More and more things have been like that from the left lately. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian recently resigned from Reddit requesting to be replaced by a black candidate, which is explicit discrimination, and Reddit recently explicitly allowed hate speech only against "majority" groups before later backtracking to more vague rules. A lot of the left is becoming very racist, and I hate that.

Edit: And also, BLM Toronto leader believes white people are sub-human, calls them 'genetic defects'.

I have already been using DuckDuckGo for years now, but this just solidifies my stance against Google search even more. It not only tracks you, but the results it gives are censored to be less useful too. This will be good ammo the next time I find someone still using Google.

I've never completely left anywhere, but I am avoiding Reddit more since I and others have been getting more and more arbitrary bans. The discussion there is also much less mature, with more ad-hominem attacks and similar.

I'm actually going on Twitter more than before, but still avoid it for the same reason I always have: The tiny character limit.

I never went on Facebook and avoid Quora because of the real name policies, since I really hate using my legal name, which I have never been called even by my parents!

I believe this type of post is exactly what /u/Jesus is talking about -_- .

/u/Jesus has been here since the beginning, for longer than me, and for much longer than you. I think they have a pretty good perspective on the quality of posts on this site. And, the tone I'm reading from their posts seems to be more of a tone of disappointment than a tone of rage, because this site was really good in the past, and is now arguably lowering in quality due to the types of issues they are writing about.

I'm pretty happy that now we have more non-conspiracy content, but the ad-hominem is definitely an issue. Perhaps we are in need of a bit more moderation in regards to that (since dragging discussion down the pyramid of debate is one of the few things that is actually against the rules on this site).

One thing I've been grateful for for a long time is my nice, powerful, home-built computer. It is so much better than my old 2007 barely functional MacBook 3,1, and getting it was, well, a huge increase in the quality of my life! No longer do I have a computer so bad that even people with terrible computers have it far better than me. To this day, it still feels blazingly fast, and serves me oh-so-reliably! I am also grateful for the power and internet that allows me to continuously run servers on it; I wasn't able to for a while and it is so, so much less terrible now! My dream, for years, was to get a decent computer, and now I have one. Now all that's left is my dream of self-sufficiency and creating an IP-free gift economy, but other than that, I have nearly everything I could ever want!

I am also grateful that SaidIt exists. Thank you /u/Magnora7 and /u/d3rr for creating this, and thank you, everyone, for the amazing community with lots of tact :D !

[–]happysmash27 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I hate Cloudflare. I have to constantly fill out captchas when I browse over Tor for more and more sites, and they promote search engine monopolies too. It's too bad SaidIt has so many DDOS attacks, because otherwise it would be much easier for it to avoid it (SaidIt also uses Cloudflare). I'm really glad more resistance is building against it, though, because it does many things that I really dislike.

There is no way to solve the captcha without enabling Javascript and Cookies.

Actually, Google's Recaptcha used to work fine without Javascript, and often even worked a bit better. But now they've switched to HCaptcha, and I need to keep enabling it again.

Tor users and VPN users are also a victim of Cloudflare.

I am a Tor user on desktop and, as mentioned above, I am constantly plagued with captchas all the time the more sites use Cloudflare. Worse, some sites are broken even after filling out the captcha, since their assets are locked behind another Cloudflare-protected domain, meaning I must go to the assets manually to fill out even more captchas to get access to them.

My VPN, AzireVPN, always works fine though. I believe this is because it is smaller than a lot of the bigger VPNs, which is one of the main reasons I chose it. At the time I switched, it was also not blocked by the Great Chinese Firewall.

However, it is not viable for me to stay on my VPN on my main computer, since if I put it on system-wide, none of my websites are accessible, but if I use network namespaces to use only my browser through it (which is a pain to set up in the first place), my audio will not work, since Pulseaudio is running in a different network namespace.

Thank you for this article, by the way. Now I have even more ammo against Cloudflare.

Reminds me of appeasement with the Nazis.

Not to say BLM are like the Nazis, of course; one could say one is like Hitler because they drink water and Hitler also drank water and it would be about as valid… but in this specific aspect of appeasement I think a similarity may be able to be drawn, assuming this fire was actually caused by BLM rioters and is not just coincidental.

