[–]strawberrysun 26 insightful - 2 fun26 insightful - 1 fun27 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I read and write fanfiction pretty often. Not trying to give myself away with too many details since I'm pretty well-known in a small fandom, but I once nope'd out of an otherwise decent series because the author had one of the main characters visit an agender doctor who used they/them pronouns. I wish I could say where this character lives because it would make that idea 10x funnier and even less realistic.

In another, the author had a character who explicitly describes herself as a lesbian in canon date a nonbinary OC.

I was once asked if I could make a background character trans. I did not respond.

This is so ridiculous. It's like if I, as a lesbian, demanded that everyone put their sexuality in their bio.

I am very obviously a woman. Any social media account connected with my real identity shows my face, and no one who can see would ever call me anything other than she. I also have a writing account that doesn't show my face, but it's still under a woman's name. Not like it even matters online anyway. When I (late 20s) was growing up, we were not encouraged to share personal info online at all.

Also, if they think that people will harass them if they're the only ones doing it, why don't they just... I don't know, STOP?

I’ve always struggled with the concept of stereotypes. I’ve been getting “but you don’t look/act/seem like a lesbian” ever since I started coming out in 2009. I have long hair, I don’t like flannels, I love to cook and eat meat (I make a hell of a pot roast!), I am a political moderate, and I would never in a million years even consider Uhauling. I’m just… average, I guess? You couldn’t pick me or any of my past girlfriends out of a lineup with all my straight female friends.

There was a moment in the early 2010s when I thought we as a society were kind of moving past all that and everyone could just be how they wanted, but it has disappeared entirely. I’ve noticed a lot of the “[fashion choice] makes you gay” or whatever nonsense in the past 5 years or so, and I’ve started to become resentful of it.

My boy-crazy little sister fits more lesbian stereotypes than I do.

I'm a super lesbian too. I moved to a big city in an east coast blue state almost a decade ago, eager to escape my small conservative hometown... And now I'm considering moving back south in a few years for similar reasons. Not to my hometown because my industry doesn't exist there, but maybe another southern state. My super gay and super lesbian friends who live in places like Texas and Georgia are so much happier than I am and have better dating lives.

I never could have imagined this at 18, and yet here we are. I experienced my fair share of homophobia as a teenager, but the worst comments I ever heard back home pale in comparison to the crap the "woke homophobes" are spouting these days.
