Yes I think we are in agreement on most of this as I'm a big believer in biology and the influence of hormones on male violence. I am drifting towards socialization however, due in no small parts to posts like this. Her in depth explanation in one of the comments is fascinating.

Ty for explaining your experience. The situation with PCOS is challenging and I wish you the best.

Firstly, I read everything you sent and respect the fact that you make an argument instead of throwing snark and running away. So while this is my final rebuttal on this thread, I'm looking fwd to the next topic we discuss.

I'm seeing three issues: 1. H/G Equality 2. Recent Income Inequality 3. Minimum Wage

  1. H/G Equality No argument that people share more equitably in small groups. You claim kinship, I claim accountability and transparency. Doesn't matter for argument that people are socially wired to share.

SC 1 GC 0

  1. Recent Income Inequality You ducked this issue of contractors and US health care. Clearly, capitalism concentrates wealth leading to inequality which leads to exploitation. You basically said to start your own business, which is laughable when we see how Walmart both crushes local small business and forces their own suppliers to offshore business. Concentrating wealth and power kills innovation, diversity and equitable, sustainable opportunities for people.

"Most of Walmart’s 1.5 million US employees don’t earn anything close to that, of course, and its stores are famous for their deleterious impact on small towns. One study shows the opening of a big-box retailer results in as many as 14 local stores closing, while another argues towns in Iowa lost 47% of their retail sales after a decade of a Wal-Mart opening. The harm to small towns was multiplied when Walmart closed 154 stores, leaving some towns without any options for groceries"

https://qz.com/999040/walmart-is-famous-for-destroying-small-towns-heres-the-amazing-one-it-built/

I prefer how graphs really illustrate the impacts of inequality over the last 50 years. We are on a runaway gravy train for big business and the 1% as shown below.

"The median household income had kept pace with the economy since 1970, it would now be nearly $92,000, not $50,000"

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/income-inequality-in-america-chart-graph/

SC 2 GC 0

Minimum Wage Keep in mind that data produced by Daniel Aaronson, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, may be biased towards elites, especially considering his conclusions regarding offshoring and automation in the face of raising the minimum wage:

"The key mechanism behind the model – that more labour-intensive establishments are replaced by more capital-intensive ones – is supported by evidence"

But this is more clearly enunciated here:

"I take a radical position: I not only think the minimum wage should not be raised, but it should be abolished and Congress should use its power under the commerce clause to prohibit state and local minimum wage laws...society is better off having lots and lots of entry-level jobs" Thomas A. Firey, Cato Institute

These arguments from diehard neocons basically assume that financial opportunity >> people's welfare and do not consider social equality in any way shape or form. They want more inequality and a more ruthless system than we already have. Ugh

This discussion started with humans being equitable by nature and here we are discussing the lowest amount companies can legally pay a person. I disagree with the values expressed here and will leave you with a more balanced source that reflects the values we were originally discussing:

"A minimum wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly remuneration employers legally have to pay to workers. The main purpose of the legislation is to ensure employers, who usually have higher bargaining power in the labor market, do not exploit their workers and that workers earn a fair living wage."

"Distributive justice is achieved when there is fair distribution of benefits and burdens by the state, so that everyone receives their due."

https://sevenpillarsinstitute.org/the-ethics-of-minimum-wage-legislation/

SC 3 GC 0

In the future I'll play nice if you play nice. Respectfully.

Firstly, I assert that families don't exploit others because you are accountable if you don't milk the cows and I do your share. It's obvious. Skimming all of our salaries adds up to a big chunk of change and is not exploitive if I voluntarily contribute for specific benefits as in a union. But that's not what you are saying. What you are saying is that it's not obvious when corporations do it. I disagree.

Your claim that the five levels of managers on top of me at evil Corp deserve half my pay, not 10%, for organizing doesn't wash. You shouldn't romanticize exploitation.

This is the same argument used to justify contractors vs. employees. Inserting a middle man is capitalism in a nutshell but adds no value other than driving down the cost of my labor. This is the entire justification for the us healthcare industry that delivers less health value for far greater costs. It's an organized system, but not in the way you are claiming. It's not about efficient health outcomes, it's about concentrating wealth. That's all Capitalism is about.

Increasing minimum wage does not lead to shuttered cafes. Many states have min wage greater than the federal level and the actualuzed min wage is at historic lows. Per economic policy institute: "As stressed in the Card and Krueger book cited above, these studies...solidly reject the conventional hypothesis that any increase in the minimum wage leads to job losses among affected workers."

Seems more like large groups provide the opportunity to exploit others. Referring to the natural state of humans counters the 'greed is good' mantra of predatory capitalism.

That's all I see, especially with ostentatious displays of wealth: arrogance and greed. The folks who swear allegiance to concentrating wealth and enriching the few have me shaking my head.

