They can't report someone as dead unless they absolutely confirm it in Japan. That's why it started so low and was growing. Nothing fishy is going on.

I never understood why people say this on forums. Don't want to ruin the good vibes - it's just something I never understood personally. When I'm on an internet forum I view the other users in a purely detached way. It's just curious, that's all.

Myspace was great for a while... then facebook was cool for a bit... digg had it's time... reddit had so much potential... and youtube wasn't always a sellout for ad money... but between short-sighted profit-driven corporate stooges and asshole users, we just can't have nice things! by EndlessSunflowers in whatever

My biggest problem is that every time one of these big sites becomes popular, it kills all of the little hobbyist forums. Before reddit, there used to be dozens of forums that I would visit. Now they are all practically abandoned. Which would have been fine, but now reddit starts censoring certain subs randomly, and there is no place to find the communities I used to go to.

What's the Newspeak word for "gimp" or "cripple"? by sawboss in AskSaidIt

I think that "special needs" is the most appropriate. I'm annoyed too with the constant shuffling of phrases for political correctness, but definitely don't call people "gimps" or "cripples." There's no need to be rude.

Is it too late to fend off the invasion of SaidIt by revolutionary Communists and their Fascist allies? If not, what can be done? by sawboss in AskSaidIt

This is the problem with any reddit alternative. I am a huge proponent for free speech, but unfortunately every alternative reddit site (voat, saidit) just becomes over-run with alt-right, holocaust deniers, and pizzagate conspiracy theorists. I really don't know a good solution. If you aren't one of those three, however, I think that you should stand firm. We can't let saidit get taken over like voat did.

You know - when I look back at human history, it's actually quite tragic. What is technology but trying to escape the chains of nature? But then nature whips us back into her bitter enslavement, reminding us that we never really escape.

Cartel: chest flayed open, still-beating heart removed and shown to man as he dies by High_and_Lonesome in WatchPeopleDie

I'm afraid that we're entering a period of human history where everything is way too "sanitized." We need to be exposed to the horrors of the world, not cowardly try to hide and deny them.

The state of desktop software seems to get sadder and sadder, as they merge into some super dumbed-down "mobile-desktop" merged experience. Some days I regret even majoring in CS.

Sounds like the story of all of software development these days. People keep reinventing the wheel - and their new one isn't even as good as the old one. I'm sick of having to fix the same problems over and over and over again, because no one listens.
