Hiding things in a morass of chaos is the opposite.

Chaos is having tons of duplicate posts in the /new tab that look like spam, tbh. Just look at the page and how all the duplicates and triplicates make it look

All this triple-posting is really spamming up the /new queue. I think it also causes people to ignore what you're posting because it looks like spam. I tbh don't think it's productive or useful

Hey neil. Should be pretty easy to keep it that way when the admins have zero money incentive to let advertisers on the board.

We have /s/ads for ads, and it doesn't show up on the /home page, it's like a trash box and I delete all ads and tell them to post there instead. And the site as a whole has no ads, even with ad blockers off.

So we're definitely going to keep the corporate feel away for a long time to come.

That's interesting and might be very useful. But at the same time seems very rigid and unforgiving. I think the end result might just be similar to votes on reddit, where the groupthink essentially determines the consensus, because those are the people marking the logical fallacies and so on.

I like your framing of the concept of meta-topics, but I have to wonder if every thread isn't already a meta-topic, if you know what I mean.

Setting the limits of a conversation sounds interesting, but reminds me much of the Overton window, where intense debate is allowed within the window, but things outside the window are effectively taboo and aren't "allowed" to be discussed, and in this way the narrative is kept confined to the status quo.

Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing.

Because a mod controls the flow of information. So if someone is modding tons and tons of subs, they can control a ton of the flow of information (including deleting a ton of stuff). This is one of the major problems reddit had. Just accept the fact that things won't be perfectly organized, because they were never intended to be. Hiding things on tiny subs just guarantees the information will get lost, so it's not benefitical if your purpose is to get the most people to see it.

We'll develop the crossposting system. Please just relax about it in the meantime.

This is the option that needs un-checked if you want to hide it from the front page:

allow this sub to be included in /s/all as well as the default and trending lists

It will probably still show up in your main page because you're a mod. Hope that helps

What do you think Social Media will be like in 10 years and beyond? by Greedeater in AskSaidIt

I think what you said will happen, but I think at the same time a decentralized and peer-hosted web will develop, that cannot be shut down or censored. Then they'll start calling it "the dark web" and try to split the internet in half. Eventually they'll try to make internet in to a controlled medium like TV. I doubt they'll succeed in full though.

Honestly, hopeful optimism has got me no-where.

But has depressive realism/pessimism gotten you anywhere either?

Where are you trying to "get to"? And why? What do you imagine having or doing that you don't already have? What do you imagine that bringing you? If you can answer these questions in a way that's truthful to yourself, you're already way ahead of most people.

The truth is, the world is both fucked, and everything is special and every moment matters and has ripple effects that last forever. Both are simultaneously true, and it's always been that way. IMO to ignore the good OR ignore the bad, is to only see half the picture.

A true realist wouldn't ignore half of what's happening to suit a particular emotion. They would able to see all emotional angles simultaneously, good and bad, because they're all "true", right?

Sure we're all going to die, but we all have to live in the meantime. Your experience can suck, or you can make it not suck, or whatever you want. You can make it not matter, or matter tremendously. It's literally up to your mind's emotional interpretation of sensory data, which ultimately is something we decide. How do you want to pass the time?

My 2 cents