It's why people hate royalty, nepotism and corruption. Unearned benefits taken off the backs of the working man. Exploitation. This doesn't happen in small tribes cuz if you grab my food off my plate, you'd get KTFO.

And yet for almost all of human history, people practiced social equality. The need for heirarchy is a myth.

"Christopher Boehm, having explored data from 48 societies spread across the globe, ranging from small hunting and gathering bands to more sedentary chiefdoms, suggested that with the advent of anatomically modern humans who continued to live in small groups and had not yet domesticated plants and animals (hunter-gatherer), it is very likely that all human societies practised egalitarianism and that most of the time they did so very successfully."

"The term egalitarianism has two distinct definitions in modern English, either as a political doctrine that all people should be treated as equals and have the same political, economic, social and civil rights, or as a social philosophy advocating the removal of economic inequalities among people, economic egalitarianism, or the decentralization of power. Some sources define egalitarianism as equality reflecting the natural state of humanity."

We'll start with Thomas Sowell. US Marine Corp, fought against communists in Korean War with PhD from Chicago. The infamous Chicago Boys who helped Pinochet with extreme capitalism that required a brutal military dictatorship to give away resources to elites and multinationals. Branded by neolibs as the Chilean Miracle, "the regime left over 3,000 dead or missing, tortured tens of thousands of prisoners, and drove an estimated 200,000 Chileans into exile."

One could say the ussr was successful, compared to life under the tsar, this was a come up. China is obviously doing big things, but they are more fascist state capitalists than communist. Cuba has survived, despite being under the boot of the US. Vietnam is doing fine for the last 40 years.

El Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela had communist governments that all felt the wrath of the us either through coup or embargo and are actively prevented from functioning outside the communist sphere of influence.

I'd say that considering the venom and propaganda against communists, they've done ok. The issue, as always, is that the elites have the wealth and the guns. Communism threatens the elites. I'm surprised more people aren't supportive of the working man and would rather imagine they can get rich too.

lib•er•ty (lĭb′ər-tē) The condition of being free from confinement, servitude, or forced labor; the condition of being free from oppressive restriction or control by a government or other power.

While it's kinda fun telling people what they don't want to hear sometimes, it is projection of control. I think Orwell is confusing free speech with liberty here.

Free speech is about freedom TO say what you believe. Liberty is about freedom FROM oppression. Trying to control others is the pinch.

Your points about yelling fire in the theater is a good example of limits to free speech. And listening to others is a lot easier if there is something interesting to learn as well.

Sexual appetite cannot be reduced to mere testosterone - your flat negation followed by a narrow male-centric response is a comically underwhelming introduction. Let's see what else you got.

Gender socialization using intersex argument. Ok, 0.1% of the population born intersex and most want informed consent at age of majority rather than be butchered by doctors at birth. This has nothing to do with toxic masculinity or anything else I said. Random.

More random tiny perturbations of prebirth hormones that proves...nothing with respect to toxic masculinity the world over. Don't blame feminists for men's failure to take responsibility for evolving more appropriate social behaviors.

"The concept of toxic masculinity is used in academic and media discussions of masculinity to refer to certain cultural norms that are associated with harm to society and to men themselves. Traditional stereotypes of men as socially dominant, along with related traits such as misogyny and homophobia, can be considered "toxic" due in part to their promotion of violence, including sexual assault and domestic violence. The socialization of boys in patriarchal societies often normalizes violence, such as in the saying "boys will be boys" with regard to bullying and aggression."

You're certain that men don't suffer from the privilege of certainty? Ty for proving my point and here's some reading material to add weight to my opinion.

Two excerpts in reply. The first on increasing male suicide and the second on gender difference from (gag) Jordan motherfucking Peterson, who, when he sticks to research, is not nearly as much of a dick as he is on YT.

"You are the type of man who has chosen to isolate himself from town, health care and other people. Then you shoot yourself, and you’re hours from a trauma center.”

"It’s easy to bash white middled-aged men in America. As a member of that privileged group, I’ll admit that much of the bashing has been warranted: No group in the history of the world has been given and squandered more than the white man. Yet the American white man is responsible for enough suicides annually that Madison Square Garden could not hold all the victims"

"What really killed Hemingway was one of the things killing American men today: a macho fantasy of a man who needs no one but himself...Lingle fell in and out of love, with his most serious relationship ending when his girlfriend begged him for a last time to get help and he refused."

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/suicide-rate-america-white-men-841576/

"Where are the largest differences? Men are less agreeable (more competitive, harsher, tough-minded, skeptical, unsympathetic, critically-minded, independent, stubborn). This is in keeping with their proclivity, also documented cross-culturally,  to manifest higher rates of violence and antisocial or criminal behavior, such that incarceration rates for men vs women approximate 15:1. Women are higher in negative emotion, or neuroticism. They experience more anxiety, emotional pain, frustration, grief, self-conscious doubt and disappointment (something in keeping with their proclivity to experience depression at twice the rate of men). These differences appear to emerge at puberty...So even though men and women are more the same than they are different, the differences can matter."

