I honestly cannot fathom why people are so uncaring that AGPs may exist. Is this more of the "give men benefit of the doubt at all costs"? Like, they can of course recognize it (every time an AGP gets arrested for being a rapey creep they shout he's not really trans) and well yes that's the point. A lot of these guys are not really "trans" they just haven't committed a crime yet.

Hmm, maybe I can fathom it somewhat. Is it an extension of "no kinkshaming"!!! rhetoric? I am also thinking of every time a man is rapey or pedoish no one really wants to believe it until he gets arrested. Even then, no one really wants to believe it until the evidence is rock solid. But then I'm stumped as to why the AGP thoughts they spew all over the internet isn't considered rock solid evidence.

that's interesting. I live in a really liberal lgbT friendly area and never really see TiMs unless I'm at an LGBT centric place or event. no one I regularly interact with talks about TRA stuff or acts like they even exist. I do tend to avoid young people who are clearly very sjw though.

I was going to ask why someone who clearly doesn't go outside would post that video game language on a sub for being outside but I see that it's a game called "Outside". 🙃 so instead I'll presume it's because of the places you visit? I rarely see trans stuff except on here and other places where gender critical people congregate. video game communities seem to be teeming with brave and stunning transwomen so it's probably that.

I know you don't like it, but you can recognize a very different contextual tone when a woman calls herself a bitch vs when she calls her friends bitches vs 90% of the way men say bitch especially to a woman (I hope this makes sense). I would also feel bothered by a transwoman using that very male way of saying bitch.

Woman = feminine beauty and fashionable. I'm not sure when, but at some point being beautiful and fashionable became a baseline for women. I feel like I grew up in a time where you didn't HAVE to be either and could rely on some other aspect that made you special. I'm still none of those things and it does kind of hit you like a brick when you walk into a Women's Group and all the other women there are beautiful and/or fashionable, or at least try to be. They talk about being a woman and womanhood and it's intertwined with their experiences in beauty and fashion and heterosexuality and if you're not into those things it's not really that relatable. But because it's called a women's group or based around womanhood, I can see how you might start to doubt even being a woman at all. I've been a gender abolitionist (in the traditional sense) since preteens, but even I sometimes feel like a muppet person compared to "real women".

I'm tech-adjacent. I don't work on the tech explicitly, but I work at a hardware company. When I joined there were a few young women at the company. Covid times laid most of them off except the one actively into the hardware aspect. I think women just need to buckle down and get into the dirty bits. Explicitly work on hardware, software backend, all that kind of super male dominated aspects of tech companies. Too many women "settle" for frontend or webdev or get into similar positions like me as part of Office Admin, HR, customer support. In that position, there is no influence. From what I hear of my male coworkers, hardware engineers and data center people are hard to come by. When the pool for "fresh blood" is limited, they tend to choose more meritocratically. I will say that hardware does not seem as progressive, but it is an industry largely made up of boomer males so take that as you will.

I think a person can kiss or even engage in sex with a person they're not sexually attracted to, but then that's more of a question of their self esteem and mental health.

I'm a pretty tactile person, I find touching people (regardless of attraction, also not their genitals) to be interesting and sometimes comforting. humans are social beings. I didn't read the link but maybe "sensual attraction" is something about being in close contact with another person. like hugging a person who is naturally a great hugger.

if I were to run with it: - platonic: wanting to hang out without necessarily touching - sensual: wanting to non-sexual touch but not necessarily hang out with - romantic: both platonic and sensual and maybe also sex - sexual: the obvious - aesthetic: what OP said.

I think type 1's are more common in black and latino spaces, they also go super stealth. There's a wave of them on instagram as influencers/wannabe influencers. They blend in well as many of the hyper-feminine straight women influencers get all this plastic surgery done and facetune and filter the shit out of their pics. Not to mention that the women's makeup trends in these communities are very favorable to trans. When they do talk about being trans, it's usually in a super exclusive groups of other stealth tgirls and their chasers. Think a Nikita Dragun type, except Nikita milks trans identity as a way to get fame and stand out.

I wouldn't rule them out on pseudobisexuality, necessarily. A lot of heterosexual women in similar hyper-sexualized communities have become pseudobisexuals.

Qualitative assessments, like sociology that is now considered a "dumb" women's subject, was relegated to men because their brains were sooooo superior to make inferences on human nature and philosophical ideas.

Men tend to follow the money. By the 1960s and later (era Margaret Hamilton and Kathrine Johnson were at NASA), space was a big money industry. Computer science relaxed in between then and the dotcom boom and many women were able to gain an education. Male admission exponentially increased since the dotcom boom and current tech wave.

Mulan wasn't even necessarily against being a bride, but was anxious that she wouldn't live up to her community's idea of the "perfect bride" and wouldn't be accepted for who she is. She accepted being Sheng's bride because he accepted her for who she is.

In recent years, it seems that the strongest proponents of QT have been heterosexual and bisexual women, but I wouldn't deny that the main benefactors are males.

I think I went to college during that transition time, as it was called "Gender and Women's Studies". I kind of wish I had challenged myself to take a class (almost did but decided against it). I think I'm missing a lot by having avoided that transition.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have more info on the "end of history" idea (an author or a body of text)? Is it something that came out of postmodernism? Underlying this current libfem movement, I've felt that those who would benefit most were those who had the privilege of "options". Like, in a feminist context it would be the middle upper/upper class women, or with LGBT it would bisexuals/pansexuals. I never understood why it was called "Queer" Theory if it fundamentally argued that sexuality is a choice to be deconstructed and examined.

I appreciate your thoughts on transhumanism, it's something that's cropped up on my radar as well. As a teen I was very into cyberpunk in an aesthetic and "rage against the machine" type of way, but now it just seems very sinister to me. There is a dark irony in the fact that the people who now heavily tread that transhumanism line are the type who would be the cyberpunk villains of yesteryear.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'll admit, I've never taken a cultural competence training course, but it was a term I thought encompassed the general idea of cultural curiosity. Most of what I know about other women and the plights of other women is merely reading, watching, listening, and most importantly, critical thinking. I don't think you need a formal course to do all of that, and I definitely agree that anything led by the identity politics side of things is not the way to go.

Here is an article regarding the South Korean radical feminist movement. It's a great look at how the idea of "we're all women fighting for the same things" falls short of cultural context and perspective. What they are fighting for and most importantly why they are fighting is deeply rooted in their culture and history. Cultural competence training/practice is a great first step, it is extremely hard to build understanding with someone if you don't actually understand where their perspective is coming from. It seems to me like a lot of white feminists pull the "we are all women, we're all fighting for the same thing" concept without actually trying to see where the WoC perspective is coming from. Oftentimes the same crimes against WoC and white women are motivated by different cultural factors.

One thing I recommend all white feminists is to read chapter 4, "Racism and Feminism", of bell hooks' "Ain't I A Woman?" (you can Google it for a free pdf). If you can read the whole book, it's an interesting perspective on the historical-cultural context of the specific oppression of black women in America. It will probably upset white people/women a lot though (those of you who instinctively feel defensive around race topics, it is pretty unapologetic), so please please please try to keep an open mind.

Edit: As a disclaimer, I'm not saying that you have to agree with everything in the chapter to be a good ally. But I would say the main job as a white ally of WoC is to simply open your mind to their ideas and perspective, to consider their position and how it shapes their perspective, as well as to consider your own position within their perspective. WoC by default as minorities are forced to fit ourselves within the white perspective since day 1 in a white society, the least we can ask of you is a bit of reciprocation.
