Yup we've tried very hard to learn from voat's mistakes, because they were supposed to be the chosen one that would save us from reddit and instead it got hijacked by extremists. That's why we initially named the site "antiextremes.com", in reference to avoiding the extremes of both reddit (censorship) and voat (letting extremists take over). It's worked out well so far, especially since our finances are balanced. Voat has $6k/mo in Azure licensing fees alone, before any server or domain costs. That programming choice ended up creating financial conditions that eventually cost them control of the site. Our low costs will keep us from needing that "angel investor" which ensures we can keep going in the direction we've been going for a long time to come.

[–]magnora7 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have the same fear, that Weinstein was just a sacrificial scapegoat, thrown under the bus in a very public way, and then the media pretends the whole thing is over and the rest of the network of abusers escapes untouched by the media or the police. I too wonder where is Ghislaine? Why isn't mossad being held responsible for their agents like Epstein? What about Black Cube who Weinstein hired to put intense pressure on Rose McGoan?

The media is dropping the ball so hard on all this, and it has to be intentional. And I could say the same of the authorities who are supposed to be investigating all this. There are some people working on it in those areas though, it's just a matter of if those voices will be allowed to be heard in a serious way or not by the higher-ups who own the media stations and three-letter agencies and so on. And also if the public will actually pay attention to this type of behavior and call for justice. There's a lot of social dynamics at play, and it's hard to tell what will happen.

Is the bubble finally about to pop? Stocks are extremely overvalued and due for a plunge. Meanwhile gold and cryptos are also going up, indicating people leaving the stock market and looking for other places to store their money. I would not be surprised to see the stock market drop 50%, we're overdue for a correction, and basically federal reserve money going to corporations who buy back their own stocks to keep prices up, is the only thing propping the stock market up at this point.

If you put the graphs on the page in 'logarithmic' mode you can see them flattening off. If this was truly exponential growth, they'd be a straight line in a logarithmic graph. So the fact they're flattening off is a good indicator.

The disparity between the number of deaths in China and the rest of the world is quite drastic. Especially considering it happened during Lunar New Year and all the travel associated with that.

how communist is Cuba? (daily liberties as compared elsewhere, like the US? by Drizzt in AskSaidIt

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good question, but define "communist".

They had Castro as a leader for a long time, in a basic dictatorship. That's pretty communist.

They also have had free public health care, and a super-tight trade embargo, which is why they all drive cars from the 1950s.

Apparently the quality of life is fairly high, and the people are friendly. But it's not exactly a wealthy place by any means.

Under the national constitution, Cuba is a socialist democracy, with the Communist Party of Cuba as the "leading force of society and of the state", although elections are nominally non-partisan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Cuba

So they're run by a party called "The Communist Party of Cuba". That's pretty communist.

But then there's this:

In 2011, "The new economic reforms were introduced, effectively creating a new economic system, referred by some as the "New Cuban Economy". Since then, over 400,000 Cubans have signed up to be entrepreneurs. As of 2012, the government lists 181 official jobs no longer under their control—such as taxi driver, construction worker and shopkeeper.

So it's not super-duper communist. Just mostly communist, I guess? Kind of like China, they're becoming more interested in free trade, but at the same time the Communist party maintains a complete stranglehold over the governmental system and has for decades.

I want to develop saiditcoin as a way for saidit users to tip other saidit users, but it not influence the votes or ranks. Then I also hope to have it be mineable in-the-browser if you want, without downloading anything. This way users can hang out on saidit and mine coins if they enable that.

Then eventually when saiditcoins gain a real-world value, we can begin using them to pay for server fees. Then we're on a whole new level of self-sustainability.

Switzerland halts rollout of 5G over health concerns by salvia_d in conspiracy

[–]magnora7 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

The thing I don't like about 5G is how many more antenna stations are needed, which means your physical proximity to one is much more likely to be close. Power absorbed drops with the inverse square of distance, if you half the distance it quadruples the power that hits your body.

And I've been reading lately that also because of the large number of antennas it can be used to generate physical location maps that can see through walls, even if you don't have a phone or anything! It can use beam-forming for the 5G electromagnetic waves, and scan a 3D area for solidity in real-time, so it can see dense materials vs non-dense materials, and locate movement as well. And it can do that even if you have no electronics on you at all. Like some kind of giant CT scan.

