This is basically my opinion as well. I think adults should be free to choose to transition if that is what they determine to be the best for them. However, I feel that due to the fact that most who experience gender dysphoria grow out of it and go on to live happy lives as homosexuals that if society was more accepting of gender nonconformity there would be less people who feel the need to transition, and that would ultimately be ideal. Also by gender I obviously mean the two, male and female, in general all the non binary stuff feels like attention seeking.

It makes me feel so bad for young kids growing up through this. Canada successfully banned "conversion therapy" and it was made it out to be that they banned homosexual to heterosexual conversion therapy. What they actually did was make it impossible for legitimate therapists to help homosexual kids come to terms with themselves, creating a homosexual to transgender conversion therapy because the only thing a therapist can do is affirm their patients feelings. It is so fucking backwards and you cant even describe it to people without being talked down for being a bigot.

Pretty sure I've said this to you before, but you need some straight friends dude.

I think people could just as easily point at the flamboyant gay culture, specifically gay men, as the reason behind the trans and non binary craziness. To be fair its a very small percentage of gay men that turned things like gay pride into the weird kink sex fest they are today. But it definitely isn't straight people in the LGBT communities advocating for gender fluid nonsense.

Differenr identify politics isn't going to fix the issue you are having with a specific type of identity politics. Its all the same shit. Keep blaming heterosexuals and bisexuals all you want, keep getting upset that lesbians supposedly abandoned you, but its not going to help you at all.

I agree with you that gender is the issue , and I think it's slowly getting better. I don't know how old you are, but the way you talk about men being scared of being seen as feminine makes me think you're a baby boomer from a conservative part of North America. I'm a millenial and I'd say the vast majority of my friends, 95 percent, are completely fine with doing whatever traditionally feminine thing you think is so troubling to us.

It also seems to me the trans craze is just as much a gay issue as it is a straight one. Affirmation therapy could legitimately be called a form of gay conversion therapy. Homosexuals are more likely to experience gender dysphoria than heterosexuals are, and the current rhetoric is set up to encourage transitioning at that point.

I've been tossing this around in my head for a couple days so I'll throw it out cause it fits.

Our culture, by and large has moved steadily into a mode of having things rather than being something. We have been lead to believe that our happiness can be achieved through having the right stuff, buying the right things, watching the right shows on Netflix. And this extends onto romance as well, we are lonely and desire sex and seek out casual sex on apps like Tinder. It's in the words we use as well if you pay attention, we HAVE sex, but are IN love. Modern people stitch together an identity through the things that we consume. Having things and consuming things depends on other parties, you need someone to sell you things, you need someone else to have sex with. But because my love for my wife is in a sense a way of being, a part of who I am, it is dependent on no one, not even her.

Enter the trans genderqueer non-binary ideology. Being a member in these groups seems to very much something people HAVE. Pronouns are something people have. They create their identity solely through this ideology. They get incredibly upset and cry violence when someone denies their identity, because unlike having a nice car or favourite Netflix show, if I deny that their identity is "valid" in some sense they not longer have it.

That is very different than gay or straight people, and I'd include based transwomen and transmen as well. If someone wants to tell me I am not straight it has no value, because being straight is something I am, not something I have. It is not dependent on anyone else or anything.

I think you are kind of right. And I hate that. I'm a fairly liberal dude in my early 30s and growing up there was little in the way of overt racism or homophobia, or bigotry of any kind among my peers. I just assumed that everyone would figure it out eventually. That has all been flipped on its head now.

[–]latuspod 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not part of the "community" so it isnt really for me to say but I can help but feel that non binary people are mostly looking to be special. Queer Theory has done a good job of of making non-normavity sacrosanct, and that has resulted in people going out of their ways to show upward unique they are, ironically by adopting views and beliefs that everyone else who buys into the ideology also believe.

I think of there are some genuine non binary people who arent doing it for attention they are doing it because they have backwards ideas about what it is to be a man or woman and they feel they dont live up to those ideals. I think that is dumb and wrong. A feminine gay man is just as much of a man so the most masculine straight man out there, and the same for women.

I'd really just love it if everyone could be happy being who they are, I feel non binary people are lost and confused.

I really agree. I am not saying that misandry is more common than misogyny, but misandry is a lot more acceptable to today's society. A lot of it comes in the form of a "you go girl" attitude. But it is quite acceptable in most circumstances to imply that men are dumber than women, or inferior somehow because of "tiny chromasomes". Whereas a man can not even state biological truths without being called sexist.

There are definitely MRAs that are also TRAs. Left leaning MRAs were very against the Vancouver Rape Relief excluding trans women. They saw it as women demonizing men, and making men all out to be inherently violent.

I looked into MRA stuff a few years ago, after watching Red Pill by Cassie Jaye, and seriously contemplating divorce which is extremely prejudiced against men. It was the leftist non sense that turned me away from it. It isn't really one thing there is leftist MRAs and alt-right MRAs, and a small few liberal and rational MRAs. Most vocal MRAs have the same problem as most vocal feminists, they are completely self-absorbed.

I don't know that they blame it on you, the gender identity people seem to like their own absurdity.

And perhaps those people who explore in that manner were never actually straight.

You also have the added confusion, coming in a few years, of people raising gender neutral kids. There will probably be an increase in confused hetero and homosexuals. But it has nothing to do with gay people, and everything to do with queer theory and gender identity.

