The original concept to my understanding was to address bullying and advocate for the same respect and opportunities in non-sexual contexts. I recall when this was first a thing some people referencing studies that fat people were promoted less often at work and perceived to be less competent than their slimmer counterparts. And fat people do exist in great numbers in the west so advocating for more underwear/fashion options was a thing at the time too. I can get behind this because someone else's health isn't anyone's business, and one shouldn't be bullied if they want to slam burgers and fries everyday. I think black women's "peaking" will be similar to gay men's regarding TIW. No, they can't replace you, they can't take your dating prospects and you're still held as the gold standard of your dating pool. But they can take your language, culture, and spaces from right under you and insult you ruthlessly while doing so. And when it's clear to everyone what has happened the train will have already left the station. I definitely agree that it's more a prop for a larp than anything to do with self defense. I haven't been asked pronouns directly at job or interview but when I was applying for jobs around March-May I encountered a few applications that asked about gender and sexuality. I did a little experiment and told the truth on applications where I didn't care much about the company, and omitted or lied on ones that I was more keen on. I think this is the biggest reason why. I know personally 1 F/FTM couple and through friends another F/FTM couple and both the non-TIFs identify as queer or lesbian. The non-TIF of the couple I know personally still calls her partner her boyfriend but doesn't say she's straight, I'm assuming because "straight" is standard male+female and they're aware their configuration is not that. Also, like /u/reluctant_commenter pointed out no one cares about lesbians, no matter if one is a "guy." It's still 2 women so not much woke or social clout to utilize. Woke is more concerned with getting actual straight women to turn "lesbian" by opening up their pool to TW, and making lesbians open to TW.

Come to think of it, F/FTM may be the one situation where you're the most shielded in queer circles. No one can call you transphobic and you can reject TW by just saying you're into "men" (with pussies).

I still very much appreciate being able to marry my gf when we're ready but you're not off base. As many here have pointed out, all the 'queers' popped up once it was no longer inconvenient to be gay. I know a straight couple who got married in 2012 and now the girl has transed herself and now they claim to be a gay couple. Me and my gf used to hang out with them from 2011-2013ish in college. Funny how she wasn't a gay man at all when it would've been inconvenient and my gf and I had to go down the list of ~4 states and debate whether we should move to one of them or leave the US altogether. It's definitely one of the things I appreciate about being an old les--I can easily call out my peers who are so 'queer' now who were not at all gay anything back in high school and college (when there was no question of queer being a slur).

Also, I have to give credit to one of my old friends. She transitioned back in 2011-2012ish, changed over all documentation and became a man on paper. There's pretty much no transbians in black lesbian world so this question isn't even necessary besides to police language and out any thought-criminals. White transbians seem to go after white lesbians the most. Maybe the woke rhetoric won't work on black women, idk. And it'd be a cold day in hell before black men start dressing as women to get laid in any considerable number. I mean nothing is out of the realm of possibility but black people are conservative af so a dude walking around claiming womanhood while trying to date women is going to get roasted every day of his life.

Yea probably not the best comparison I admit that. Just trying to convey the point that they don't have to piggyback on another group's struggle to validate their own, which as you said is really rooted in their own country's elite making their homeland a shithole. Thanks for your input.

In addition to that, black people and other groups who were excluded just made their own spaces and pretty much only demanded to be included in institutions like voting, medicine, education, and jobs. Black people literally were excluded from the university system and made their own colleges and universities. They created their own epicenters of commerce (ie Black Wall Street) and culture. To compare themselves to black people and racial minorities in general is an insult. Racial/ethnic minorities didn't whine and cry like pussies, they fucking made it happen despite actual real deal discrimination and threats to their lives and families.

IMO if you have to constantly compare your struggle to another group's struggle it isn't valid. Jewish people don't have to compare the Holocaust to slavery, it stands on its own merit. Mexicans and Central Americans don't have to say "it's like anti-black xyz!" in regards to being put in cages, it speaks for itself.

Sorry for the rant but it's insulting as hell for a bunch of white people with a weird ass fetish to compare themselves to groups who've actually been through shit and on top of that claim to be the group that fought for LGB rights when all they do is bitch about people not validating their fee fees.
