Thanks for your reply.

I believe he writes in a brutal and savage form, but also that he is honest.

I think he dragged down only the form and tone, but not the ideas. I believe he was trying to expose "shills" which are corporate or gov actors undermining the discourse; I think "shill" was a bad use of the word; he had no trouble with anyone promoting their own work (actual shills).

This, and because the ban was sudden, is why I think you should give him another chance. Of course, I will still respect your decision since it's your site, and have explained why you banned him.

The prospect of a shadow mute/ban is chilling to me. Thanks for the explanation!

He can't run forever. The police outnumbers and outspends him, and documents are shared across the police force. Also, he'd be missing a car now.

DUI has lawful punishments, and being shot dead is not one of them.

To me it looks like the cop wanted him dead rather than escaped with a taser on foot while drunk.

The cop got tired of the struggle and ended it - though they could have traced him later from documents.

It's a pretty dumb move to tase a cop. But the punishment should fit the crime, and cops should not do the punishing.

Still waiting for that second book sale lol

Sorry to hear that :(

I want to give you some advice.

First of all, your websites should feature prominent links to the place to buy books. Perhaps something like: "Want to support my work? Buy a book of mine here." below the Orwell quote, in a visible rectangle (check out "call-to-action buttons"). A little design goes a long way.

The current links in "NEWS FLASH:" are quite low on the page, and look like regular text part of the article.

Also, I'd shorten the profile here to, say, 50 words, so the books are visible without needing to scroll down.

Second, perhaps look into more avenues of advertisement where your target audience might be around:

  • Reddit (perhaps they still want your money in spite of banning you?)
  • 4chan, 8kun (formerly 8chan)
  • physical ads: newspaper/classifieds, flyers - perhaps near train stations (people who use trains like privacy).
  • DuckDuckGo: https://help.duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/company/advertising-and-affiliates/
  • Anonymous Ads
  • FB, Google (if you want to feed the beasts, and if you get ROI? but I doubt your target audience looks at oligopoly ads).

I'd invest a book's worth of cost (or some other small amount of your choice at first), and see what they bring. Don't keep investing if they bring no visits.

all advertising is just propaganda

Yes it is, but some people might be actively looking to spend money for something, but not sure what. If the advert is well-targeted, and if it's respectful to the user, then the user might like the recommendation.

I usually block all third-party requests on a website for privacy reasons, but if I like the website, I might let ads through to both support the site, and perhaps see something interesting.

Edit: lists require an empty line before them.

my "live human" test

You should use the "Friend" tool.

Whenever I suspect an account could be "really" human, and if they post content I am interested in, I go to their account, and click the green "+friend" button under their account name.

Later, I browse using the "Friends" meta-sub. f they post content that I enjoy, I keep them there. Browsing through there is a breath of fresh air.

If they post irrelevant/un-actionable/waste-of-time/garbage/spam content, they get the boot.

So far I have two such "friends". One is you, which I found in spite of the noise on this site. Another is a guy you engaged in conversation with, which I saw on the Friends -> Comments tab.

I want to thank you for your true content freely available on your website. I will donate to you as soon as I get an income again (but don't hold your breath - I live in a second world country and am incredibly lazy, on top of the current economy). I will promote you via word-of-mouth to my friends, though.

P.S. Instead of "shill", I think "actor" is a better term, for the way you use it. - they play a role different from their genuine self - they use scripts - they distract the masses using fantasies of warped ideals - they are paid to act many times, though not always

Shills, at least according to Urban Dictionary, try to sell something. This may be the case when, say, Big Tech tries to hide its surveillance (PR), but not when the covert agent's goal is to sow discord or drown out communities through spam/garbage content.

[–]danuker 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I guess different folks care about different aspects of a conversation.

Some people take offense when you correct their spelling, others embrace that.

To me, it is very vague what "toxic" means. The Wiki article you linked talks about counterproductive infighting - well, if you're trying to get to the truth, the pyramid is a stab at showing the way towards finding truth.

Ethics and professional conduct - how offensive is too offensive for a joke? do we all have to act like professionals? do we have to refrain from insults? am I not allowed to say person X's argument is dumb? How about person X being dumb themselves?

Even using the wrong gender offends some people. Others get offended from being asked to use a specific gender.