I support some of this, like making things non-gendered, but other replacements, like for whitelist/blacklist and for "grandfathered", seem pretty silly. I don't mind them, per say; I just think they are completely unnecessary, as I know no one offended by any of them, and therefore rather silly.

TBH, I mostly just dislike it when people act like saying "all lives matter" discounts black lives.

Saying "save the ocean" doesn't mean "don't save the whales". It means "save the ocean including the whales".

I like being inclusive and I like being pedantic about language, using gender-neutral pronouns, and using "trunk" for the main git repository instead of "master". I should be able to include everyone without being associated with white supremacy.

And even on to "save the whales", sometimes that does lead to people disproportionately paying attention to the whales instead of the other creatures, though a better example would be "save the pandas". People often disproportionately pay attention to cute or interesting endangered animals like pandas or tigers, while ignoring saving other species that might be easier and more practical to save. The latter point about other species being easier/more practical to save has nothing to do with BLM/ALM, but the point is that sometimes paying attention to one part of the picture specifically, brings attention away from the full thing, paying attention to one animal instead of the entire ecosystem. We need to end discrimination and police brutality, and these don't only happen with black people. Perhaps we can start with the latter, as it seems to be the bigger issue lately and is easier to define, IMO.

PS: Despite somewhat disagreeing with the point, I'm still up-insightfuling your post anyway, as I do think it contributes to discussion in a site which is otherwise biased against BLM. Whichever community I am in, I like seeing the viewpoints which are underrepresented in it.

Perhaps there is a bit of a bias against liberalism, though, since non-liberals are more likely to be censored and therefore seek out an uncensored alternatives to other sites, while liberals are less likely to be censored and do the same.

The way I read it:

Blue = Jewish

Red = Non-Jewish European

Green = African

I think this is the case, because there are ideologies that view each of these groups exactly the same as the blue, red, and green groups in the hypothetical.

I am not from that ideology, so my question is why the Blue group would want to concentrate more power in Blue people in the first place. And if this really is a genetic-level thing, how does it account for Blue people that don't agree with the Blue agenda, or who don't know about it?

I also don't necessarily agree with the claims on intelligence, if this theory that the colours are based on race is correct. One's environment can affect intelligence a lot, especially if one does not have enough food in childhood, so if there are disparities in intelligence between groups, it may also be based on disparities in environment or even epigenetics that diminish in effect over time if the environment is continuously good, therefore be nullified when groups are mixed together enough, and have the same pro-intelligence environment for long periods of time.

[–]happysmash27 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by pedo content.

If you are talking about opinion pieces related to it, I think those should stay, as the ability to voice my opinion freely about this is a mojor reason I like this site so much.

If you are talking about actual child pornography being posted, of course that should not be posted, because that is illegal, could get the site in trouble, and in many, if not most cases, is likely to be unethical. Plus, pornography is not allowed on this site anyway.

What is really needed in the future, I think, is more commercial boat travel. Did you know that there is only one ocean liner still in service, the Queen Mary II across the Atlantic? Currently, the only way to get from the Americas to Eurasia-Africa without using planes is to either hitch a ride on a cargo ship, or to use a private boat like the sailboat she is taking. It's quite sad, really, as I very much prefer boats to planes myself.

My favourite phone brands are Fairphone, Purism, and Pine64. All of them have removable batteries, headphone jacks, and SD card slots in their phones. All of them allow one to install one's own OS. Both Purism and Pine64 sell Linux phones, and Fairphone sells fair trade phones which are also very modular and fair to the user. Purism's Librem 5 includes hardware kill switches and even removable modem and WiFi/Bluetooth cards. Both the Librem 5 and Fairphone are designed to last as long as possible, and the Pinephone probably is too. And the both Librem 5 and Pinephone even have open source schematics.

I also love my Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional2, as it is very high quality and has a UNIX keyboard layout. It is one of the electronic products which I think is most likely to last my entire lifetime.

Another open source project of note is the MNT Reform, which is probably the most repairable and open source laptop available today.

