I know. It's disturbing. A guy on one thread posted a very reasonable, very wise comment that whether or not anyone felt the referendums were valid, the only thing that mattered was how Moscow viewed them. It was a really good comment, and was articulate and sound.

It also had basically no votes, and was followed by a chorus of nothing but "F*** Russia!" from numerous people in post after post, with each post getting dozens of up-votes. Very weird. These are the websites that inform people's views of the world and control discourse.

You hear this a lot. Basically, their "trans self" becomes a kind of alter-identity that obscures who they used to be when they were just a grungy girl who liked Nirvana and trucks. It's sad, twisted, and very, very messed up. It really is a mental, emotional, and spiritual illness.

I find it very weird that the West demands that everyone be able to vote and promotes "Democracy" all over the world, but when an ethnic group or nation holds a vote to decide something that they don't like, they spazz and label it "invalid". Ok. Are you sure, though? Are you sure? Because you're also telling me that Biden won the last election. It seems premature to be absolutely sure that these people don't want to be part of Russia. Many of them are, after all, ethnic Russians.

Even if you feel that these votes and the referendums are a total sham, what matters is that Russia sees it as valid. Attack or attempt to re-take these states, and get nuked. We better take Putin seriously. Because antagonizing him, demonizing him, sanctioning him, and refusing to work with him on anything hasn't gone well for anyone.

The complete lack and essential black-out of any ability to understand things from the Russian side has me very unsure of how to approach this war. I'm not saying Putin is a hero, but I'm not sure he's a bad guy, either. He sounds like a strong, patriotic man who cares about Russians. This war, at least from his point of view, was about saving ethnic Russians living in Ukraine from abuse. Those claims have not been very well examined by the Western media. There's no balance.

She always looks kind of dead and angry. You'd think changing her body to what she wants it to be like would make her happy, but she juts looks agitated and cheesed off. I keep hearing from detransitioners that nothing they did made them really happy. I think people forget how messed up, misogynistic, superstitious, and purity-obsessed a lot of pagan cultures are / were. It's not all love and peace and smoking weed and nature. There are all of these specific rules, sex-based segregation, purity rituals, strange rules about marriage and widowhood, etc.

Bring back the native culture and the native women are shocked they can't go wherever they want or hang out with their own brothers because of incredibly specific rules about purity, clan taboos, etc. Every culture has some good points and some weird points. You want to revert to pre-contact culture, things are going to get a little weird.

I hadn't even known that bots were that big of a problem (or even a thing) until someone pointed out Reddit. When browsing Reddit, I was always floored and baffled by how far, far left everyone seemed to be. I have never run into people that far left in real life. I've run into liberal college students and have had several gay co-workers, but nobody was this extreme. It was bizarre and kind of incredible.

Well, if most of Reddit is bots being let loose to spew hyper-liberal comments and upvote the living daylights out of the worst stuff out there, Reddit makes sense. Because even the left leaning people I know in real life are pretty moderate and reasonable. They're pro-lgb but leery of trans stuff. Or the ones who are ok with trans stuff seem to think that we shouldn't attempt to transition children.

No one is even remotely as extreme as your average Redditor. Not even close. But if 90% of it is bots, that makes sense.

Also, there's one of these guys in my neighborhood. He has long-ish pink hair, wears short shorts and a tank top, and rides around on a pink bike trying to talk to lone women.

"It's a beautiful daaaaaaaaay!!!" No one talks to him. He mysteriously never tries to chat up men, women walking with a boyfriend or husband, or groups of people. Just women out walking by themselves.

He's a creep and a predator, and everyone knows it. I think that 95% of these guys are just sexually frustrated perverts trying to gain women's trust (and access to the locker room) by dressing like a woman.

This entire movement is based on going with a momentary feeling. Young people don't understand that their ideas, opinions, bodies, brains, and personalities are still developing. They may not feel "trans" five years from now. You can't emotionally phase out of a genuine physical condition, so clearly transgenderism is not a physical condition. It's an emotional / psychological one.

I agree, it's way too shortsighted. And this isn't even, like, a tattoo. It's a double mastectomy or penile inversion. Sheesh. This needs to stop. This needs to be illegal.

I don't see anything wrong with this. He doesn't want to get involved with a woman who has a kid. She reached out to him once she and her long-term boyfriend split. They had a kid together, never married, and they broke up. This guy doesn't want to catch up. He senses that she wants something from him, and he's probably right. She's possibly looking for a man to help raise her kid, and it's odd that she's only wanting to catch up now.

