Handmaidens have the same way of responding to anything.

They will SAY whatever they need to to look like "good allies", to look like they are morally correct. However, their actions will never back it up.

Handmaidens are obsessed with looking good, not with doing any sort of action. It's all optics and superficiality with them.

If all transwomen filled those positions, they would cheer and celebrate... but none of them would actually study with them or look to them as leadership figures. That's because everyone knows, deep down, that transwomen aren't women, and it's absurd to have them try to teach actual women about what their own experiences mean.

I fit that description, and I am absolutely not on the trans-cult train.

I do think that a lot of women wake up to misogyny once they have children - they suddenly realize just how much the deck is stacked against them, and they feel the weight of the expectations put on mothers (and women) that men will never have to deal with.

I also think privilege is a point of intersection - the people who are always online and need something to quibble about for amusement, are definitely privileged.

So maybe you have something there, but I can offer myself as an anecdotal exception.

Pop culture is more and more, fully embracing actual whores. It feels weird to say that, because I so often associate it with people who think all women are inherently sinful, but there's some truth in it.

Most of the women today with the fastest rising incomes are women who are on OnlyFans. I think this is causing a trickle-down effect, where all women and men are beginning to put a price on female sexuality.

There are so many people who frame these women as "smart", "playing men", "getting the bag at all costs", but like, at the end of the day you are getting paid for people to watch you have sex??

You can't untangle the degradation from it and it's sad that these women are the highest earners.

I think you make a great point - in the popular culture's imagination, "strong woman" looks like a stripper. Women are only "strong" insofar as they can be unashamed of how sexual they are. There is no other axis of power given to women in popular imagination.

While women were oppressed for their sexuality, they were also oppressed in other, more pernicious ways - like the lack of cultural respect, the lack of women being able to be anything OTHER THAN a wife/mother or a "whore" (someone paid to be sexual).

It's really common for middle schoolers (!!!) to be writing and consuming pornographic fic, and to also be fully fluent in the descriptive language of BDSM (knowing words for specific dynamics, etc). I think the first pornographic fic I read, I found when I was 12. As I posted elsewhere in thread, I got a habit very quickly, and would read pornographic fanfic every day, often for hours. This lasted until I was about 15 and forced myself to get some hobbies!

This is an amazingly insightful comment and it mirrors my own experiences with slash fiction in my teenage years! You have a level of self-awareness that I do not, and I found myself actually nodding along as I read your analysis.

Thankfully I made myself stop reading addictively when I was 15 or 16 (after a solid 2 years of straight-up, 3 hours a day of reading slash porn addiction) and it seems like my sexuality recovered once I was no longer fantasizing about odd scenarios all the time. I was also very into adversarial relationship dynamics, and reading about characters that hated each other but wanted to fuck each other and then often did, led me to having VERY poor understandings of what consent and communication looked like.

I think it's time for gay people to start going more to ground. Organize with each other through less-public ways. I'm not saying go back in the closet, but when it comes to the spaces where you want to hang out with other gay people only, don't make them accessible to just anyone.

Like maybe having a vetted discord server where it is all people you have met personally, or moderated by someone.

These obnoxious people do it for attention and for a sense of power. If we don't let them in, they can't demand our energy and attention. It sucks that it's come to this; being gay is just a part of who you are. You aren't crazy for wanting to enjoy your sexuality in peace. Your sexuality isn't a political statement.

OF COURSE IT IS.

All this bullshit about "trust the children." Yes, I do trust children .... I trust them to have a surface-level understanding of things and to behave in their self-interest. I also remember how lonely it is to feel like you don't fit into this hugely dysfunctional world, and how desperate I was to get approval from my peers. This was my state of being from the ages of 12 through 18. I do NOT think letting these kids make permanent changes to their bodies, to be rewarded as stunning and brave, is compassionate at all!

That lovebombing is fleeting. They always need more. You see this with older trans people who are online all the time... no matter how much they are validated, it only lasts for that moment. The constant praise and adoration must be repeated eternally, while they grow ever more fragile in their sense of self.

I got shuttled into LGBTQWOKE+ Youtube recently and I watched a video some girl made about a cancelled lesbian tiktoker. She was spouting off all this stuff about how this lesbian had "toxic masculinity" because she wasn't stereotypically feminine, and how she deserved to get cancelled because she seemed too cocky and confident.

