It's called the scientific method, and it does form a "settle" on a conclusion, which you are able to verify with your own experimentation.

For example, I hypothesize if I throw a brick through a pane of glass, the glass will shatter and the brick will fly through.

Testing... ... Yes, yes the brick does break the glass.

Conclusion: throwing a heavy brick through a thin sheet of glass will cause the glass to shatter.

Settled, QED.

brb. I have to do some quick explaining to my neighbor about why his front window is now broken..

Great ideas.

I also had an idea for a reddit plugin, when I first noticed astroturfing, involving an optional opt-in for users, that would enable something like a community generated block-list of accounts that were known to be malicious or paid-shills.

True that..! In seriousness, this is what the federated platforms are doing with the protocol Activity Pub. It allows connections between mastodon, peertube, diaspora, hubzilla, etc. the swarm of connected but independent platforms could influence the web as we move into the next iteration of the internet.

That is hilarious, nice eye spotting the misspelling. I find myself in agreement with your first post as well. I think maybe, the news today compared to before is a lot more sensational and negative, I don't think truthful is a good adjective to describe it either way. The US has lost many local newspapers, so there is also that, but which is a pretty large open niche IMHO
