TIL: The CIA can remote-control cars and cause "accidents" suspiciously similar to dozens experienced by the establishment's political enemies. by HibikiBlack in conspiracy

Haven't read the article yet but was thinking....last year I bought a new car. I've never owned a brand new car, I had a 2006 prior but it was costing more to upkeep than it was worth so I traded it. My old car had no bluetooth or any type of connections, but my new car has all the state of the art type stuff. I thought it was odd though that I can't turn off the radio. I can mute it, but it is always on. Meaning, it is always streaming something since I have xm and I usually link my phone. It maybe nothing, but does anyone find it odd that on newer vehicles we can't completely disconnect with a push of a button? I did some cursory searching and you can disconnect by disabling some wiring, but it is troublesome, at least a bit.

Maybe I am paranoid, I don't know. But I do leave all electronics behind when I run, walk the dogs, or go into stores.

Vox Advocates Drugging the Water Supply by Orangutan in Health

So the vox article states: "But it’s also an element that occurs naturally all over the Earth’s crust — including in bodies of water."

According to the wiki on lithium, "It never occurs freely in nature, but only in (usually ionic) compounds, such as pegmatitic minerals which were once the main source of lithium. Due to its solubility as an ion, it is present in ocean water and is commonly obtained from brines."

I'm not a chemist, but isn't there some contradiction there?

If it ever does start to be seriously considered, we should start a group to advocate that lithium be available over the counter. After all, the ingestion rate would be unregulated so therefore dosage should not have to be regulated by a physician.

After Bernie got cheated in 2016 I can no longer convince myself that voting in fraudulent phony corporate elections matters. Thoughts? Are you voting? by EndlessSunflowers in WayOfTheBern

[–]i_cansmellthat 2 insightful - 1 funny2 insightful - 0 funny3 insightful - 1 funny -  (0 children)

Not voting this year. Recently moved to a different state and dropped the ball getting registered, but it wasn't high on the priority list, sadly.

I read this post yesterday and didn't have much to add other than what others said about voting third party. But I thought of it this morning after seeing a local candidate (at least I think) holding a sign while standing on the corner of an intersection. He was dressed in a nice suit with a few onlookers around him and had a huge, fake smile. Felt like one of those kids in elementary school who would say, "I'll be your best friend if you let me have your cookie." You know, the one who doesn't really talk to you unless you have a cookie. I know voting means more in local elections, but I just have negative feelings about politicians of any sort these days.

Hillary Clinton Returns: ‘I’d Like to Be President’ by useless_aether in politics

She's going about this all wrong. She needs to simply state that she identifies as president. Then, we would all have to accept her as president or be culturally insensitive jerks. It's socially not allowed to be so insensitive, therefore she would gain the consensus because we would all recognize her as president.

A startup’s bold plan for a mood-predicting smartphone app is shadowed by questions over evidence by i_cansmellthat in Health

For people with no mental health issues, it provides no value at all. I can see it being harmful actually, like reading webmd and saying, "Yeah, I have that, and that..."

Apparently some mental health professionals see value. Maybe I'm being overly skeptical, but we already have a large percentage of people that have outsourced their own thoughts and beliefs. Just seems this will further that along.

While this may or may not be coming to a smart phone near you, the implications are a bit unsettling. This app, if successful, will predict if your emotional state is changing and how you will feel next week, according to the researchers involved. So, an individual is going to willingly surrender more personal data and privacy for better mental health. Sounds like a big win for the drug makers and the surveillance state to me.

Wouldn't this be a self fulfilling prophecy? If you tell me I'm going to be severely depressed next week, and I believe in this app, will I make choices that will in turn render me depressed?

Jeff Bezos has invested in this, and don't forget he is also getting into the healthcare business as well.

Some High Schools now requiring clear backpacks? by magnora7 in privacy

[–]i_cansmellthat 3 insightful - 1 funny3 insightful - 0 funny4 insightful - 1 funny -  (0 children)

I agree, this is conditioning an upcoming generation to trade their rights for safety. Combine this with locker searches and the kids think they have no right to privacy, privacy is dangerous and those that desire it must have something to hide.

There seems to be an uptick of this after school shootings, or after threats are made to schools. Sometimes the students vote it in, or the school board will. And it's not just high school students, some elementary schools have made it mandatory as well.

"The Lawyers' Committee, along with some 9/11 family members and survivors, have exercised our constitutional and statutory rights to petition the Department of Justice to present evidence of 9/11 crimes...crimes that have never been investigated or prosecuted, to a special federal grand jury."

Lots of information on investigations, and resources on how to get more info as well as spreading this to others. They have followed through on the petition, and looks like most recently they filed an amended petition on July 30th, 2018.

All are quarantined due to shocking or highly offensive content....except 9/11truth. (For the real story, go to the 9-11 commission's official page. Thanks admins of reddit, but I don't think the real story is there.)

I downloaded the official mobile app. When I search for r/911truth it does not come up. Other subs with similar names do. Even the relevant post list doesn't have one link from the original site (but I may have missed it, still need more caffeine).

Just a side thought, could this be detrimental to reddit alternatives? This move is likely to flood alt sites with a lot of racist crap. Can definitely see mainstream touting the integrity of reddit while showing the alternatives as platforms for hate.

There's a comment here saying that the quarantined subs are now only viewable on desktop. Haven't checked if it's true, but that seems big. I'm guessing that a large number of users are not on desktops as much as their phones.