She made a 10 minute video pulling up this woman's videos and mocking her. And if that wasn't shitty enough behavior, she was literally mocking her for her lesbianism by saying she was too masculine.

Like, these people are not our friends. They're kids who grew up thinking that LGBTQ+ was nothing but a sparkle party, and now they are actually the ones leading the witch hunts against people who are gay (you know, actually gay, not the palatable kind of gay where you're completely heteronormative and constantly reassure everyone of their validity).

There are too many toxic young ppl who are straight up fascists in the community now. Fuck em.

So how do we live side by side with them if they are obviously not as evolved as women?

Besides the fact that I'm not sure something like that can be meaningfully quantified, my personal strategy has been to focus on getting an education that will permit me to comfortably support myself on one income. I don't plan on marrying a man, because I dislike how so many people/our culture at large begin to assume that he is in charge. I would much rather be alone than be assumed subordinate.

Other than that, I do my best to be cordial and fair to everyone in my life. I try not to make any assumptions about people without cause... however as I mentioned previously, I don't assume that men will behave themselves, and therefore don't make myself vulnerable to them. My ideal outcome in life will be to achieve a level of independence, while still being within society, by remaining unmarried and in charge of my own finances, and I'm hoping that as I achieve that I can meet and network with other women who are the same. I'm hoping me and my friends can be somewhat separate from the "mainstream" without having to live out in the woods alone, lol.

Although, living out in the country on some land also greatly appeals to me. There's a lot of freedom in owning your own land, especially in America - property owner's rights are very robust.

To be fair, I felt the same way when I was younger. I was frustrated with all of the constant negative messaging that was aimed my way. I felt frustrated that anytime something was marked "for women", it immediately meant that it became a space where there were constant discussions about sexual assault/feeling powerless. I was irritated that people never focused on providing constructive advice to women that would make them more capable of defending themselves, and women were never challenged to better themselves.

Then, I got a bit older. I had a few more experiences. I realized a few things.

Stephen Colbert used to be playing a character (who just happened to also be called Stephen Colbert) and I think having the shield of satire/not having to attribute his comedy to HIS personal beliefs is what made him such an incisive and iconoclastic commentator.

Stephen Colbert who now hosts Late Night, is "actually" Stephen Colbert. He no longer has the conceit of being a satire of a pundit, which forces him to personally back everything he says. I think this makes him less able to fully own saying things that others might agree with.

The higher self is not exclusive to men or women, the "higher self" is our "humanity", it is compassion, altruism, goodwill, wisdom. At least, that is my argument.

The "lower self" is selfishness, gluttony, territorialism/possessiveness, sadism, anger, fear, things that are based in the desires that benefit only you rather than desires for that which benefit all.

I personally see all of human life and existence as being a part of this struggle. We are born into it and live it every day. The "higher" and "lower" selves coexist within us and both are trying to drive the car, so to speak. Our choices that we make daily in our attitudes towards ourselves and others, reflect spiritual power that we give to either of those selves. These choices make up the "evolution" that you're speaking of, and I believe it can happen in either direction.

I'm a big believer in the concept of "power corrupts", and try to remember that if someone is given the opportunity to transgress, they are more likely to. I like the Jenny Holzer truism, "Abuse of power should come as no surprise." It's better to assume that someone will fail in their fight against selfish desire, and protect yourself from that eventuality, than to trust them to always have their higher self prevail and make yourself vulnerable.

I think calling all women "the last remaining slave class" is a bit of a reach. There are real slaves around today, and guess what? Forced male labor is a significant part of that. The women who "are expected to clean-eat their way out of it" are not a "slave class", and in my opinion its incredibly offensive and tone-deaf to say so.

What do you mean by 'their humanity'? Do you mean that they are capable of empathy, loyalty, capable of grasping higher-level concepts like honor? This is certainly true... but it doesn't mean that they won't also rape.

I think that a lot of men have a categorizing problem when it comes to women. They desperately want to have sex with women. So, they will bend over backwards to put women into a different category in their mind than men. To them, women just aren't "human". They don't reconcile OUR humanity. We aren't human, we're "women", and that means that depending on our age and marital status, we have a set script that we are to play.

I consider "humanity" to be the parts of our soul that are transcendent. The urge to rape and dominate is rooted in the body. I think the struggle to reconcile the two is a struggle most men have (their "higher" and "lower" selves) and I don't think any woman should ever forget that.