Not knowing what's going on is exactly what they want. They choose an innocuous name like BLM so that if you dont support it they can say you are racist for not agreeing with everything they say. Then you add in that there are like 4 or 5 entities or ways that BLM is being used it's really easy for them to pull the bait and switch. Also facts now take a backseat to feelings and emotions. Facts are a form of epistemic violence.

Men undoubtedly are more violent there is no denying that. The solution to that is something that Peterson talks about quite a bit, socializing boys properly. They need proper outlets to vent and learn how to deal with their aggression, they need rough and tumble play. Young boys crave it, that is why they are pushing, and wrestling with their friends, or playing sports with the full omtemt of winning. But these are things that generally fall into the toxic masculinity and the "boys will be boys" trope. I have two young boys and have had some of their teachers praise their passivity and gentleness in gym class and others bemoan their competitive nature. I have gotten the feeling talking to all my kids teachers that the ideal little boy in elementary school would basically be a sterotypical girl. Of course it doesnt help that their are virtually no male elementary school teachers. It also doesnt help that kids are less active nowadays, both at home and at school.

As for the suicide, yes women attempt more, with less lethal means, and sometimes those are cries for help rather than a suicide attempt. My sister has done so twice, swallow a bunch of pills and then immediately call 911. There are also numerous accidents that men get into that look suspiciously like suicide. I for years tried to think of a way I could do so, make it look like am accident, so my wife could collect on my life insurance so she wouldn't have to worry about finances while raising our kids. But I really dont want to get into whataboutism about depression and suicide because it is shitty all the time and is something a lot of people struggle with regardless of gender.

I more so wanted to point out that a few men's behaviour is not indicative of all men. And I also dont think the solution to men or societies problem is to have men behave more like women. We as a society have work to do to liberate both genders, and I think in general society is choosing to focus on the wrong things.

Most people in Canada aren't aware, they generally accept the media spin that being concerned about puberty blockers and hormones means you are a transphobe. They dont get that the ban on conversion therapy actually creates conversion therapy. I think most people just want to be inclusive and have everyone be happy, the media and politicians blatantly lie about the issue though.

However, I would say most of my blue collar friends don't fall for the non sense. I think not going to university is beneficial in that regard.

Public bathrooms are public, creepy people exist, what bathroom they use doesn't make a bit of difference to me.

A transwoman who reasonably passes should be able to use the women's bathroom if that's where they are most comfortable, or vice versa.

This really seems to be about labels more than anything. And it is complicated by the fact that sexial orientation is a thing, and sexual preferences are another thing on top of that.

Is bisexuality anything that isn't 100 percent heterosexual or homosexual? That makes sense really. But sexual preferences make that increasingly complicated. It could be that men who are attracted to transwomen are bisexual, but not attracted to typical men at all, or it could be some internalized homophobia. Now I wouldn't call either of those things straight, but it makes sense that that person would want to identify as such.

When I look at this besides the utter bullshit and lunacy that it is, what I see is something that is so deeply nefarious. Because this was created by someone, produced as something to be shared to educate people. But what it is doing is the opposite of education, it is making things less clear, more ambiguous, and confusing. And that is their entire goal, the more confusing they can make all the gender bullshit the more people will rely on these gurus to share their special knowledge.

There also is the complete redefinition of mental health issues. If they can redefine mental health issues as something everyone experiences it makes it easier to cast away therapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

Two plus two is already five for these people, they just need to work their way into forcing the rest of society to believe it as well.

The moment one of my kids says something ridiculous like asking if I am going to rape them would be a breaking point. No TV, video games, cell phone, internet, until they figure it out. I'd hook some therapy with a real therapist. I wouldn't kick them out, because that would feed into the narrative, but if they didn't quit the bullshit I'd be recording every single interaction as a back up.

I'd like to think I am a good enough parent that my kids won't be like this, but my kids are at the age now where I am starting to realize that their friends and peer group have more influence than I do and outbursts like this arent a fair representation of a parents ability.

Pretty sure it started in Canada. The term is new, came about in the 90's in English and then was translated back into some Native languages. The term is somewhat problematic at times because in a way it homogenizes the different cultures and traditions within different tribes. And Canada atleast was pretty brutal in stamping out Native culture and heritage to the point where it is difficult to recover. Post-colonial theory (also started in Canada) has also made a mess of it all in a different way.

So the split attraction model is batshit crazy, but essentially who you are attracted to sexually can be different than who you are attracted to romantically. You could be a heterosexual biromantic, or a bisexual heteroromantic. Or any other combination, that makes you feel the most special. I would guess that a straight gay is either heterosexual homoromantic or homosexual heteroromantic.

They create language pretending that it is making things more clear, but it really does the opposite.

I dont doubt that could do so id forced and ejaculate and all that, but I wouldnt enjoy it, I wouldn't feel good about it afterwards. I have thought about this quite a bit, in part from hearing the rhetoric that OP asked about, I don't think many heterosexuals think about or contemplate their sexuality very much. Which results in them just buying into these concepts when they hear them.

Body dysmorphia has nothing to do with changing your gender. I am pretty sure it is involved in anorexia. I am a hairy dude and it caused a bit of embarrassment and self hate when I was a teen, not body dysmorphia, but all sorts of men have procedures to remove body hair to better represent societies opinion of an ideal man. Less drastic than what trans and non binary people have to do but still.

I am pretty sure the guys injecting themselves with synthol would suffer from body dysmorphia.