Many people have many definitions - some might be seeking emotional comfort, or politeness, or a specific form or tone.

I am afraid that, bar concrete examples of what bothers you, I can't find a community for you. But it might be that there are none that satisfy your definition of a "non-toxic" community.

[–]danuker 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I suspect the meaning of "life" and "pursuit of happiness" have a relative value. If there were a perfectly safe vaccine, what do you think of the following interpretations, in this context?

  • Life: the right not to be killed by viruses from other people
  • Pursuit of happiness: the right to move about freely, unvaccinated

As far as I can see, it is a question of degree. If a virus meant certain death, and people went about spreading it, it would be tantamount to murder. But if it's "little risk", then the right to move about prevails.

Is my view different from yours? (don't expect a reply from me soon; will go to sleep).

Calories per dollar: the just-drink-vegetable-oil diet. I think the olive oil on that website is unrealistically expensive; real life canola or sunflower oil is way cheaper per calorie.

But I wouldn't find that very healthy. Your body can run on empty calories, but it will accumulate inflammation and lose antioxidants.

Thankfully, the site also points out to "Nutrient Per Dollar" - where it shows you where to get vitamins and minerals. Props for that!

Suppose vaccines prevent you from killing anyone while living a normal life. In this case I agree with mr. Zionist lawyer.

Do you want to live a normal life? Go to the supermarket? Cinema? Park?

The real problem is when vaccines misfire. Vaccines can kill.

What should an acceptable failure rate be? 10 lives saved to one killed?

Another problem is how much the vaccines cost. How much should a state pay the vaccine company for saving a life?

I feel you.

Here's a clue: the pyramid of debate is not very enforced. It's very few mods against a sea of content.

I have thought of quitting Saidit and all other "mass" chat tools because of people who spread misinformation with the sole purpose of destroying your time - say, being hard to debunk, but of no consequence or applicability to the real world.

A saidittor pointed out these might be covert ops trying hard to undermine inconvenient organizations.

Still, there is the Friends tool. If you find a respectful or enjoyable person, friend them. If you find they waste your time or that their behavior changed (account sold, bait & switch, etc), unfriend them.

Then, instead of browsing the main site, browse the Friends edition.

I can get my kicks like this, and I still lurk for this reason. Hope you find it useful.

Also, magnora7 says you should report people who disrespect the pyramid - they definitely help. But I have seen not much consequence, when I reported lots of posts one day. So, that is why I use the "Friends" whitelist instead of the reporting blacklist.

A gallon of roughly jet fuel (gasoline) (1) can drive roughly a ton of metal (your car) roughly 30 miles (2).

2 WTCs weighed roughly 1M tons (3). So, the equivalent energy of one gallon would move them at most a millionth of a car's MPG, or 30 / 1M = 3*10-5 miles, or about 2 inches.

But of course, a "jet crashing into a building" is not a very efficient automobile. So, lots of that energy ends up as heat instead of just motion - which is why you need 10k gallons instead of just one. Heat which might, say, melt steel beams.

TL;DR: Inconclusive. I won't waste any more time on this.

Let me recap.

Italy

I got the 54% higher risk of death due to COVID, compared to regular death by dividing COVID deaths in a day by typical daily deaths.

Question 1 for you. Do you not agree that the risk of death in Italy was 54% higher in that 24-hour period?

World Yesterday

I updated to the newest complete data. Deaths due to COVID yesterday: 5229 as per here Deaths in general yesterday: 55.95 million as per here divided by 365.25 = 153182.

5229/153182 = 3.4%

Question 2 for you. Is this not the same computation as above, but for the world instead of Italy?

Question 3. Was this what you wanted to know?

government is verifiably abusive, exploitative, and deceitful.

I agree in general. But I don't see what we are being scammed out of, by staying at home in this circumstance.

  • A future? Government depends on our future, through work and taxes.
  • Confidence in government, because it pointlessly keeps us home while even doubling hospitals is not enough? Government depends on confidence.
  • Money, because they get an excuse to print more money and devalue ours? They don't need an excuse, they just print it.

https://saidit.net/s/Coronavirus/comments/3pzw/rona_updates_experts_disagree_diving_into_the/

This video's description has actual links to actual experts that are disagreeing. Props for that. For this reason, I will review some.