This site works like reddit (because it IS reddit, its reddits old codebase from like 2010 when it used to be opensource). I think maybe this started trending and popped up on the saidit/all page.

Idk though

From what I can tell, it's a startup. Lots of startups have problems like these. I havent downloaded it yet but I'm also giving her the benefit of the doubt when it comes to intentions. She seems like someone who is more tenacious than diplomatic, and it's not unusual for people like that to sometimes have gaffes. I'm not about to trash talk some woman who's building a company from the ground up that I wont support her because when she first started out, she didn't have a PR person and she came off as not nice enough.

Her stance is that the app is intended for female people only. She is upfront that some transwomen will be able to fool the AI, however there is a team of people who will remove accounts that are reported.

So the intention is for a social media app only for biologically female people with the caveat that some people might slip through and have access until they are detected.

After reading her feed on twitter, I am getting the sense that while she may have started as an "inclusive" app, she is now drawing a hard line for the app to be females only.

People can change and grow. I am betting that the abuse she received for even daring to THINK of making a female-only space, peaktransed her hard.

I do not think it is fair or very intelligent to continue to post old, out of date quotes and ignore what she's saying now.

The infuriating rise of anti science behavior in every corner of society. by Bogos in GenderCritical

It seems like 2 different types of people who deny science, though.

  1. Ignorant and distrustul: they feel condescended to by doctors and educated people. They doubt the intentions of the medical and scientific community. They strongly believe in alternative ways of "knowing", such as intuition or traditional folk medicine, and believe that these ways of knowing are just as valid as science.

  2. Overly-accommodating: they are motivated by the desire to not offend anyone. They usually have a sense of guilt about their own privilege, and will defer to any demand made of them that references this guilt. They see the science as irrelevant, with the far more relevant factors being other peoples' feelings and sense of comfort.

These are not the same motivations, and I think that the majority of science-deniers fall into 1 of these categories. Of the two, the second type seem like the most willing to read and think (assuming that people wont be able to see that they are reading and thinking thoughtcrime).

Question: why are men more likely to commit crimes? by sosorreal in GenderCritical

[–]onemoredaydream 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I personally believe that most crime and abuse starts as crime of opportunity, and then if that person gets away with it, they gain the taste of the feeling of power, and they also believe they deserve to act how they wish.

Therefore I dont think crime and abuse is exclusive to men, I think it is unfortunately deep within humans. We counteract it by raising our kids to feel disgust with morally wrong actions, through the stories we tell them and also the behavior we reward/punish.

I think the reason men commit more crimes is because they get more slack in our culture to fuck up. They are raised to be assertive and take what they want. I also think testosterone increases sex drive and decreases their sense of empathy.

[–]onemoredaydream 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think a lot of this happens because our society lacks ritual and respect of the transition children are going through.

We need to honor the process that all children grow through as they leave childhood and become adults.

I dont see any honoring or celebration or acknowledgement in our culture at large... just people sexualizing and mocking teens.

Everyone who is going through a growth phase likes to have their progress noticed and accepted. It's like human culture 101, but we are completely failing each other.

It's the inflexibility of a child, and the desire to neatly sort everyone into "good" or "bad".

SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES ARE NOT PUBLIC UTILITIES.

You can whine about getting banned all you like... but no company is forced to host speech it disagrees with.

I say this as a feminist whose favorite communities got banned from reddit. If they don't like them, they don't have to host them.

You're on this site right now, still speaking your mind. That's because your IP doesnt monitor your speech and restrict your access based on some sort of citizen score.

Support open source, support free speech, but media companies are not under any obligation to provide you a free platform.

I have a question for you about finding random forums (like chan sites and IRCs). How do you find out about them? Do you just lurk? Do you look through postings etc?

I've never gotten good at finding the communities I really love through chan or irc places. How do you fight against the feeling of the overwhelming realization that there are 6 billion people in the world and most of them aren't talking about anything interesting??

Voat just seems full of batshit crazy conspiracy theorists. Casual anti-semitism is a Nope from me. I clicked through just to check it out and came across some anti-jewish dogwhistling in like 2 minutes.

Anti-semitism is like cockroaches... if you see one, you know you've got an infestation. So by that logic that place is CRAWLING with anti-semites. And I honestly just don't want to be a part of that, or read that, or read anything posted by someone like that.
