.

Lol, kind of. Mine is like clockwork, every 28 days, so it's on my calendar and I should be aware it's coming. But... unless I actually check my calendar, I'm surprised when I wake up one day angry at literally everything then when I start cramping and bleeding two days later it all makes sense.

This Podcast Will Kill You--about diseases, disease ecology, and epidemiology, hosted by two scientist women, both named Erin. One is definitely straight--or at least, not lesbian--but the sexuality of the other is unclear. Regardless, it's an amazing podcast, particularly since they go very in depth about COVID... although, if you start from the beginning, they started this podcast a few years ago, and it's really weird hearing them talk about the potential for pandemics before any of this stuff went down.

I found a gym with a coach & membership community I really vibe with. It's CrossFit because that's the kind of intense workout I like (despite being incredibly weak and out of shape--they have to scale down every single exercise for me), but you can find that sort of camaraderie in any type of gym.

But, seriously, swimming at a local, less-popular lake. It was GLORIOUS.
