It’s good to take a step back from the internet from time to time because the insanity of the trans movement is so extreme online and they infiltrate every space they can. I will never for the life of me understand why society continues to cater to the whims of trans people and encourage all of their absurd navel-gazing. Communities like this and Gender Critical have kept me sane. The TQ+ nonsense can be so infuriating, so aggravating, so exhausting just to listen to, it really brings me back down to Earth to talk to other gay and bisexual people who feel the same way. Not only that, but it solidifies how I feel, and that I am not alone in those feelings. I know this sounds a little corny, but it feels like when I was a teenager and came out found the gay community, and how good it felt to be around “my people”. I only wish is to find or build a similar LGB community where I live so I could connect with locals who feel the same. I think there are many more of us than the TRA’s like to think, and unlike them, we’re secure and firm in our identities. I was in my early teens twenty years ago, but came out around that time and I helped start the first LGB group at my Florida high school. There was actually a pretty decent scene where I lived, and I used to love going to gay coffeehouses and then bars. It was hard but wonderful, and all of that activism and having a good support system really helped me feel secure and happy in my sexuality. And feminism was always a part of the LGB community too, especially with lesbians.

It feels like the community is completely different now. I think about going to Pride because we have a pretty substantial parade, but it makes me incredibly nervous to think about. It used to make me excited to get involved in the LGB community. Now it just puts my stomach in knots because I know it’s probably completely overrun with trans people and their handmaidens, and weird paraphiliac straight people who like to walk each other on dog leashes and shit. I really don’t have the energy to argue with people like that, but I know I can’t keep my big mouth shut either, so I think it’s better just not to go. I don’t know. I have a lot of conflicted feelings with the modern gay movement. I wish that the LGB Alliance was big here. I would go to and help out any event by them in a heartbeat.

Exactly. That’s about one-fourth of the actual current murder rate: there were 16,214 recorded homicides in the United States in 2018 (five per 100,000) and 17,294 in 2017. While LGBT advocates may be correct that there is some under-reporting of the transgender murder rate because not all trans individuals are “out,” the fact is that the murder rate for trans people would have to increase by 300-400 per cent to match the murder rate for the general population.

The absence of a homicide “epidemic” for transgender people becomes even more apparent when we compare trans murder totals not merely to the population overall, but to specific high-mortality groups within it. The most vulnerable of these is my own group, African Americans. According to the FBI, of the 14,123 murders in 2018 in which the original police agency to investigate provided demographic information about the victim, 6,088 involved a white victim and 7,407 involved a black victim. Given that blacks make up only 12-13 per cent of the American population, we can see that the black murder rate—which I calculate at one murder per 5,298 persons, or 18.88 per 100,000—is roughly six times the Caucasian rate and almost 13 times the allegedly “epidemic” transgender murder rate.

I think this is one of the most serious problems with all this trans medical intervention. Not only is there minimal critical information about non medical intervention, but little unbiased investigation to whether medical intervention works in the first place, especially with children and teenagers. Especially if you want to demand this right to do this to them. It seems like any kind of meaningful, critical attempts to look into this are actively suppressed and ignored by the scientific and academic communities, which is even more unsettling. You have to have fact-based evidence to justify such radical, elective surgeries and medications for adults, let alone children.

I also think the stories of detransitions are incredibly important and they absolutely deserve just as much coverage as trans people do. The fact that there is an aggressive attempt to silence and discredit detransitions is all the more reason their stories should be shared.

Hearing younger gay and bisexual people refer to themselves as ‘queer’ or throw the word around so casually will probably always leave a bad taste in my mouth, but I understand the idea behind reclaiming slurs. I don’t like it and I don’t agree with it, and I don’t ever want to be referred to as “queer”, but if some gay people find it empowering, then so be it. What makes me feverishly angry though is hearing fucking straight people using that word without the slightest hesitation. Especially when these are the same straight people who used to hurl that word at me and my gay friends at every chance they got, who enunciated each letter with the kind of aggressive toxicity that makes you naturally freeze up with fear, who would spit that word into the air while they threw bottles at us, beat us, groped us, threatened us for simply existing. I will never accept that shit, and I think it’s a tragedy that straight people ever get to say that word, regardless of intent.

The other problem I have is that “queer” doesn’t mean what it used to. It used to only refer to gay and lesbian people; when you said “queer”, you know what it meant. Now it’s just nonsense. It means anything and everything, supposedly, and applies to people who aren’t gay, and to a host of sexualities invented by bored people on the internet who want to feel special. I don’t think LGB studies/theory should be called “Queer Theory” or whatever, either. Some women have reclaimed the word “bitch”, but we don’t call women’s studies “Bitch Studies”.