NTA. The kid's obviously not luggage, and this isn't the kid's fault at all, but I can understand the guy's hesitation to have anything to do with this woman. She knew all the guys found her cute, now she's trying to cash in on her cuteness to reel this guy in. If you weren't good enough for her back then, you should realize she's wanting something. I ran into an old friend of ours today. She's a very sweet, funny, feisty old woman. About 72. Her first shot gave her shingles and two entire months of non-stop vertigo. She was appalled, still has the shingles scars on her face, and also had to have blood vessels removed from her head due to searing pain behind her eye. Holy cow. This is the age demographic especially vulnerable to Covid, whom the injections were supposed to protect. She's disgusted, and won't take any more shots.

They should have properly understood rare yet serious side effects, and not touted this stuff as a miracle. This is the second, possibly third vaccine injury I'm aware of in my own social circle. People should have been allowed to decline these shots, and they should not have been pushed on people.

This may lead to gay bars who host these shows being limited to 18+ admission. No minor teens, no kids, show your ID at the door.

Yep... I'm maybe going to get piled on here, but the original plan of Christian missionaries with these people was to abolish those parts of their society that were cruel, pagan, nit-picky, superstitious to the point of leaving people terrified of natural phenomenon, and impure. Those parts of their culture that were good or neutral could move forward (like respect for parents, traditional artwork and crafts, respect for marriage), etc.

The missionaries could go overboard with discouraging traditional languages and with abuses, too. But the basic intentions were good, and even necessary, and worked in many places.

Europeans had to go through this, too. Pagan European culture stank. There were some good parts, some noble parts, but an awful lot of human sacrifice, superstition, cruelty, and weirdness, too. So, not everything moved forward. A lot of stuff did, but not everything. I am somewhat concerned about these attempts I hear of to glorify and bring back pagan Europe. Again, I'm not sure these people understand what, exactly, they're resurrecting. It's not all good.

But this is still making the choice to own and drive your own car a lot more of a pain in the neck. It's not the same as making car ownership illegal, but by punishing people for driving their own cars, you're passive-aggressively tightening the vice grip on car drivers. That's not right. This is one step closer to the kind of public monitoring and punishment system that seems to be trying to roll itself out all over.

If I own a car I should be free to drive it. It's my headache to deal with if I get stuck in traffic. By saying I can't drive home directly but have to drive 20 minutes out of my way because the environment, that's too much control. Everyone is free to get a bike, or take a bus.

I'm not against cities being more bike-friendly. That's great. I hate sharing the road with flocks of cyclists. They need their own separate bike paths next to the car routes.

But this is basically punishing people for driving their own cars. That's weird.

This is still a bit much :

Up to 100 day passes per year will be offered to residents and businesses affected by the changes, enabling them to travel through the filters without penalty. A spokesperson for the council explained: "Traffic filters have been part of Oxford’s Transport Strategy since 2015, and are a key tool to reduce traffic congestion in Oxford. Traffic filters are not designed to stop people from driving private vehicles.

"Everywhere in the city will still be accessible by car, although some private car drivers may need to use a different route during the operating hours of the traffic filters [so, basically, not all parts of the city will be accessible to people driving their own car at all times.]. Vehicles going through the traffic filters will be monitored by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, not by electronic gates or any other physical barriers [this part is still creepy. why monitor anything? if you break the rules does your scs get down-voted? seriously.].