Links 1-4 are about 2008's overwhelmed hospitals, which I do not dispute.

Link 5:

Hendrik Streeck: No proof coronavirus can be spread while shopping, says leading German virologist

He said he was not calling for the end to social distancing but there remained unknowns about the virus that may throw current guidance into doubt.

So much for disagreeing.

Link 6:

This one has a collection of experts and a huge tracking token which I stripped off.

Dr Sucharit Bhakdi: "We are afraid that 1 million infections with the new virus will lead to 30 deaths per day over the next 100 days. But we do not realise that 20, 30, 40 or 100 patients positive for normal coronaviruses are already dying every day."

Germany's deaths have surpassed 100 per day since March 31st.

Dr Wolfgang Wodarg - <<We should be asking questions like “How did you find out this virus was dangerous?”, “How was it before?”, “Didn’t we have the same thing last year?”, “Is it even something new?”>>

On his website, his explanation for Italy (English translation) is based on mortality rate with old data. He prefers herd immunity, which the UK is also implementing, and the cases overwhelmed the hospitals.

Jackpot

This actually made me think. How long will it take indeed? How fast can the medical system grow? What will the treatment capacity be? These are all questions unanswered by the authorities.

Then I found this Guardian article.

Its mortality rate is higher, there is little evidence that it is seasonal, and it poses a far greater threat to the NHS. Without a programme of community surveillance and contact tracing, the virus will continue to spread. Britain will be subject to routine flare-ups and repeated lockdowns.

The government and its advisers are now committed to their strategy of delaying the spread of coronavirus, which they hope will eventually lead to herd immunity.

Seems they gave up, and are merely using the lockdown as a last-ditch effort. They lost the fight with the virus. It will get to everyone; the only difference is slightly more people will get treatment. Slightly, because they can't keep the lockdown forever.

You as my pen pal

I thank you for persisting. Albeit you have not had been very tactful in this debate and did not address my concerns directly, I have been able to find what I was looking for in links of your links.

While I appreciate your critical view of government, I have only witnessed outright malevolence in very few places.

I stand with my belief that, at least in the topic of handling the outbreak, the government is merely inept and/or stupid as per your comment.

What is your argument here? Quarantining for a disease does not betray people who died for political freedom.

bailout scam, illegal surveillance

You are correct here. I retract my claim about the state doing its duty in general. But in these cases, I can find motives for the state: they gain money or power over you. What do they gain from me sitting at home?

I start from skepticism regarding all government and corporate media

Ideally, I would have a parallel system of my own, through which I could check anything. Absent that, I have to rely on other people.

The government's story lines up better with the reality I percieve. Sure, there have been discrepancies (i.e. masks are not useful, then gov buys enough, then masks are useful again), but there is nowhere near as much bullshit as alternative media, whose interest is to make money off sensationalism, and do not stand up to even the weakest of inquiries.

To clarify my angle: Big Brother is the state.

The state's duty is, in theory, to ensure rights of citizens.

Among other rights, people vulnerable to COVID have the right to live. But people less vulnerable will spread the virus.

I personally believe the state response is proportional to the danger.

Do you have arguments showing otherwise?

based off of one country

Italy took no measures, but had among the best public health networks of any country (their life expectancy is very high). It is not arbitrary, because it shows what happens when you have no quarantine, though you have good hospitals.

What's to prevent what happened in Italy from happening elsewhere?

You keep saying "my estimate" or "I assume"

I am showing you how I come to my conclusions. You are not, you are just grasping at straws in a block of text of mile-long sentences. Please delimit your ideas with a double-newline at least.

Idk you tell me.

I am saying the risk of death of COVID divided by the risk of death by other causes is the same as the mortality of COVID divided by the mortality of other causes.

You were accusing me of "Trying to change the window to be about mortality rate". That is why I ask you, what did I "change" here - because I did not change anything.

What is the "risk of dying" percentage when taking in to account other countries, not just italy?

I said it already, here, about the world data:

So, right now, about (100 * A. / B. ) 3.5% of deaths are COVID deaths.

While 3.5% is not a lot, it's more than many other diseases, and it grew exponentially.
