For me, more diversity simply means more freedom and less restriction due to outdated social norms.

"Outdated social norms" like homosexuality?

The porn industry is literaly one of the most astroturfed things there is, as only a few companies own basically the entire market. This means that hey can push whatever shit they want regardless of actual demand.

My theory on all that: It seems that many (most?) mainstream gay porn performers do their token FTM scene. Get it in the books. Check it off the list. And then get back to business as usual. These are people who, at the end of the day, have to treat sex from a professional standpoint and work with scenarios or partners they aren't always legitimately enthused about. Because it's what they're paid to do. You pop the pill and think of England. And provide whatever soundbites are needed to market it.

"Tell me your gay guilty pleasure!"

Most of them seem so... PG. I'm just thinking through my gay friends and if quizzed what their "gay guilty pleasure" is, it would skew way more carnal and explicit. And involve actual sexual activity with guys, not just distanced or virtual experiences. Scoping out guys just seems like baseline behavior. I dunno, maybe I'm stereotyping gay guys as sluttier than we are, but this list reads to me like sexually-inexperienced people.

Feelings about large age gaps in same sex relationships by lovelyspearmint in LGBDropTheT

[–]fr_bandersnatch 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I was in a 15 year gap relationship for 9 years, he was 40 and I was 25 when we met. It started as a purely physical thing, then grew legs. I'm a stick in the mud, too old and serious for my age. He was immature for his. So it worked. I think we were both occasionally insecure about the age gap publicly, especially when we were mistaken for father & son. He was married previously to a woman and had kids, so my being mistaken for his son creeped him out whereas most gay guys it would just let it roll off their backs.

We lived in a rural, politically very conservative area. People here won't harass you for being gay, it's sort of a live-and-let-live situation though you did catch people staring sometimes, trying to figure out what the story was. Over the years it's become even more of a non-issue. But the age gap was the lesser of the elephants they had to pretend not to notice. Without our being gay overshadowing it, I can see an age gap being noticed or commented on more. If you've already transgressed the sexuality boundary, folks won't think twice about acceptable age gaps.

It's... fine? Puzzling? It seems like there was an opportunity to provide numerous citations to examples of clear sex differences and their implications, but none have been provided. Is that intentional? This feels like the opening move of a chess game, scooting a pawn two spaces forward. Is this the start of the long game? Make the assertion and let them provide the first counter-evidence?

Noticed immediately here too. For what it's worth, the character has like 7 minutes total screen time in the entire series. They aren't portrayed in particularly positive or negative light. For me, I wonder if it was an intentional casting choice since the character had this "uncanny valley" air which was sort of amplified by being the religion teacher (I'm recalling the hymn sessions with that baritone voice). Amplifying the bizarreness and awkwardness of the orphanage? Part of me thinks this was tongue in cheek casting.

Is "sexual preference" offensive (to you) by filbs111 in LGBDropTheT

[–]fr_bandersnatch 25 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 0 fun26 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"Preference" implies the liking of one alternative over one or more other alternatives. The subject is amenable to all options but with a liking of some over others. For those of us who are homosexual, one sex is amenable and the other is not. There is only one choice, one orientation: our own sex or nothing. I can choose to transgress my orientation; living in the rural US, there's no shortage of miserable closeted gay men in heterosexual marriages, forced there by their homophobic situations or upbringings. My father was left-handed but the nuns beat right-handed handwriting into him. In both these cases, behavior is under duress and does not reflect the subject's true orientation.

"Sexual preference" can only truly apply to bisexuals as they are sexually amenable to both males and females.

He predicted the excesses of gender affirming treatment — like the 1990s “enthusiasm” over repressed memory and multiple personality — would be reined in by the courts, not by the psychiatric profession.

So I was very young in the 90's. Could someone clue me in on what went down with repressed memory & multiple personality diagnoses? I'm assuming these were... over-diagnosed fads? Was there blow-back over them at some point? Someone finally observed that the emperor had no clothes? Want's the history?

See that's the thing then: The anonymous posting is a double-edged sword. On one hand, I appreciate the candidness it allows with none of the doxxing typical of reddit, twitter, etc. But on the other hand, when every single is by "anonymous", you can't get a true feel for demographics or consensus. Like I said, I think you can play games with the block feature and deduce which posts go together, but that's too much work for me. It's fine, they shouldn't change the format but the site does have a certain learning curve.

I did notice the T thread started today has been vanished. Don't know which side crossed a line.

Yeah, I'm over there too. Seems the audience is split maybe 50-50, which is honestly an encouraging ratio in this day & age. A number of regular posters are willing to call out the homophobia of TRA and have been providing receipts. Still no shortage of quislings, but the message is at least getting out there. Waiting for the site to get brigaded or discovered & coerced into rightthink.

The interface confuses the heck out of me. Anonymous posting is possible and widely-used, so it's difficult/inefficient to respond directly to someone or synthesize their arguments over time. I know there's a block function that some people have used to piece together post histories from anonymous posters. Too much work for me. And the moderation is a complete mystery. Strange site, but I'm happy it's there.

Except I resent being lumped in with the right. I believe boundaries, push-back, and legitimate questioning of pro-TRA assertions are in order and are the duty of both sides of the aisle. I'm also believe trans people should not be subject to violence, harassment, discrimination, etc. I respect people's requested names and pronouns. I would classify myself as a liberal, the right does not align with my views. I resent being painted as part of the right because my beliefs on the trending views on biology, gender, single-sex spaces, and child development are not in step with TRA. Especially when the homophobic, conversion-therapy-esque voices within TRA which are very much in the vein of the religious right upbringing I escaped are very present.