I also dream of getting a libre Talos Secure Workstation some day, and have for a very long time. It is open source hardware and powerful too, a very rare combination.

The only one I have personal experience with is my Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional2. For my 18th birthday, I got a Librem 5, but despite it being my 19th birthday today, it has still not arrived yet because of many delays pushing the Evergreen batch further back. They are making lots of progress though!

Edit: Vitamix blenders are also very high quality from what I hear and from my own experience. I have only heard praise for them, and after this side of my family got one, I have found it is amazingly high quality and capable indeed (it can even make vegan milk and heat up soup!). In my opinion it is one of the nicest things in this apartment, along with my keyboard.

Oh! And I almost forgot! Very old Dell monitors are also very good! My two Dell 1907FPVs with a copyright date on their manual of 2006 are some of the oldest things I own and still work perfectly. Looking at their manual, their quality control is astounding:

Dell-branded monitors undergo exhaustive testing for performance, reliability, durability and compatibility with Dell systems. Under our H.A.L.T (Highly Accelerated Life Cycle Testing) regimen, Dell engineers push our monitors well past specified tolerance limits for heat, cold, vibration, shocks and drops, to ensure that they can withstand real-world conditions.

They even drop-tested the desktop monitor! Wow!

I have no idea how their new monitors are, but their old monitors ubiquitous on Craigslist are great.

Same. Sometimes I feel like a change-afraid luddite when a new technology comes along that, like most current computer technology, is horrible, but then I remember how happy I am to switch to metric, learn Esperanto, use weird but fast user interfaces like tiling window managers/compositors (right now I use Sway), learn the command line (where I do most of my computing when I can), etc, and realise that my actual problem with it is that they are making bad changes instead of good ones. I am happy to change if the change brings me benefits in the long run instead of harm.

Speaking of suckless, I really like that software, but do wish it had better Wayland support so I could switch to it. st sounds like it could be pretty cool; my current terminal alacritty uses a ridiculous amount of memory for some reason, which I guess is fine since I have tons of RAM, but it's still pretty annoying for a terminal which is supposed to be simple.

…Actually, this is the first time I've really looked at the Suckless software other than dwm and dmenu (which I actually use in Sway). Farbfeld actually looks pretty interesting and I might use it for simple software I make like my WIP ray tracer that I prefer to use with simpler libraries rather than complex.

ii also seems like a pretty cool irc client. The way it uses files and relies on programs like echo for i/o somewhat reminds me of the recent extremely simple and fast binary-to-text (and text-to-binary) converters I made: https://github.com/happysmash27/bin2txt.

Ooh! I forgot slock was a suckless project! It is definitely my favourite display locker for X11, and I think it's a shame it doesn't support Wayland.

They seem to like C a lot, even writing games in C, and I am often the same. I do wonder if C would be the best choice for a highly modular block game which I want to write, though, but in general, if I am making a program, I will usually write it in C.

Well, I can still uninstall it on my Linux machine, or on Android or Mac, or any other non-Windows machine for that matter. So what is actually the case, is that people won't be able to uninstall its new Edge browser on Windows machines.

I'm pretty happy with it (as a user who is not new). I generally do not believe in censoring any content, but if the content has high potential to be illegal and doesn't contribute to discussion at all, I think it's better to delete it to avoid legal risk. I also think enforcement of the Pyramid of Debate is a good idea, as it keeps the site non-toxic while not censoring opinions entirely. Generally, I think the current, very limited rules are very good for the site, keeping it from going too badly while also not being too overbearing and bureaucratic.

Ah, a movement I can get behind![⸮](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony_punctuation?wprov=sfla1)

While we're at it, we need to drop the L and the B too! Lesbians and gays are hateful of pre-op trans people by excluding them from their sexuality!

Drop the T as well! Trans women and trans men reinforce the gender binary by insisting people must change their gender if they don't conform to gender stereotypes!

As for queer? Queer is hate speech because it was used as a pejorative in the past, and so should be eliminated, just like other words and symbols with bad past connotations, such as "master", "slave", "black", "white", and swastikas.

In the end, all that will be left will be a +, to symbolise that we, the non-binary pansexuals, are the Superior Beings who will rightfully rule the world.