Sorry mate, this is complete horseshit and smells alot like a men's rights advertisement. IMO, here's why.

Men and women are biologically different, but that doesn't manifest in a noticeable performance differences across many domains. For example, I love women's MMA. Women fight differently than men, but the fights are just as exciting. Same with women's football or math or playing the violin or sexual appetites.

However, particular male attributes, such as violence against women and what I call the privilege of certainty, really stand out. These characteristics of masculinity manifest in toxic, anti-social ways that feminism will eradicate with selective genetic pruning.

Men who blame women for their problems don't need to become women, they need to embrace social behaviors, empathy and communication. None of which fit the classical masculine profile promoted by popular cultures. Therefore do not blame feminists for men's problems with masculinity, blame the men who choose not to evolve.

TLDR; The problem is with socialization of gender roles, not with masculinity per se.

Funny imagery this, that multiplying laws calcified the body until everything freezes up. We're still alive, but trapped in position like statues.

I rather like this quote on modern culture:

"In our post-everything culture, obey has become a four-letter word. Obeying is for wimps. Obeying is for people who didn’t do well enough on their SATs to write their own rules. Only the weak and the feeble and the young—-well, not even the young anymore—-need to obey. Funny, because the root of the word obey is from the French verb meaning “to listen, or to give ear to.” It was never intended as a militant word, but one of hearing, of understanding. Of getting it. For a world obsessed with staying in constant communication, we aren’t really very good listeners."

We're in a funny little echo chamber of fear and insecurity. Somehow promoting equality of blacks and women takes something away from white males.

I can say that 'all humans are created equal' and trace that principle back to ensuring women and minorities have equal protections under the law.

You traced back 'all lives matter' to a core principle that isn't very respectable or worth aspiring towards. And that's why we rightfully call it out.

He started shooting within five seconds of being swarmed to stop before he killed more people. He was obviously terrified with zero situational awareness.

Plowing into a peaceful march is a fair characterization. Assault with a deadly weapon is not an unreasonable assessment either and could justify the threat of using lethal force to stop the commission of a crime.

If he drove into police like that, he'd be dead. The video can't be any more obvious.

"The aging white population, alongside a more youthful minority population, especially in the case of Latinos, will result in the U.S. becoming a majority-minority country in around 2044.

The demographic shift in the U.S. has resulted in many whites proclaiming that they are losing their country, and that they already are or will soon become a minority group."

Further evidence that sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're a fool than open it and remove all doubt. Like the fictional character you chose as a username, your opinions are non-sensical and irrelevant:

"Tolkien described Tom in The Lord of the Rings as "just an invention" and "not an important person – to the narrative", even if "he represents something that I feel important, though I would not be prepared to analyse the feeling precisely. We probably agree that censorship is worse than propaganda. At least with propaganda I am free to research and consider my own explanations.

The most difficult thing for me is to link a series of well-researched points into a coherent and persuasive argument. Apparently I'm not the only one who struggles with this.

That's like saying the NBA censored the Houston Rockets' Daryl Morey after he tweeted about HK because the NBA doesn't care about human rights or the fate of HK. They just care about the money more.

It's obvious that the NBA didn't want to inflame the CCP mission to crush HK independence because it would cost them money. Tencent is not an investor in the NBA, yet they kowtow to the CCP and throw human rights under the bus. Point of OP was allowing the CCP to invest in Reddit opens them to criticism. Don't know why you'd dismiss that as a conspiracy and flatly state CCP doesn't censor Reddit.

Your pointing out that Americans also censor doesn't get the CCP off the hook, hence why I callout your aims as you continue to make these false equivalencies in order to avoid saying admitting that the CCP has a history of censorship and money is influence.

That's shouldn't be so hard for someone committed to the 'truth'?

It's quite telling that you'd reason with 'whataboutism.' I'd be the first to criticize US imperialism at home and abroad. The DHS brownshirts in Portland are an abomination. These facts don't change the genocide being perpetrated by the CCP.

Locking immigrant children in cages is equally horrifying as 're-educating' Uighers in concentration camps. Being able to openly discuss these issues is the point I've been making, a luxury being curtailed on media platforms and obviously banned in China.

Excellent article. I'm always surprised that I get called a transphobe in anarchist/Chomsky subs when I make a claim similar to this quote from article:

"Is the problem that one is assigned to the wrong category? Or is the problem that society has imposed gender categories that are rigid, repressive, and reactionary on everyone? And if the problem is in society’s gender categories, then is not the solution to analyze the system of patriarchy — institutionalized male dominance — that generates those rigid categories? Should we not seek to dismantle that system?"

I'd think feminists and anarchists would be natural allies, but it feels like TRAs have already captured that space. Ugh.