That's a level of invasiveness I'm not comfortable with.

And that's not even mentioning the potential health consequences of adding even more frequencies to the mix. If any of the frequencies have resonance with any molecular bond in the human body, it will cause non-ionizing heating, aka vibration. Just like when you microwave food. The only question is how much is absorbed, and does the absorption outpace the rate at which the heat can dissipate. If the answer is no, then over a long enough time, it can cause burns. This is why people aren't allowed to spend more than 6 hours a day in an MRI machine. There was once a case of a sedated patient having his exposed legs crossed and it created a closed circuit and the inside of his legs melted after a 3-hour MRI scan from absorbing the electromagnetic energy, just like a microwave.

As long as the heat can be easily dissipated it's not a problem. Or if the frequencies are such that they don't interact with the human body much at all, or if they do, the amount of energy absorbed can easily be dissipated quickly as heat. However if there's a slow build-up of heat over the long-term in a way that can't easily be dissipated, then it can cause over-heating which can cause damage or even light burns in the very worst case.

No, not electrical dissipation. Heat dissipation. Once the EMF has been absorbed by the body, it's heat, not voltage. EMF generally does not induce static voltages in the body.

Imagine this: They sell china the bioweapon, requiring it to be in their level 4 lab.

China buys the bioweapon and stores it in that lab in wuhan.

A few months later, whoever sold them the bioweapon releases that same bioweapon right next to the level 4 biolab.

Was it a leak? Was it deliberate? It's impossible to tell, even for China. Also take in to account it targets ACE2 receptors in the lungs, which are more present in males and Asians. So it literally targets Asian males. Why would China develop a bioweapon that targets their own population demographic?

Interesting to think about. Of course it could be a genuine accidental leak as well. It's looking like China is starting to admit it was most likely a human-developed bioweapon though, and not from bats or pangolins. Some in the US gov't are starting to say the same as well.

Agree completely, we have to take the good along with the bad, but still keep our eyes on where we're trying to go. Things aren't so bad, but they could always be better.

I see what you mean and I agree. However at the same time, there are people who have literally given their lives to try and correct this sort of thing. Lots of and lots of people, in fact. And by saying "we don't care" you're dismissing the very hard work and effort that millions have already put in to this, to try and correct it, just because you're not seeing the outcome you prefer. It comes across as a bit dismissive of past struggles, tbh, almost stated as if we've just invented the concept of standing up for morals, haha. That's all I mean.

Because that way it appears they lost by pure chance, rather than it appearing horribly rigged like it is

Threatening to shoot up a school or a family is some serious shit that will get you prison time real quick. Remember Kyle Parramore from /sp/ he did 2 years for the same thing by GROYPES in Ice_Poseidon2

If it wasn't happening, someone rich would make it happen. Power seekers can be bought, and there's always a buyer if the price is low enough. Our democracy has always been for sale. It's the ugly truth.

He didn't drop out. So this news article is basically completely fabricated. I'm removing it since it's not news, it's just a fake satire article and doesn't belong in the /news sub. You can post it elsewhere though, but this sub is for actual news.

Coronavirus "Lab Leakage" Rumors Spreading - China's only Level 4 Biolab in the entire nation was just a few miles away from the first infection, Chinese official agencies are hinting it was potentially a bioweapon that escaped by magnora7 in WorldNews

the second time you catch it is worse since you don't build up an immunity to it really makes you think.

Yes this part is a bit crazy... I've not heard of a disease doing something like that before.

Also the twist about it focusing on the ACE2 receptors, which are more commonly present in the lungs of males, and in Asians.

This disease has all sorts of odd characteristics. I do kind of wonder if someone planted it there from outside of China. Like imagine if the US or someone sold China this bioweapon, and then a few months later caused an outbreak next to the facility with the same bioweapon. China wouldn't know if they did it or someone else did. And the blame can fall neatly on China, with few suspecting anyone outside China as being the cause. Just a theory, but it does make a few part of the story make more sense. It's just as possible it was a genuine leak too though, who knows.
