People are attracted to people, not body parts

Body parts are parts of people. I don't know if it's more qt sophistry or just severe mental illness but so many TRAs seem to see human beings as chop shops rather than indivisible wholes. It's not and never has been just a "genital preference"; most people are attracted to ALL of the primary and secondary sex characteristics of a particular sex, none of which can be convincingly mimicked.

This guy is hilarious though. People like him are the reason Titania McGrath is so believable.

-Realize that in a culture of fear and censorship you don't actually know how isolated you are. I don't say this to dismiss the isolation you feel; I feel it sometimes too. But what is more likely? That everyone you know believes men can be women, or that people fear the repercussions of speaking out? Related to that, I don't know if you're following the Lia Thomas situation but it seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back regarding men in women's sports. And that's only because someone had the courage to protest, inspiring many others to do the same. Courage begets courage.

-Familiarize yourself with other forums that are critical of trans dogma. I love saidit, but if we lost it, even if only to infiltration, we'd need a new oasis of sanity. I really believe in cultivating decentralization for exactly this reason. Additionally, learn to recognize the common shill tactics that bad actors use to divide communities and drive users away from forums. (This is what I believe happened to s/Lesbians btw)

-Check out James Lindsay's New Discourses podcast (as well as the book he co-authored with the amazing Helen Pluckrose, Cynical Theories). He covers the history and philosophy that got us to where we are today, and for me, just having an understanding of that is comforting.

-Make friends with older people. Reach out to/reconnect with your favorite aunts/uncles/teachers if possible. If you need mental health counseling, seek out older therapists. They will help tether you to reality.

-Watch LGB movies/shows that ignore the trans. There's actually tons of it. Letterboxd is a good resource.

-At the risk of veering off topic, I'll close by saying that we are in a crisis that encompasses much more than the gender insanity. That's some shit luck for us but it also gives us the opportunity to act heroically in whatever ways we can. Every crisis produces heroes. Take pride in that.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I really wish gay rights activists hadn't yoked themselves to the immutability argument. Whether we are born this way or not is an interesting scientific question but it ultimately doesn't serve us politically. The best, simplest argument for equal treatment regardless of sexual orientation is an appeal to (classical) liberalism: if it doesn't hurt anyone or infringe on others' rights, allow it, and if so, don't.

Agreed. I think it's worth noting that gender ideology activism is in conflict with the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 18:

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

I can already hear them screeching, "but that doesn't mean freedom from consequences!", which is wild because that's exactly what it means.

I'm a longtime competitive runner and these stories infuriate me - and I hate to say it but I don't think the sports' governing bodies are going to intervene on our behalf. Why are Twitter and Reddit so out of touch with reality and popular opinion regarding statements of fact about transgender people? by snub-nosedmonkey in LGBDropTheT

[–]soundsituation 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I can't speak to twitter but I'm convinced that reddit is a grooming site. Spend any amount of time in the trans subs and it becomes readily apparent that they're populated--seemingly exclusively--by teenagers, for whom the pedo admins have created an environment censorious of any heresy against queer theory. The isolation resulting from lockdowns and school closures forced people online more, which means more time in echo chambers for reddit's trans userbase and helps explain the steep rise in insanity. Finally, contemporary trans activism is tailor-made for Narcissists, and reddit is a place where they can go and get showered in affirmations and enact/demand retribution against anyone who threatens their fragile self-worth.

I'd accept that if someone was making this statement to deny someones gender identity it could be offensive, but when made clearly as a statement of biological fact the controversy is unwarranted.

As for this, while I have seen some trans people on reddit insist that they literally are the opposite sex, most are hellbent on selling the fiction of "man" and "woman" as social constructs, distinct from male and female, which is why people can usually get away with referring to transwomen as male but will catch a ban for calling them men.

[–]soundsituation 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Radical feminism is mostly synonymous with material feminism, and as such I think it's a stretch to call it an ideology. Off the top of my head their only purely ideological/immaterial position is blank slate-ism, a position I have some sympathy for as a reaction to historical prescriptivism, even though I'm personally skeptical of it.

