You ever see stuff like that and have the wind just taken right out of you? You are way more involved than I am. How do you keep from throwing your hands up?

Oh yeah I feel that way a lot. Sometimes you can't help but throw your hands up and walk away. The key is to take a break for a bit (days, or weeks, or months) and then come back to it once you've properly digested the new information. Otherwise you can get permanent burnout if you force yourself, and that's how a lot of those people that are like 50 and don't give a shit at all, become that way.

We're running a marathon, pace yourself. Take breaks and do what you enjoy, there is no shame in it whatsoever, especially if you're doing it to give yourself time to digest new information. Put on your oxygen mask before you help others put on theirs, so to speak.

You're seeing large point drops because the markets are at all time highs but relatively speaking not large percentage drops.

That's true, but it's still noteworthy, I think. They're like the 100th biggest percentage drops or something like that, and to have two so close... doesn't look like a stable market to me. It's just another canary in the coalmine

This is why regulations are problematic. Because the companies that it's supposed to be regulating, capture those regulatory agencies and instead use them to kill any competition and guarantee themselves a monopoly. The idea is good, but in practice it's a corporate-owned nightmare. https://i.imgur.com/PVpFY.jpg

I was seeing some threads about 2 days ago on another site that Epstein had been secretly removed from the country... now those threads are all gone.

I have a hard time believing 1) They let him kill himself, 2) He actually went through with killing himself, and 3) That he wasn't under more intense watch

There's also the obvious motivations of so many people who want him dead... I'm sure they'll sweep this all under the rug though, and instead go with the "disturbed individual" angle now, and the rest of the pedo blackmail network gets away without consequence

And with all the media coverage about how he killed him self and how guards should have known, likely he isn't dead and in Israel somewhere or on a private Island.

I agree with that. But that doesn't mean the guards weren't ALSO distracted at the time. They had to switch out the look-alike body that was found by emts and wheeled out, perhaps. They had to get him out at some point, but it seems like they found a body too

The only reason I think 2 is unlikely, is because in 2007 he got off for about the same as he's in now. So if I were him, I'd have some expectation that I could eventually get out.

Plus if he did it himself, he would've had to have had the means by which to do it, and in max security prisons they don't allow that, especially if he was on suicide watch a week earlier.

Yes I see what you are saying. The options though, are to 1) be open to DDOS attacks, which would certainly cripple the website once people realize it's open. or 2) Have a DDOS service that can view our through-traffic and the site remains up

so it's kind of lose/lose and the less bad option is to have our through traffic be available to cloudflare. There are so many more ways to link this though, like the IP backbone itself is known to be observed. So it's not like they don't have access to this anyway.

So I think all things considered we've done what's best for the site. I appreciate the concern though.

I was at a buffet once and left my phone at the table and when I got back from the buffet my phone was gone. It was stupid of me to leave it there, my mistake. Anyway there were security cameras everywhere. The manager was there, and I told them what happened and wanted to see the security footage and he wouldn't even consider it! Then outside the door there was a policeman standing guard. It was weird. I'm pretty sure that restaurant stole my phone. What's the point of having security cameras if you refuse to look at them when a crime happens?

Hey I've been following your work on github. Looking good. I did notice the banner filesize is enormous at 1MB, we need just a sliver of the height of those banners, 350px height max, because the banner is only so tall and the filesize needs to be as small as possible to reduce load times. However it can be 5000px wide or so, for widescreen monitors and so on.

I also agree with the other user that we should leave the default scroll bar, just for ease-of-use and cross-platform compatibility and such.

Looks good though, I can't wait to have a banner that looks like your original mock ups: https://imgur.com/a/wwOXLW1

[–]magnora7[S] 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The media is designed to dumb us down, so I wouldn't look to it as an indicator of how dumb people are. But I get your point. I think all the smart people are mostly staying quiet because things are so obviously broken as of late they don't know what to do or say, perhaps. Everything's so volatile in US culture lately (because of the inflammatory news media) and people are mostly just avoiding confrontation in their day-to-day lives, I think.

I think a lot of people just feel powerless, and are taking a "wait and see" attitude. But I think instead they should be communicating their ideas online. But it's hard when all the comments and votes are so nonsensical like on reddit, it looks like a madhouse, so why even bother shouting in to the void? That's the feeling the propagandists wish to create in the genuine and thoughtful users, as they go around destroying forums that were previously places of high-level communication. In this way they can control the overton window on the internet, which was previously not possible. By just destroying the opposition, by filling it with cultural garbage. Forcing those websites in to cultural irrelevancy. This is why so many sites have had to disable account creation in the last week or two.