(In case it wasn't clear from the irony mark, I am being heavily sarcastic here and do not unironically advocate for such exclusionary silliness).

Saidit No Longer Displays in My Google Search Results. Anyone Else? by [deleted] in SaidIt

IGNORE EVERY TERM THAT ISNT TRENDING

What do you mean by that?

I still get results for SaidIt and pirate sites in DuckDuckGo. It finds most of what I look for.

I would really like to be able to run my own instance of a search engine, though, that can crawl certain areas of the web like Reddit a bit more thoroughly, because occasionally I have a hard time finding certain obscure Reddit posts I remember.

Pornhub bought ads on /r/nofap, in violation of Reddit policy. Cruelly taunting addicts who were trying to quit. After a brief blackout, her account is active again. Of course Gawker Media punches down and ridicules the addicts, an act of bullying. by Chipit in whatever

That changes a lot. Reddit was pretty much a completely different site back then! I have removed my initial upvote from this post, because that is a pretty big detail to omit…

White trans lives matter? Breaking the brains of the SJW mob. by Chipit in memes

[–]happysmash27 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

All lives matter. Including black ones, and white ones too, and asian, and latin american, and LGBTQAI+, and non-human, and everyone else.

When I say "all lives matter", I really mean exactly what I say. The right will criticise me for being too left, but at the same time, much of the left will criticise me for being too right, because they think "all lives matter" is a "dog whistle" or whatever. Maybe it is for some people, but for me, it's not. When I say it, I mean it. All lives matter, and yours does too.

I really hate the political climate around this. I just want to accept everyone, especially the same people the left wants to accept. But… do you have to do it in such a divisive manner?? Just because we push for black rights, doesn't mean we must ignore all the others, and pushing for rights for everyone does not mean I want to ignore black rights either.

I'm mixed. I care about everyone. To the left and the right: Please stop the hatred. It doesn't help anyone at all =(´⦿ᨓ⦿`)= .

I am so shocked and horrified I literally shouted "WHAT‽‽‽‽‽" in real life!

Does anyone have a source for this? Is it really, truly real?? If so, I am truly horrified about this =(´O ᨓ O`)= !

I might actually consider taking to the streets with this if it is real. This is absolutely unacceptable.

What do you dislike about president Trump? by Wrang1er in AskSaidIt

[–]happysmash27 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

  1. Orange man bad. Trump hate is spammed so much that it is hard to not go along with it when I don't have many reasons not to.

  2. He lies a lot, seems kind of ignorant, and seems to be pretty impulsive. These are the reasons I hear a lot, and are therefore the second ones I think of. The biggest real reason I dislike him here, that is not as knee-jerk, is the impulsiveness/aggressiveness. I have worried he may start a war. Ignorance also is not good, though TBH I haven't actually seen much about how much he actually knows about foreign policy. He messed up a bit on COVID-19, I think, but I don't think the president should be the primary source for that anyway, and prefer more non-governmental solutions.

  3. Another more real reason I dislike him, not influenced so much by the endless propaganda and groupthink: He is too xenophobic. I like immigrants, and Trump does not.

Does Magnora have any proof of the banned subreddits here doing that, too?

You are right, that /u/Magnora7 really should have proof; I agree with this point.

Are you a moron? Honest question.

People usually don't get themselves tested for this, so I doubt /u/Zombi can actually answer.

You're a limp-wristed faggot leftist. I bet you're not even 18 year thinking you know it all, too. If you're over 18 then I'd be ashamed for your sake.

This is completely unfounded as well as extremely low on the pyramid. Are you trying to get banned, maybe as ammo against SaidIt?

Please stop name-calling and using such divisive language – it brings your post down on the pyramid. I think you can still make the same point with less divisive language:

You seem to be acting like Reddit admins often do, confusing the act of saying something you disagree with as going against the policy, which in this case is the pyramid of debate. You weren't even able to follow these rules yourself when I attempted to discuss this a week or two ago, and I feel that this greatly harms both your integrity and the integrity of SaidIt as a whole.

Hopefully that makes the same point, while being a bit higher on the pyramid?