I don't think you're wrong about queer theory pushing lesbians towards radical feminism, but I don't think it's fair to call it swapping one ideology for another.

Something just occurred to me: the entire trans ideology is predicated on the assumption that one's true identity is innately understood by oneself, and requires no objective/material proof. At the same time, they not only demand external validation of this identity, but many of them, like the OP of this AL thread, have a complete crisis of identity without this external validation. So which is it? Is the truth only knowable to oneself, or does truth require material proof and external consensus? It's such a bizarre and completely contradictory philosophy.

They are trying. They know they don't have any truly empathic or logical arguments so they have to revert to ad hominem attacks of bigotry, white supremacy, etc. It actually is a deconstruction (an attempt at such), not of reality, but of the public perception of certain words. I don't think they'll succeed here, because most people are monosexual, and because most people in general oppose coercive rapist rhetoric.

Last month a closer friend, who had recently come out as lesbian and had never dated a man before went on a tinder date with a guy out of nowhere, ended up going home with him and said it was the best sex she had ever had.

This sounds super fake, and not even just because of the lesbian part. What woman has the best sex of her life with a fucking tinder date? Zero emotional connection, no nuanced knowledge of one another's bodies or likes/dislikes, plus the fact that men in these scenarios tend to not give a fuck about their partner's pleasure. This sounds like bullshit.

Compelling people to use pronouns that don't reflect one's sex isn't setting a boundary, though. Boundaries by definition can only be defensive. The only way way something like this could be truly defensive, self-protective establishment of boundaries would be like if the trans-identified person decided that they wouldn't be friends with someone who didn't use their preferred pronouns. That's completely their prerogative. Compelled speech isn't.

Also, "don't touch me there" isn't analogous to "don't call me that". "Don't touch me there" doesn't necessitate that the person touches you elsewhere; they can just not touch you at all. But "don't call me that" does necessitate that people call you something else.

[Particularly] Lesbians of s/GC: would (could) you date a girl with pro-trans views? Is trans support a red flag in LGB circles? by jjdub7 in GenderCritical

[–]soundsituation 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If we're talking about someone who has really thought through all of this and is still pro-QT, no. I wouldn't respect her, so that's a non-starter. It's not just the magical thinking because I have dated religious women with no problem; it's the failure/unwillingness to see the incredible damage of things like self-ID, child transing and the chilling totalitarianism of the whole movement.

Any strategies for finding the sane pockets of LGB when navigating dating here in the post-homosexual era?

Nobody likes my dating strategy because it entails long stretches of singledom, but I like to get to know people organically (during which time you can assess their views on all kinds of things) before considering them romantically.

“What a waste” by [deleted] in Lesbians

[–]soundsituation 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree with this, as a matter of both principle and practicality. No one owes anyone else any justification for sexual disinterest. Furthermore, I've found that assertive simplicity is also way more effective in getting men to leave you the f alone. When I was going out to bars, what worked for me was just saying, "no thank you", politely and with a smile. I think the kindness helped preclude any potential aggressiveness on their part, but it also fits my personality, so it was a good strategy for me.

I've noticed that a lot of very young women (my younger self included) feel like they have to debate these guys, when really your body and your desires should never be up for debate in the first place.

What's with queer people and entitlement? Why do they always go hand on a hand?

To put it in very simple terms, the current thinking of the far left is that all inequalities are socially constructed. If you are aggrieved and oppressed (but only according to the official rubric of intersectional oppression), it's never a you problem, and always a society problem. There's also the fact that most social media sites reinforce this entitlement, enabling the worst people to make insane demands.

When we drop the T. What's gonna happen to genuinely gender-dysphoric people? by CancelPower in LGBDropTheT

[–]soundsituation 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The wording of this question appears to presume that the current association between LGB and T is benefitting people with genuine gender dysphoria, and I very much disagree with that. But as to the question of how best to help them I think you have to investigate the underlying cause and proceed from there. I suspect that serious cases of gender dysphoria are a form of body dysmorphic disorder, but I don't know that for sure and I'm not sure if anyone does since the current model of "affirmative care" discourages actual research into the phenomenon.

