I don't know....being ignored sends a very strong message. While an insightful post may get buried and therefore ignored from time to time, hate filled rancid posts that are ignored will go away and not be plastered on the front page.

Not downvoting forces you to engage in meaningful debate or it shows ambivalence. Maybe that can help divide and conquer techniques falter a bit. If you don't feed the stray cats in your neighborhood, they will look elsewhere for food.

She's going about this all wrong. She needs to simply state that she identifies as president. Then, we would all have to accept her as president or be culturally insensitive jerks. It's socially not allowed to be so insensitive, therefore she would gain the consensus because we would all recognize her as president.

Reddit pulls a YouTube - /r/911truth quarantined as misinformation, government info added by d3rr in MeanwhileOnReddit

All are quarantined due to shocking or highly offensive content....except 9/11truth. (For the real story, go to the 9-11 commission's official page. Thanks admins of reddit, but I don't think the real story is there.)

I downloaded the official mobile app. When I search for r/911truth it does not come up. Other subs with similar names do. Even the relevant post list doesn't have one link from the original site (but I may have missed it, still need more caffeine).

Just a side thought, could this be detrimental to reddit alternatives? This move is likely to flood alt sites with a lot of racist crap. Can definitely see mainstream touting the integrity of reddit while showing the alternatives as platforms for hate.

Something I thought of while listening: The way I understand asphyxia, after about 3 minutes a person loses consciousness. When a person loses consciousness, every muscle relaxes and goes absolutely limp. There have been cases in which a person is alone and choking on something, passes out, muscle relaxation will cause the obstructing object to dislodge (if it is not wedged), and they wake up breathing on the floor. Wouldn't suicide using a doorknob to asphyxiate require a constant force to obstruct the airway? At some point the victim would pass out before death, removing that force. I don't have any idea how it was set up but thought I would throw that out there.

Anyway, awesome interview!

She was supposedly in touch with Kappy because they both were investigating some of the same things.

Here is a link to some info on her, and some of the things she and Kappy were working on. It also links the video THC responds to (I didn't want to post it directly because I haven't watched it, and Carlwood was pretty shook up about it and her death). No mention of how she died in the little searching I've done.

Haven't read the article yet but was thinking....last year I bought a new car. I've never owned a brand new car, I had a 2006 prior but it was costing more to upkeep than it was worth so I traded it. My old car had no bluetooth or any type of connections, but my new car has all the state of the art type stuff. I thought it was odd though that I can't turn off the radio. I can mute it, but it is always on. Meaning, it is always streaming something since I have xm and I usually link my phone. It maybe nothing, but does anyone find it odd that on newer vehicles we can't completely disconnect with a push of a button? I did some cursory searching and you can disconnect by disabling some wiring, but it is troublesome, at least a bit.

Maybe I am paranoid, I don't know. But I do leave all electronics behind when I run, walk the dogs, or go into stores.

I think this decision probably caused a lot of distress for you and u/d3rr.

It's a little like the laws in place that hold restaurant owners responsible for patrons that drink, drive, and cause injury to others (and themselves). While the owner may not force the customer to drink or the bartender to serve them, the owner can still face charges for the injury inflicted by that customer because they provided the venue. Fair? Not really, but if your name is on the building you have to cover your ass, or find another profession.

If someone out there uses the grey market in a way that results in any harm, this venue will go down. And unfortunately, some “someone” always does in these kind of situations, eventually. While striving to provide a censorship free platform, you can't leave the door open to possible future litigation, otherwise your message will be totally lost. Say the site becomes successful and exposes news and truth that may not be positive towards those in positions of power, it would be too easy for them to shut it down and shut it up.

I think it stinks that the world operates like this, but this is the world we live in at the moment. I support your decision, and would do the same.

What are we even doing? by magnora7 in CriticalThoughts

[–]i_cansmellthat 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

And I mean that, you are a free to choose as you wish, and that's one of the craziest things about this whole existence. We have all these choices we didn't even realize we had, because we never took the time to stop playing the mini-games we were fixated on, and just step back and re-evaluate things as a whole.

A couple of weeks ago, my nephew was complaining about his friend to me. He is 11, and while with a group of friends he had shot a video of one of them acting loud and crazy, like most 11 year old boys act. He had posted the vid on his youtube channel with his friends permission, but the next day his friend was adamant he take it down. His complaint to me was, "He is making me take it down." My reaction was close to anger at him, I told him no one can make you do anything. Leave it up, take it down, don't wear pants today, whatever. You always have a choice, some choices have consequences. Take it down because you choose to, not because you are forced to. I feel like what you said there echoed our conversation (in a way) in that many people feel they have to do something this way or that, when in fact they have way more control than they think.

Great write up, thought about it quite a bit since first reading it.

[–]i_cansmellthat[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, I understand this proposed bill is prohibiting funds, not speech or study. But doesn't science seek truth, and in so shouldn't a scientific claim seek information from all sides, especially when policy is being decided on a new frontier? By excluding funded study, they are excluding research that could produce possible solutions. Instead they are taking a side and shutting opposing views out. No matter where one stands in the debate, this bill doesn't seek truth.