"When they are operating, private cars will not be allowed through without a permit. All other vehicles including buses, coaches, taxis, vans, mopeds, motorbikes and HGVs will be allowed at all times."

~~~
They're basically punishing people for owning cars. Forcing people to use public transit or ride a smaller vehicle (like a moped or a bike), if they want to access every possible route whenever they wish.
I think both sides have parties that lie to them, and echo chambers minus any nuance are a big problem all over. Plus, I just don't care that much about politics. I'm more into technology, philosophy, ethics, and theology. And dogs. And coffee.
Well, they're not supposed to be. Problem is, now you have drag queen story hour, kids being taken on field trips to gay bars, and adult sexuality being taught to kids at younger and younger ages. This is all concerning, and tends to point back to the LGBTQ community, even though plenty of LGB people are not on board with this.
I don't think this will impact cross dressing. This is basically about performances, specifically raunchy stage performances where men in drag sing and perform in an explicit or obscene manner. This is not about a man wearing a dress in public as he shops for groceries, gets his car fixed at the shop, and pays his water bill.
Maybe have it be very strict; if someone threatens to kill you, physically hurt you, or hurt your family, sure. Prosecute that. It's word salad that begins to "feel real" to people because the brain, body, and emotions are deeply connected. The fact that people de-transition, though, shows that this is not an innately physical issue, but a psychological one.
I spent six years living with an arm that had zero motor function from the elbow to the fingertips after I was injured in a Vespa accident. Picture one of those inflatable T. rex costumes: The person wearing it knows the tail is there, but they keep knocking drinks over and tripping people nonetheless. When you’re aware of something but have absolutely no control over what it does, it’s time to Marie Kondo it. I had no guarantee life would be better as an amputee than it was with a paralyzed arm, but knew it was time to part with my arm as it sparked no joy...
This year, my left arm actually started growing back. “Like a lizard?” I asked my doctor, borderline excited that I really might be part T. rex. No, not exactly, it turns out. While I won’t regrow an elbow, forearm or hand, my arm bone has virtually rebuilt itself. My humerus is now visible just beneath the skin ― about an inch and a half past where it ended a year ago. The pain I’m experiencing is somewhat akin to what I imagine Harry Potter must have felt after his professor made the bones in his arm disappear and he had to regrow them. Every morning I wake up and look down to see if there’s a hand or if the bone has finally made its way past the wispy layer keeping it in. Thankfully, it hasn’t ― I’ve gotten too used to my freedom, range of motion, and half-priced manicures. So, in light of this ironic setback, come Friday, I’ll be having my left arm cut off again. And I couldn’t be happier about it.
[–]tiny-brown-mug 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)
She was likely closer to 14 when she was engaged to Saint Joseph, and closer to 15 when she bore Christ. In pre-diaspora Jewish culture, girls would not have been typically married until they were old enough to have children, and like Jett implied, girls back then developed later. Thanks to all the hormones and junk in our food today, girls as young as 8 begin developing physically, but on a natural, pre-modern diet 13-17 would have been a more realistic age for a young woman to be able to have kids, and hence get engaged.
The engagement period also typically lasted about a year, after which the young man and woman began actually living together as husband and wife.
This all kind of gets implied in the Gospels. The Annunciation happened after she had already been engaged to Saint Joseph, and she was found to be expecting a Son during her engagement period. This would have had to have been a long enough engagement period for her family to notice she was pregnant. It's also shown that a girl of 12 (Jairus' daughter) was still at home, thought of as child, was not engaged, and was not yet married. So 12 is a bit young.
Based on more natural human development and 1st Century Jewish culture, we can infer that Mary was 13-17 when she was engaged and 14-18 when she bore Christ. thumbs up
I wondered about this. I remember reading a very weird article in early 2021. A 19-year-old girl was having trouble with Covid (some breathing issues), and her mother brought her to the hospital. Once there, she was put on oxygen, and then the hospital decided to put her (the daughter) on a ventilator. The daughter was screaming and crying in terror at the thought of being on a ventilator as she saw this as an indication that she would not recover. The 19-year-old girl was put on a ventilator, and died.
Ok, now... most 19-year-olds can recover just fine from Covid. This girl may have had complications which made her very sick, but still. If she was screaming and crying at the thought of being put on a ventilator, did she really need a ventilator? And why did she die after being put on one? Shouldn't that have helped her?
The whole article was just incredibly messed up.
Perhaps this is the goal. No cars, no meat, no baby humans. And no electricity. While a part of me finds projects like this interesting, I can't help but feel that there's an extremist message or end goal here.
I have a question. Is Biden hiding something in Ukraine? Because he seems to be absolutely obsessed with that country, and he's spending billions to make sure Russia doesn't take it over. China forcefully took back Hong Kong, we didn't care. India took back Kashmir, we didn't care. Israel keeps chipping away into parts of Syria, and we don't care.
Why is he so obsessed with Ukraine? What's he hiding over there?
Do you guys think all the people who got vaccines are going to die? by [deleted] in AskSaidIt
I think most people will be ok. Those who, sadly, seem to be dying in large numbers are young, healthy athletes. Which is especially maddening, as young healthy people were least likely to die of Covid and really didn't need these darn shots. Most people I know who got them seem fine. I know of two vaccine injuries and a possible third, and all of them are pretty messed up. Migraines that never go away, dizzy spells, symptoms that mimic MS, etc. Sheesh.
I'm glad you seem to be ok, though. Just go easy on yourself. The less active a person is, the better chances they seem to have of not experiencing weird problems later.