This is hard to believe when you have low self-esteem, but the fact that she hooked up with a guy 40 years her senior only says things about her, not you. It's not like this old guy is universally preferable to you; it was one choice made by one person and says absolutely nothing about your desirability or worth.

She apparently has never had sex with a girl other than in a 3some that involved a man.

Did you know this before you asked her out?

I think therapy will help you with boundaries and with developing a less distorted self-image. As for surviving the pain: I think we never feel more emotionally connected to ourselves than when we're going through shit. Journal, read poetry, watch tragic love stories, listen to Boys for Pele...it might sound like twisting the knife a little bit but it's what works for me. Heartbreak feels horrible but it also makes you feel really alive.

[–]soundsituation 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Fair point, to which I have two responses:

-If someone brings up sex apropos of nothing or even within a philosophical discussion, your point stands. But if we're talking about self-ID laws then I don't think it does, since women's-only spaces/sports weren't segregated on the basis on gender identity/femininity in the first place. They can't say that's invalidating without abandoning their claim that sex ≠ gender.

-More importantly, why should others be obligated to affirm their worldview? I don't owe queer theory my faith any more than I do Christianity or Islam. I can see why they're upset by this, but no one owes them assent. I don't believe what they believe and I don't have to. It's really quite totalitarian to demand otherwise.

(I don't mean to be combative, by the way. I really appreciate your comment because I agree that we need to address their best arguments.)

such shocking discovery, lesbians not liking penis !

I love it when they say we're invalidating trans people and their opposite sex partners by pointing this out. First of all, not really: we're not invalidating them as people or implying they don't deserve basic respect, just saying they aren't homosexual; there's nothing wrong with being bi. And secondly, who gives a shit? Imagine how exhausting it must be to make your mental health contingent upon external validation.

In a word: "validation". Namely, of the AGP's fantasy that he's a woman.

I actually think the AGP is secondary to the untreated NPD. Everyone has fantasies, plenty of which fall outside the norm. But making your sense of self contingent upon others' reinforcement of your self-image is textbook narcissism.

Do you think the queer and trans movement will drive lesbians - particularly young lesbians - into the arms of radical feminists? by SickOfThisShitNow in LGBDropTheT

[–]soundsituation 12 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

It sounds like you're trying to do identity politics in a new way, casting gc hetero women as the oppressors and lesbians as the oppressed. Lesbians make up a small percentage of women, so I wouldn't expect a feminist movement to center their interests. Nor do I see how radical feminism is at all at odds with lesbianism (and no, your ridiculous and antiquated assertions of political lesbianism don't count).

This logic can be taken to ever more ridiculous conclusions. Why limit your attraction to humans? I imagine you love more than bipedalism and opposable thumbs, so why reduce your dating pool to these trivial features?

That's not how any of this works and they know that.

I agree. They know it's a barrier to entry and not the sum total of attraction, but they'd rather play dumb and hope it gaslights a few victims in the process.

In part this is the fallout from intersectionality. When people are demonized for belonging to immutable categories, it's understandable that they would want to distance themselves from those categories. It's not the most courageous response but I do understand it. And in part it is narcissism, especially with the more vocal virtue signalers.

[–]soundsituation 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Really interesting question. I don't know anything about Satanism outside of what you've just posted here, but I can tell you that postmodernism (of which Queer Theory is a modern offshoot) was originally about endless deconstruction and disruption. And I do mean endless: it critiqued everything, which is impractical for activism since activism has to have goals. Based on what you've described it sounds like Satanism has more in common with OG postmodernism, where shaking things up is a goal unto itself and there are no political or even societal aspirations.

Queer Theory is far more moralistic and ambitious. It pursues a specific agenda.

Money is a natural phenomenon and wasn't always controlled by governments, and while it is symbolic, its success or failure isn't exactly determined by majority belief. It's more like, majority trust in a medium of exchange results from that medium possessing a non-arbitrary set of qualities (qualities which have been consistent across time and all manner of civilizations).
