as a lesbian, if I was in a bar and saw a man there, it would ruin the mood. even if he was just drinking with his friends and not hitting on anyone. the vast majority of females have learned to police themselves around all men. there are plenty of straight bars that you could go to, but lesbian bars are very rare and you should respect those spaces

imagine shaming lesbians for not caving to the pressure of heteronormativy. when I realized I was a lesbian I was super relieved that I'd never have to be with men, so I find it comical that I'm being villianized for it. of course I have nothing against women who slept with men before they realized they were lesbians. I'm just happy and grateful that i never had those horrible experiences and I wish no lesbians would ever be pressured into sleeping with men

before I came out, i was in a cult forced to dress according to the rules of skirts, very modest and feminine etc. when i came out as a lesbian i obviously couldn't stay in my community, so I moved out and obviously started dresses very differently to the way I'd been forced to all my life. and I naturally gravitated towards butch clothes because due to my upbringing I wasn't used to wearing revealing clothes and butch clothes tend to cover more of your body

but idk why I even have to explain to other lesbians why I dress the way I do, this is what makes me happy and comfortable, and plenty of women find it attractive. but go ahead and judge other lesbians on how they dress and go shit on centuries of lesbian history. it's okay to be lesbian, but it's not okay to look too lesbian? you're not being any better than my homophobic family members

my problem is that when a straight girl wears combat boots or short hair shes cool and quirky and when a straight guy wears that hes normal. but when I do it, I'm trying too hard. I can't catch a break from anyone.

and yes I do think that we shouldn't have a narrow idea of what it means to look like a lesbian, but guess what, some woman, regardless of their orientation, are assumed to be lesbian from the way they dress, and I don't think its productive to deny it. we can work on dismantling stereotypes without denying their existence

However I am quick to defend myself out in public against potential sexual predators. If a man approaches me at night and I sense something is off, I will immediately start yelling really loudly and flipping him off. Even of hes not a predator and hes just asking for directions, that's the reaction a man should expect when approaching a young women at night. Better safe than sorry
