I know its been discussed before, but I need clarification again - why is Transgender so much different than someone saying they are Transracial? I understood before - gender is not biological, etc. but now with the blurring of biology within this ideology I am confused with this argument.

I don't think it is like A thing, but I have read several accounts of various folks identifying as a culture that is different from the one they were born in, so definitely more than just Rachel Dolezal. Some ppl who are anti-transracial see young girls who are getting tans, braiding their hair, wearing large hoops, and trying to get "thicc" as trying to be transracial too ... so that really ups the number if those young folk are getting included (I don't see that as transracial, but just saying thats an opinion I have read about)

I am actually working my way through it right now! Super interesting and definitely forcing me to think a lot and continue learning and I also wanted to get an idea of what people here think abou it. I have read so many backlashes to this article, and to transracial in general that are either just super weak (ie it sort of offends me as an individual so therefore its wrong) or are the exact same things we are saying and could apply to Transfolk.

I have a couple friends who I think are on the fence due to a couple posts, but I am too scared to ask for fear of losing them ... one other friend who is definitely GC, but more so due to religious leanings than anything, though still very lucky to connect with her. I've been asked what happened in my life to lead to my GC views, as if only some traumatic event could lead to being GC rather than just plain observation, since according to those ppl what I am seeing is really only some small minority that really doesn't have any impact ... sigh ... When GC Reddit got banned I was devestated - l do not normally drink, but that night I went a little crazy and ended up drunkenly writing a 3000 wordish essay on freedom and speech, cancel culture, and SJWish ... Saidit, Spinster, and now Ovarit have been saving graces and help to quell the loneliness I can feel. So, all this to say you are not alone ... seems more and more people are peaking, or waking up, so hopefully the tide is shifting. Sending you lots of pos vibes !

From what I have read, to even question this is to be deemed transphobic, so people are scared to speak up, to denounce anything, as it can lead to loss of employment and other social repercussions and threats. Which is messed up

Up until about 2 years ago or so, I was quite firm in wanting to stand with this ideology because I felt like what could be wrong with wanting to be more inclusive and make sure everyone feels safe and like they can voice their lived experiences without fear of judgement, and live authentically, etc. Then I realised that is not at all what it is about, that only certain lived experiences are deemed valid and should be listened to.

It makes me really sad to see so many people be more or less told to sit down, shut up, and make sure no one hears about it because it doesn't fit neatly into the box that has been created. Your last sentence really is perfectly put.

Same - while I know this might sound cheesy, I just want everyone to be the best version of themselves, live meaningful lives, and live in and out of love. Then I see these ideas being used to justify this movement, wrapping it up as if it is a movement based in love and acceptance while knocking people down to lift themselves up, disavowing ideas that do not align with their narrative, yet still preaching acceptance.

I am lucky that my partner is on the same page, but other than him I feel quite lonely as I am scared to speak my mind with friends and family, because the Kool Aid has been drunk by so many it seems - then I feel guilty because if so many think this way, am I really believing in the right thing, am I the one with skewed views?

I don't think you are being dramatic, these are weird times indeed.

so much this - reading accounts of researchers who are being defunded or blocked in other ways from pursuing or publishing studies that go against the affirmation model plus the psychotherapists who have had their licenses revoked for practicing the watchful waiting method or other practitioners who just go along with the affirmation based model for fear of consequences is terrifying and is really what has peaked me to the point of no return.

it does indeed, but I have seen stats for all sorts of figures including and in between those two numbers ... I think the 1.7% might include some Intersex conditions, since for some reason TRAs and some accompnying research love to include Intersex as part of the trans umbrella ...

Thank you for sharing your story - I cannot imagine what you have been through.

As I have been exploring this and reading and watching as many detransition stories as I can, I have felt such anger towards the transcult and the power they wield to shut down and devalue voices like your own.

It is a bizarre way to live, to push so hard for inclusion and the importance of lived experiences yet at the same time shun those who are struggling and create an atmosphere of fear to share experiences.

Thanks for pointing this out and for the additional points of research.

Any research to anything that questions the affirmation model seems to be deemed transphobic and shut down. Worrying and does not seem to have actual best interest in mind. Breaks my heart knowing young women (and men) are receiving irreversible surgeries being fully supported without any questioing.

I was stunned when I read about the lack of follow up with patients, really shows the lack of actual care for people, in my opinion anyways.

Welcome instantlymidnight. I cannot begin to imagine what your journey has been like. I am happy you are reaching out, it is a big step to take.

As someone else has mentioned, be gentle with yourself. Your journey is yours. Healing from trauma takes time - make sure you do things that feel good to you, whether its going for walks, reading good books, watching a funny movie, practicing yoga, meditating, or whatever it may be. Nurture your soul. Writing is also really helpful, whether its just free writing or specfic topics.

Books that have helped me in embracing my own relationship to Womanhood are Red Moon and Wild Power - both are on the topic of Menstruality. I am not sure if this is something you are looking for, however.

If you are looking for circles, there are a lot of online women's groups, circles, and sisterships/sisterhoods; while they are not necessarily detransitioner specific, they are woman specific and you would be more than welcome in those spaces.

You are love. Your voice is important. YOU are important.

My bad - I am so used to seeing the headings of these inclusive "information" infographics/pamphlets, etc. which says gendered language that I sometimes end up conflating the two ... thanks for pointing it out!

I heard about Freddy McConnell, didn't realise that they had ruled against "father" ... that case is a really important one in seeing some of the weird logic used by TRAs.

Definitey a reasonable compromise, but, like you said, compromise does not seem to be accepted on any terms by many TRAs.

Exactly. I do think some people are dysphoric for sure and I cannot imagine how hard that is ... but I cannot help but question those who are still somehow okay with female body functions. It is sad that we support identifying out of being a woman more than breaking down the constraints that leave women feeling like who they are is not "womanly enough" whatever that means.

I cannot imagine what you must be feeling - it is reducing us to our most basic functions.

I am Canadian, but have been abroad all over the place for a few years now so am unsure, but some people I know in Canada who are interested in or are in women's health, including doula work, are all about inclusive language ... even moving from "women's health clinics" to "family health practices" so as to ensure "all pregnant people" and "all people with periods" feel welcome ... not sure if it is as widespread in US ... I have a background in Education and it is deeply rooted in all aspects of education from kindergarten to post-secondary in Canada I hope to be a doula one day and want to work in women-centered care on many levels, but this movement is scaring me away as I am sure I would be in deep trouble for being "exclusive"

I hope you are able to find woman centered care as you journey into Motherhood
